Kiing great content! The Xeon are also my go to for my cpu rigs cost a ton less to build and if you want to run 4 GPUs at full x16 speeds you can run dual Xeon or if you want to save on electric you can run a single Xeon Gold 6138 they got 48 3.0 lanes so 3 full x16 and they only cost like $40 .. so many options.

Take note that Faster PCI-E 4.0 or 5.0 will actually earn more money than PCI-E 3.0 16x/8x for 4090's. I Found a consumer grade X570 board that allows PCI-E 4.0 at x8 speed for 3 GPUs.

Do I need a Thread Ripper or Xeon if I'm running on a single GPU? Does the AI workload benefits from several cores, or this is only needed if I have more than one GPU for the PCI Lanes?

Hi Kiing of content, I just noticed that the bandwidth of an 4x pcie gen 4.0 is exactly the same as the bandwidth of a 8x pcie gen 3.0 ( both are 7.877 GB/s) . Wouldn't be better to run 2 cards in a newer platform like a x570 instead of the LGA 2011. What do you think ?? Of course considering only 2 cards. For more than than 2 cards ryzens pcie lanes wouldnt be enough.

I think pcie bus size doubles each generation. Therefore x16 gen3 lane is the same speed as x4 gen5 lane.

None of today's GPUs link at gen 5, so at most you would be talking about x8 gen 4 on current cards.

@@TheCryptoMiner Yes but the price is hard to beat, you can get an entire prebuilt E5-2690 workstation for around $300 for a single CPU or around $500 for dual CPU US, where you can just swap the GPU and go.

Don't go for Xeon V3 any mainboard that can run v3 can also run the more efficient v4 Xeon and they use the same memory

Well my build has two Xeons E5 2699 v3, two RTX3090, 72TB HDD, 8TB SSD, 256GB RAM

But I do have an issue with my mainboard. One of the cards is running x16 3.0, the other card x16 1.1. The two GPUs are both connected to CPU1. I have to find a MB without those issues.

Have you been able to measure the watts it's pulling when in use? I'm guessing it'll be wide open.

@@kreak403 No. I will try it with a MB where one GPU connects to CPU1 and the other to CPU2. i guess it will work than. I thought because of the two CPU on the bord it would be like that. MIstake on my side.
