Given, its been a while since I actually looked into this. But as I recall, Bojack is the only movie that actually fits into the timeline without issue (basically assuming the tournament they go to takes place almost immediately after Cell is defeated, before Trunks leaves to go back to the future). All the rest have something in them that directly contradicts the manga/anime timeline.

Only canon to SUPER only 🤧 and super takes place directly after DBZ Kai continuity and it also contradicts to the original DBZ which that continuity can n be argued to place with fewer movies into which the Kai version does not because its made to be continuous from the manga and in Z, characters like Garlic Jr and Pikkon are not presence in the manga but are originally hand written in concept of artwork by Toriyama-sensei himself, but it's mainly just a filler extra.

⁠​⁠@@BackroomsDogeScp173I guess you missed the entire 2018 canon tour thrown by Shueshia and the Toriyama led Bird studios that clarified that the manga (volumes 1-42), the Super manga, the Jaco and DB minus manga, the FnF movie and DBS Broly movie are the one and only canon. Canon Broly is literally canon Broly. None of the anime INCLUDING Kai OR the Super anime is canon. Fans need to stop arguing something that has been established for 6 years and actually research before commenting. The Super anime is also a continuation of the Z anime and not Kai. Hence why it has Z only scenes in like from the History of Trunks TV special. People just like to make up their own head canon. Lastly, what you’re describing as “contradictions” are simple retcons that quite literally every long running manga/anime has. Heck, probably 95% of long running fiction, especially the more popular it is. It’s part and parcel of creating something not knowing how big it will be or how long it will run and then it taking off to an insane degree so you have to explain and change certain things. It’s impossible to not retcon when you started not even thinking about where things would be 5-10 years down the line, let alone 40 like DB is. DB has been retconning since the original run.

Fusion Reborn simply cannot be canon. The point in time in which both Goku and Vegeta are death is the same point in which Gohan is training with the Kaio-Shins, so he shouldn't be on Earth. Things are made harder when we see Goten and Trunks fuse perfectly, something that wouldn't happen till Gohan is already doing said training. So this movie simply cannot happen.

Bojack Unbound is canon Goku is dead Bubbles and Gregory are in the film Mr.Satan recognizes the Z warriors Trunks broke his sword vs 18, he defeated the androids in the future and took some time off in the Future while repairing it. (That’s why his hair is long) He returned to tell her he defeated the Androids. (Bulma tells Chi-Chi this in the movie). That’s why he has long hair and his sword is back to normal. Even Piccolo belt color is splitting hairs. The only real inconsistency would be the news article at the end saying Mr Satan saves the World a 2nd time. That’s the real thing separating it from being canon.

False. Trunks stated it took 3 years to charge the time machine. Baby Trunks is still a baby so it's impossible he went back in time. Trunks left the day after Cell died so it would have to take place the literal day of the Cell Games. I hope I don't have to explain why that couldn't have happened. Goku not being able to go SSJ at will and being on earth when Gohan had his Namek hair, his Namek clothes and hadn't grown makes that impossible to fit. Gohan was almost 2 years older from Namek, was only wearing his Saiyan armour because it expands, had grown significantly and had long hair. That's even BEFORE Goku returns to earth. There's no way Coolers Revenge can fit.

I heard somewhere that the premise of that movie is that Frieza died against the spirit bomb. If that’s true then it deliberately was made as an alternate canon. The main issue with that though is in that timeline (if we’re to assume what I said is true, I may be wrong) then Goku becomes a Super Saiyan way easier in that timeline than in the main one. It also helps explain how Cooler found Goku. Since Namek wasn’t destroyed Frieza’s spaceship, or the Ginyu pods could have alerted Cooler automatically if they weren’t destroyed by the revived Namekians. This also would better explain why Cooler goes to Namek in the next movie but I’m pretty sure they established it as New Namek, and Dende is already on Earth despite Goku and Vegeta being Grade 1 SSJ and Gohan still being a little kid.

So you’re saying it’s an alternate unofficial continuity of the official continuation. But addressing that theory, there’s nothing inherently wrong with it, it just means the Cooler movies are standalone as Koyama stated. Which in turn of course means they can’t fit into the anime continuity. Even most filler can’t fit into the anime continuity.

False. Koyama was the main person involved in making the movies and even he said the movies aren’t connected. Each movie, apart from ones with recurring characters (the Cooler movies and Broly movies) aren’t even the same continuity, let alone the anime continuity that the movies contradict. Case in point, when did Krillin meet Gohan? Was it at Garlic jrs palace like the movies or at Roshi’s house like the anime? When did Goku have Kaioken and Piccolo was alive while Gohan had his Namek hairstyle? Was it in between the Saiyan and Namek arcs like the movie or never like the anime? When was Dende appointed guardian? Was it before the RoSaT like the Cooler movies and therefore GT as Cooler has a cameo or was it after like the anime? All it takes is a little bit of critical thinking. DB fans seem to lack that.

