I remember when Joker was came out in October 2019. Warner Bros leading up to its release were so worried it was going to influence copycat violence and as a result nearly pulled it from their schedule. Who would have known the influence it ended up having on it's audience was more fun and peaceful - everyone having watched it just want to go visit and dance on the steps in New York instead!

I knew going in this wasn't a Blockbuster, we have what I call ''The Avengers/Blockbuster'' crowd in the showing though, when they came out you could tell they couldn't believe what they have just gone and seen. A film about male mental health essential.

I left thinking that I didn't see a movie about the Joker I saw a movie about a man boy who wears make up and wants to be femous and loved by everyone. That's not the Joker I had in mind. Like you said the movie inspired people to dress up and dance. Again not the Joker I had in mind lol

@@orinorio1yeah, it’s really crass when you think about how they came up with the idea. Essentially they made a movie with zero respect for the source material, which would be fine on its own, but the “original” stuff they brought to it was all lifted from way better movies. Aside from Phoenix’s performance, it’s just an incredibly hollow experience from start to finish. It isn’t truly the Joker and isn’t truly a well thought-out or original idea either. It’s just a clever cash-grab honestly.
@orinorio15 ай бұрын
@@STRANGEANATOMYBAND I think Todd wrote a movie about a guy with mental issues. It was never about DC or anything to do with a comic book or the Joker. The studios made it about that as it would make money like you said playing of the Joker name. Also felt it was a movie all about QP. His movie to show how over the top he can be. Was so he can get an Oscer.

The Joker was never supposed to be sympathized with, or understood. Point of fact, he is antithetical to understanding, reason and empathy. That's why his multiple backstories in the comics work so well. Todd Philips exploited a cultural phenomenon, only to then blatantly crib someone else's work. So, I've never seen Joker as culturally impactful as the fans of the film have. I WISH Scorsese directed Joker, because he wouldn't have ripped off his own work, and made something more original. Joker (2019) is about as original as "AI generated media", in that it's not that original at all. Art is about courage and challenges, and I see no courage or challenge in stealing other people's work. Without the gravity of Scorsese prior work, you'd just be left with more bro-centric films like the Hangover or Road Trip: movies that lack any real artistic value outside of shock value & memes. Romanticizing mental illness & trauma as a justification for violence and perpetuated trauma is always a lame & predictable "edge lord" move. It's juvenile, as much as it is harmful to those of us who actually have metal health issues & trauma. Then again, we're talking about the person who asked John Wayne Gacy personally to create a movie poster for him just for the controversy and "edginess". He's about as edgy as a Hot Topic sales rack.

I have a love hate relationship with SS and Leto's Joker. Honestly i really liked the modernized take on the gangster idea of joker instead of using 1920s mobster inspiration, 90s and 00s SoCal gang culture. His look substantially grew on me. But his presence in the film, the writing, and conflict reports of his antics just kills the enthusiasm. Leto can do some great work when he's motivated and focused by the script and edit but SS lacked those. First Im hearing about a Joker+Harley follow up to BOP and that legit sounds interesting if the DCEU wasnt already in full blown meltdown by that point

In regards to the scars- I would not have minded if they had them in the end sequence and the sequel, like when he was hit in the police car and raised up and idolized, that would be when his face is cut up from the accident or intentionally as he spreads the blood anyway in the final cut. Perfect symbolism when everyone cheers and he permanently is transforming himself
