The word “heavy” in the heavy metal umbrella has 2 meanings: the first being the sound, instrumentation and vocal style. Metalheads want to hear their favorite bands do the craziest riffs, thunderous drumbeats, headbanging breakdowns and do crazy vocals to the point where you don’t know what they are saying The second meaning for “heavy” is the subject material in the song. A vast majority of songs in heavy metal deal with heavy subjects like drug use, war, suicide, cancer, mental illness, domestic violence, the whole nine yards And what Asking Alexandria is doing with “Dark Void” and the rest of their upcoming album, they are clearly doing both meanings of “heavy.” They got the riffs, they got the drumbeats, and they got the vocal style-side of “heavy.” But they also have the lyrical meaning of “heavy”, the song is about “fighting demons that live in your head and trying your hardest to be your own savior. Finding that strength to pull yourself out of the darkness.” That quote is from Ben Bruce himself on an article from Blabbermouth about the song When I saw people commenting on the band and Better Noise’s Instagram posts, “That is not heavy,” “where is the heavy?” I pretty much said to myself “Umm…did you forget the subject of songs can be heavy too?” I know this post might not make sense and might turn off a few if it does, but I had to jump in and clear the air a bit

literally nobody means they want heavy subjected lyrics when saying AA should be heavier again. Everybody and the band themselves know we are talking about Danny doing more gutturals again, more breakdowns again, heavier riffs, and NOT generic radio rock.

but to add, i do of course understand the meaning behind your explanation - this would just be a poooooor ass "excuse" from the band (OHHH you meant HEAVY heavy, not LYRICAL heavy?) at the end of the day the band should play whatever music they like to do, but theres just so many people growing up with old school AA (like myself too) and the style they had, was just so much more unique. Dannys clean voice has some good characteristics but apart from that, their radio rock istn any different from any other radio pop band, and it makes me sad. They were so good and unique

I was a huge AA fan back in the day then I kinda stopped listening to them after the self titled album cause I thought the last 2 albums where just awful. But I actually liked this song but I’m still not convinced that it’s the old AA but I’ll keep my mind open. Thanks for the reaction!

Asking alexandria i have so much respect for due to the HUGE risk they took. They abandoned everything to come to the US woth nothing and made it! Ben left his family in dubai then left what was left England. Huge respect to these guys! Been listening since the song bite your lip and fake it. I know its not danny. Still a fun song.

Used to be my favorite band of all time..my daughters middle name is Alexandria. That's how much I used to love this band..really miss the Reckless and Relentless AA so much. I know he had vocal issues after that album but I miss it so much. I love his singing voice now a days but I miss the heavy aspect of old AA. This song makes me feel a little better about their direction. Really miss his lows and growls

I may be a bit biased only because i grew up on pre leaving AA Danny but i personally think their older stuff is far better, however the way this dudes voice has matured is insane, i think for me its on par with ronnie from FIR in terms of how far they have taken their voice. Absolutely hot fire of bs on this one it's only heavy as they tuned the guitars down other then that this song isn't heavy like they advertised. Breakdown was okay. Beginning was awesome. Other than that, it was an eh for me. I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Ending should've been harder echoed. Beginning set a pace for the song that wasn't consistent. The editing with the Beginning would've been nice to see throughout. He doesn't like to scream, but we love hearing him do it. The fans will always love them obviously, but the AA we know and love with the screaming is dead. Which sucks. But hope they keep making music.