Toriyama refused to make The Promotional DBS manga and that's why Toyotaro was hired to write and draw it... and in retrospect, we now know that Toriyama was dying from a brain tumor for YEARS and he was a hermit that barely left his house... He was not working on the DBS manga and actually had no clue what was even going on in the manga.... all Toriyama ever did was give Toyotaro some notes and helped with a couple character drawing corrections here and there, that's it...

A lot of people these days get confused regarding the difference between "timelines" and "canon", so I'd like to take the opportunity to shed some light on that in this comment, especially as this subject gets complicated in regards to Dragon Ball specifically. To start with, what is "canon"? To put it in as simple terms as possible, it's the content that is considered an official part of a story by the rights holders of that story. Normally this would be the author, but when it comes to series that have multiple authors or rights holders this can get a bit muddy. It can even reach the point that there's more than one canon for the same series. For the sake of simplicity though, I'm going to boil it down right here as everything Dragon Ball that isn't made by fans as being canon, but split into multiple different canons. I'll elaborate more on that point later. So how are timelines distinct from canon? Well to be simple about it, a timeline is just the order of events things take place in within a canon. There can be multiple timelines within the same canon as well, especially in franchises that make use of time travel. Dragon Ball does, and so you end up with multiple versions of the timeline existing alongside each other in the same canon. For instance, the timeline Future Trunks comes from and the timeline the main series takes place in are different timelines, but both are part of the same canon. Additionally, the presence of a plot hole does not disqualify an event from being part of either a timeline or an overall canon. Plot holes are very common in fiction despite authors attempts to iron them out, and we'd have to do a lot of disqualifying of things known to be canon to remain logically consistent with the rule if we were to apply it which would leave us with a butchered illogical mess that's even worse for the narrative than the plot hole we started with. For simplicities sake, just keep in mind that timelines are things that exist within canons and individual canons can contain multiple timelines. So how does all of this sort together? Well to lay it all out, there's multiple different canons which I will lay out as follows: Toriyama canon - This is everything directly authored by Toriyama himself. This includes the original manga, the Super manga, Dragon Ball Minus, and most recently the Daima anime. This is also the canon that was recently inherited by Toyotaro after Toriyama's unfortunate passing. Toei canon A - This includes the original Dragon Ball anime, the original Dragon Ball Z anime, all of the original movies for both, all of the filler, all of the anime specials such as Episode of Bardock, the "Yo! Son Goku and his friends Return" special, the Battle of Gods movie, and all of GT. This canon in particular is a headache inducing mess to try to make sense of. However, it is still a canon nonetheless. Toei canon B - This includes the original Dragon Ball anime (for now, might get replaced some day), Dragon Ball Kai (Known as Dragon Ball Z Kai in the west), the "Yo! Son Goku and his friends Return" special, the Dragon Ball Super anime and movies, and possibly also Daima. The Battle of Gods movie and the Resurrection of F movie are not included in this and are instead covered by the first few arcs of the Super anime. Heroes/Xenoverse - This is the canon that exists in various video games. It contains references to everything else except the manga (so far at least). It's basically just there for merch and fan service, but does have some genuinely interesting exclusive characters and storylines within it. There's also anime produced for it. It's also worth taking note of the fact that not every video game takes place within this canon, a lot of them are just recaps of Toei canon A and/or B without any of the Heroes/Xenoverse specific content. You might notice that I didn't place the Resurrection of F movie. I don't actually know which canon this movie fits into. It most likely fits into Toei canon A, however I haven't seen any outright confirmation of this and it's possible it could just exist in its own bubble. So why does this all matter? Because that which is part of one canon isn't necessarily part of another canon. For instance, both Toriyama's canon and Toei canon B contain their own very similar versions of Broly that are very different from the version of the character that existed previously in Toei canon A. Both of these Broly characters are non canon to each other, but are part of their own respective versions of the Dragon Ball canon. The same general logic and storyline doesn't always match up between different canons, and so you can have things such as Toei canon A having an entirely different version of the afterlife (especially hell) than what is shown to exist in the series within the other canons. The way power is scaled between canons can also be completely different. Specific lore points such as Earth also emitting Blutz waves and not just the Moon in Toei canon A can also be specific to that canon, and don't necessarily exist in the other canons. This shouldn't be confused with alternate timelines in which lore details of the canon they are a part of are ingrained into the narrative even if the events surrounding them didn't happen.

The only ones I can see being comfortably canon are _Bojack Unbound_ and _Wrath of the Dragon._ And a way I could see _Super Android 13_ being canon is if it took place in the timeline we didn't see- the one where Cell didn't show up and they used the schematics for 17 and 18 to create the shut-off remote and Trunks would later use the same method in his timeline.

