I can't believe Kevin Smith took the horrible, stupid ideas that the producer had and churned out a screenplay that actually sounds pretty awesome. Seriously, I would've loved to see the movie come into fruition, it sounds like bonkers 90s fun.

No, Wesley Strick & Tim Burton's take on Superman was much better than Smith's and anything that has came since (until Gunn's movie anyway). In the comics, Superman didn't even know he was an alien until many years into his Superman career, long into his adulthood, and when he found out, it meant nothing to him beyond the explanation for his abilities. That's how Siegel & Shuster did it. Being an alien is just the excuse for the powers, nothing else. Everything else comes from being Clark Kent, it is Clark Kent that creates not just the Superman persona, costume, S symbol, and morality, but he also creates the mild mannered reporter disguise. Clark with superpowers is the real guy and he creates both the Superman persona & mild mannered reporter disguise. Strick got this absolutely right.

May I say I completely disagree, Burton is an Emo freak who would've Gothified Superman, painted his nails black and have him smoking pot. Also, Nic Cage, and I did like him in The Weatherman, but he is extremely ugly, extremely skinny and extremely bald, to play Clark Kent, a handsome, jacked alphamale from Kansas, did I mention Nic Cage is ugly? You know while I'm a bit mixed on whether this Film would of be any good I think the idea of K, the little robotic teddy bear that Clark's biological parents send to earth with Him , is actually really good. It would of given Clark something hinting to His Kryptonian origin without spelling it out clearly for Him and I like how K would be able to morph, eventually becoming the suit Superman wears upon being brought back. Great concept I'd like to see another writer use.

Well joker shot down his bat plane and Vicki came to see if Batman was alive. As a 40 yo I never understood why I stopped/never started watching big universe superhero movies after the 90’s. I love superheroes and the comic created universes. Really enjoy the escape into brutal realities where the disparity of power includes natural, or artificial, abilities. I’ve found myself listening to audiobooks consistently for the past 15 years (yes pre audible and torrented to which I feel guilty). Also, not a huge Cage fan but damnit he really would have portrayed an outworlder so well. Also, while not a fan (due to the nat. treasure franchise) dude commits. Been watching a few of the yt uploads recently and realizing how much my developmental teen years were pushed away from superheroes. I knew, from my older brothers and my own reading, what superheroes were. Flawed, destructive, brutal, petulant and f’ing awesome. The current superheroes are so darn flat. Not hating, just can’t enjoy the characters currently in the largely accepted universes everyone watches today. There are a few dirty pleasures, so feel free to criticize lol. First season of Heroes, a couple Wolverine movies, plenty of anime/cartoons that are comic or manga adherent, the Boys, the one with the blue dude and the Rorschach mask, Edward Norton as hulk (possibly should be ashamed of that one:), smallville first 2 seasons, Deadpool (spl?) makes me laugh, and I’m sure several others. Anyway, loved the video, appreciate the history, and thanks and all that. Cheers.

It sounds like Kevin Smith's script was pretty awesome as it was. That was the reason Nic Cage wanted to do the movie in the first place, and since he was responsible for bringing in Tim Burton, I don't know why he would have let Burton fire Smith and then hire the guy who helped him to ruin "Batman Returns". I don't understand why people keep thinking that Tim Burton would make a good comic book superhero movie director. As much as people complain about Peters, it sounds like his ideas for the first Batman movie were some of the best scenes in the film. The iconic alley sword fight and the gothic cathedral at the end of the movie were things that I remember most (aside from Nicholson's Joker performance).

Tyler hoechlin plays Clark Kent beautifully. He not only has the duo personality but it seems so genuine because it’s not just black and white. His Clark is nerdy but also has scenes standing up for himself and family almost scary like. And his Superman is everything you’d think superman is, strong but caring. Honestly my favorite rendition on supes.