Has anyone made a video about the movies being like "What If" branches of the main story? Like, what is the least number of things that needs to change in the canon storyline for any given movie to be able to happen. For example, I always saw Fusion Reborn as a follow-up to a situation where Gotenks defeated Buu and then Gohan returned after getting his powerup. Both Goku and Vegeta are dead at around that point, and this would allow the Fusion Reborn movie to happen. Likewise, the Broly movie could happen if Cell and the Androids were defeated by Vegeta and Trunks before Goku and Gohan came out of it. Gohan doesn't go SS2 in the movie, perhaps cause they were told the threat is gone, so Goku abandoned his Gohan plan.

fusion reborn shows the original vision Toriyama had before the v jump polls told him that Goku was still more popular than Gohan by a mile. In this movie you can see Goku and Vegeta are both dead but Vegeta is in hell, which means he never redeemed himself which would align with piccolo's statement about him going to hell, prior to his ultimate sacrifice. we can see that Gohan was in his "mystic form" when he one shot freiza, which means this timeline played out like we know it but this time gohan took care of super buu by himself. no buutenks means elder Kai never sacrificed his life to revive Goku, and no Vegeta would have to return to help as well. the way Gohan immediately dealt with Freiza shows growth and that he isn't playing around anymore and takes things seriously (guess unlike the arrogance he showed usually, that's the same attitude he had towards super Buu in that timeline.) cooler could easily fit into the 3 year time skip in preparation for the androids, vegeta was off planet training to archive super saiyan so him not being present makes sense.

Wrath of the dragon is already cannon. The sword Tapion gives trunks is not the sword future trunks uses but it is the sword trunks has in GT. The sword future trunks uses is just a regular sword that has no connection to wrath of the dragon. That’s why in xenoverse the trunks sword accessory looks different from the Tapion sword accessory. Also goku uses dragon fist for the first time in the movie and then a few other times throughout GT.

Movie 1 can’t fit because… 1: the reunion at kame house was the first time krillin bulma and roshi met gohan they haven’t seen goku since the battle against piccolo so taking place before is out 2. Taking place after raditz is also out because goku would be dead and for the same reason bulma krillin and roshi hadn’t met gohan prior to garlic showing up 3. The movie serves more of an alternative storyline to raditz reunion with roshi/bulma/krillin introducing gohan, gohan getting kidnapped by the main villain teaming up with piccolo gohan raging out and the villain being someone from piccolo past instead of gokus

For starters the the first cooler movie can be canon because it could easily take place in the three year time skip as for the second cooler movie it could have work in the timeline but there was one problem denda is guardian of earth meaning it would have to take place they get out the hyperbolic time chamber. As for the first Broly movie it can places in between the days leading up to the cell games as for Bojack unbound it literally after the cell games so the movie is possible

@@toumabyakuya I know that but I’m giving an example on how it could be canon also goku was out for most of that movie and normally when dragon ball characters fight don’t go all out until the end so you could make the argument that goku was saving super saiyan as a last resort

Also to add this before any ask. People might point out that the second isn’t canon because vegeta is in and has super saiyan. And everyone in that movie should know vegeta is a super saiyan but the thing is. Nobody besides goku saw his transformation and vegeta revealed it to everyone else after goku got sent back from the heart virus meaning if goku caught it later he would already know vegeta had it so with the second cooler could be canon but the denda part of the movie contradict that

No, Dead Zone cannot be canon, since krillin meet gohan, so it neither fit before or after raditz so its just doesnt fit. Cooler*s revenge can*t fit because goku cannot controll super saiyan, since he can controll supersaiyan in canon before he arrived back to earth, so no it doesnt fit. Broly doesnt fit because, goku is a supersaiyan from his exit of the chamber till his dead in the cell games same for gohan, but they arent in the movie, also Goku and Gohan suprissed everyone with their power in the cellgames so the others couldnt have seem them fighting before, so no Broly doesnt fit... Bojack cannot be cannon since trunks is back, but we know from super he never was before so it doesnt fit ... Brolys second coming doesnt fit (beside the first movie cannot fit) since Gohan is stronger in the movies then the last time he faced broly, wich isnt the case in the canon so it doesnt fit ... None of the movies fit besides maybe wraith of the dragon, wich just felt into a blank time.

What’s “canon” in Dragon Ball changes pretty often, even Super can be called non-canon now with Daima retconning it. I more or less see everything and nothing as canon at the same time, depending entirely on what context is being discussed.

Daima changed a single thing which is a minor retcon. It hasn’t retconned Super at all. Mortals defusing after an hour literally still fits as Kaioshins fusion was still permanent. It just means Boo actually DID cause Vegetto to defuse before his time was up. Also, Shueshia and Bird studios threw an entire canon tour in 2018 which stated what was canon which, surprise surprise is what everyone thought was canon anyway; the manga. That’s never changed and never will so I don’t how it “changes pretty often” in your eyes.

Also, the movies either being canon or not canon was never really a matter of if they fit into the timeline. It was really down to the lack of Toriyama's direct involvement. GT didn't contradict the continuity, but even in the 90s it wasn't considered canon. It use to really just be Toriyama's manga. But with his increased level of involvement in Super and the new movies the prerequisites have been muddled

Legit the only issue with Dead Zone fitting into canon is Krillin learning Goku has a son before Raditz shows up, and it's such a minor inconsistency that could be handwaved in so many different ways that it's barely an issue.