For me Christopher and Henry are the gold standards. Tyler doesn’t have the whole superman look. Something about his face and body that doesn’t give me that vibe. He definitely doesn’t have Henry’s sculpted body and face lol but I don’t know why I like him as TV superman. He is very cute and charming but he can be scary too. And he is a very good actor. I stopped watching the show cause it got depressing and he doesn’t have that many scenes as Superman 😢 prior seasons he had a lot to do but now is sidelined

man i really want to see nic cage as superman, even now. after the flash had him battling that giant spider, make that into a full movie please. some of the original ideas they had in 98 sounded badass and some (the idiot producer had) sounded horrible, just take the best ideas of them and i'm sure that producer isn't around anymore, they can make that movie now, nic cage even named one of his sons Kal-El and had a million dollar comic book collection, he has always wanted to play superman as of now he has voiced superman in teen titans go movie (he was only in it for about a minute and his flash cameo which lasted for about a minute), give us the whole nic cage superman movie please it will be awesome for sure.

I've said for years the WB should still make the movie, but as a one-off animated version through their DC Direct-to-Dvd animation studio. They could still animate Superman to resemble Nic Cage and get him to voice him. They'd not only be making a "What could have been" story, that fans having been talking about since it was first conceived, a reality, but theyd be saving tons of money as well, as the budget would be FAR less than when it was going to be a live-action film. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone at WB Discovery ends up having this brilliant idea and making it happen.

Thank you for the video. Now I know why - Creative differences DIALED TO 11🔥🚒 Goodness My take on this: I'm definitely happy they kept the blue suit on, not the couderoy top with basketball shorts and flaming boots 🤕 On Superman? Even Smallville did better than that. I'd also pick Kevin Smith's script. To avoid the potential CGI problem, braniac could've had a mech suit that's similar to the one I've seen in this video, but with his own "sleek" look. If they really wanted a spider, give Braniac's mech suit retractable tentacles, Doc Oct style. If you dont see it, picture Braniac from Injustice 2 game

I don't know what it is...anytime I get a craving to revisit 'what happened' to Superman Lives, the story of everything that happened and the plot actually stimulates my brain and fascinates me all over again. I think there may have been some 'wtf is this' in the movie, but it probably would have been entertaining and certainly welcomed.

You mention that this all sounds great for a cartoon which makes me always ask, why dont they make an animated film based on this script under the DCAU banner? What Reeve did to differentiante Clark and Superman was his idea. Classic Superman, the Superman i first grew up on reruns of the Fleischer cartoons he was a mild manner reporter. Henry was just Clark/Kal only even as "Superman"

I think 1 reason the modern generation identifies so much more with Batman than Superman is the lack of modern 'classic' Superman films. I mean think about it, 1987 Superman ends, 1989 Batman begins, it basically replaced Superman! How many truly successful films has Batman had on his own since then? 6? How many has Superman had on his own since then? ONE! LITERALLY ONE! And One terrible one, plus one shared with Batman that I'm not counting. Batman of course had the same shared film and then one terrible one as well. So, yeah. Superman is just an obsolete Superhero.

I was actually interested in Tim Burton’s Superman film back then and intrigued on Nick’s role. Was up to date thanks to SciFi and E! Channel and even some magazines until it was mysterious disappeared from the news. I still think they should do Superman Lives with the help of technology. It is 100% possible, but the problem is that folks nowadays made a cheap looking CGI on a highest budget, whereas freelancers and non-profit folks were able to pull it off. That is just sad. If I have all the time in the world, I would want to learn more about Blender and Unreal Engine and even taking advantage on the A.I such as images and chats just to bring it to life. Right now, I’m learning how to make a donut from Blender. A super slow start, but I guess it got to start from somewhere. At least someone had made an initiative to make a version of Superman Lives like this animation found here. While it is nice that Nick’s Superman cameo was in The Flash, the CGI was piss poor at best. As if the budget for the CGI was that of poor cheap labor and the rest of the money on drugs. I have seen superior special effects in Zack Snyder’s Justice League than that happy versions of The Flash and 2017 Josstice League.

3:14 isn't Warren Beatty's character in the movie *Shampoo* based on John Peters? 3:52 those are like the best parts of the movie! you should look up Kevin Smith's script. it's a pretty good read, but it is a good thing it wasn't made. It has been a while, but I specifically remember a scene early in the movie where Superman grabs Lex Luthor by the throat, flies him up an elevator shaft and threatens to drop him. It's like Kevin got Superman and Batman mixed up.
