I remembered back when I was a teen playing Diablo 2. I was playing a necro, and I was so driven by the role play that every time the NPC talked about how good a person I was, I answered back as if they could hear me with a hissy voice, "Nope, I am not a good person," or every time I killed demon bosses, I'd say, "Who's the real devil now?" with a matching evil laugh. I really wish I could go back to that old self again back when I had the ability to submerge my consciousness in the world of the game I played. It seems as I grow older, the fun is slowly fading away from me. Sadly. I think this is because games now are so linear the fun is no longer there. I agree with what you say here: the developers should add more depth to the game, like putting choice capabilities on what path players want. There was a game I played before, I think it was Dragon Age 2 or 3, and it gave me a choice on everything, whether to go the path of a good hero or go full-sith lord. 😅

I'm glad more content creators are playing both PoE & Diablo 4. I am and always will be a Diablo fan. However, comparatively to PoE's end game, Diablo is a joke. Here is a list of things I think Diablo can improve upon: 1.) More items and Ubers. This includes set items. Also to add to this, rebalancing of uniques. I understand they’re used for niche builds. But they should be tweaked a bit to be on par with a legendary. Maybe allow masterworking for the unique affix? 2.) Runewords. The game desperately needs something to increase the desire to actually see commons and rares. To add to this allow commons - blues to have a prefix of “cracked, broken, superior, etc” to add to the rarity to these items. To further improve upon our builds. Literally copy and paste the runeword system from Diablo 2. Don’t recreate the wheel. 3.) Cube recipes. 4.) Since the pit is out, blizzard can properly balance classes and abilities. Every build should be able to easily complete Pit 61. 5.) More end game grinds and things to do. More Uber / tormented bosses. In the list of new features on the shop I only see one. The “New PvE Co-op End Game Activity”. Great! Now add 2 or 3 more of these grinds. Things that aren’t easily achieved and require a heavy investment of time to accomplishment. 6.) When defeating tormented bosses a small chance for a charm to drop. Think D2 hellfire torch. A charm or trophy that not only looks cool, but can also add to the customization of your build depending on which charm / trophy you want to have on your person. 7.) Same thing as Diablo invasion in D2, that Annihilus charm should also be a thing. Could make killing the butcher be rewarding. Currently he’s just annoying. 8.) Add modifiers to the dungeons and end game stuff before entering or summoning. To increase the difficulty but have a higher reward. 9.) Tiered uniques or set items like that of D2. Which goes with cube recipes. It would be cool to be able to upgrade an item for the end game. This way if you find a low level item in the end game, you’re still able to upgrade it. Possibly turning it into something better than what you had before. 10.) More character customization. Either something like the paragon board to further customize your skills and abilities would be fun. Tempering does this but barely. I’d like to fully change how my abilities function. Not just increase their size. It should be unlocked at a later level, after the paragon board. A type of overlay on top of the skills table to further improve upon the customization of the skill tree/line that is in the game currently. 11.) The Mercenaries are a great touch for someone who plays solo. However, look for inspiration from the Diablo 2 mercenaries where you can add gear which can give them auras to either buff your character or debuff the enemies. Furthering the customization to your build. This was amazing! The Diablo 3 mercenaries (followers) were kind of a joke comparatively. 12.) More gems. Add more items to be able to plug into these sockets. Where did the jewels go from Diablo 2? 13.) I hope the spiritborn comes with abilities that buff their allies, and possibly debuff the enemies. Currently, Diablo 4 is geared more towards solo play. Which is great for me, because I usually play by myself. However, the game needs some adjustments geared more for co-op. Like, apparently the pit punishes the others for only getting half of the materials? That’s a terrible idea and should revisited. 14.) Uber uniques should be for all characters. My sorcerer should be able to use Azurewrath. My sorc was able to do so in Diablo 2, why can’t she in Diablo 4? They’re Ubers. 15.) More events going on in the world. Like Helltides, these events can overlap and create "uber" or "Hell Corrupted" events. Which means more roaming bosses, more danger, and more loot!

While i agree with everything said in the video, my biggest gripe is build variety and depth. D4 feels like a puddle when it comes to diverse builds, you have a two or three meta builds and everything else is manageable fluff. But for every build there are no wiggle room to build around strange weird spells or skills. It feels like they don't want you to be able to play your own way, build your own build that is viable. So your build is on rails, and you chase minute increases in gear scores immediately after the campaign, you start a grind there towards being geared to do ubers. There is just a stretch of grind, nothing else until you can do it. And while the core gameplay loop is fine, it's too slow between action and dumping items and so on. The design of the towns and cities, the distance from vendors, stash and portal is just too far. It feels slow and sluggish and awkward to run back and forth, especially when the attribute system is so shallow in what you can get on items that scale your build. Unfortunately i think ActiBliz has burned the bridge with this D4 for me, it was the safest, blandest arpg release i can remember, even games like torchlight, grim dawn, victor vran, shadows: awakening have taken bigger risks and they are all better gear and item systems than D4 in my opinion. And build variety. So i will keep playing D2 LoD and PoE, but i can't honestly let Blizzard use my money for the next safe, barebones game they have in the pipeline.

The most recent interview had the lead dev saying they don't want support characters because it would make group play too good. Too which i would say, well what about the open world? You never complain about having a trinity nearby in warframe even if that game has evolved to a pure damage meta. Rocking up to a helltide buffing everyone sounds like a great time for everyone.

yes, the 'gamba' thing is not just and item thing, its a systems thing. D4 loot is boring because the core systems don't allow for player freedom and variety. So its not possible for anything really interesting or game changing to roll on an item. compounded by the inventory management, 'smart loot' drops just breeds an environment where you aren't excited for drops overall in that game

Diablo 3 was awful. Diablo 2 set the bar. If anything, they took too much inspiration from 3, like the cooldown-centered “combat”, the easy bosses, damage numbers being the focus rather than the shit happening on screen

Ability to skip the campaign after your first character. Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure POE does just about everything else better.

@@123nickman123 Won't happen, they've already said they're not including an option to skip campaign in PoE2. People have been asking for a campaign skip or alternate leveling for several years in PoE1 and GGG always said no.

1. Gamba: mixed feelings about that, I agree with the example (div card doubling), but I think PoE goes way too far with the many layers or randomization, making the extremes pretty bad in some areas. So many terrible skills, impossible affixes combinations on monsters, astonomically low chances of finding actual good loot on the ground very early in the end game) etc 2. Boss uniqueness: agree, I'd extend that to dungeons, I see D4's 100+ dungeons similarly to Starfield's 1000 planets. When it basically feels like the same thing over and over, the amount really doesn't matter. 3. Sandbox: I hope D4 gets there, but imo they still have more core issues to solve before that. Imo the core parts that needs attention: the dungeons being boring as hell, skill pool that never changes (balance chances can help, but it gets stale when there's never anything new), skill tree is boring as hell (skill customization limited to like... 1 choice at best, and maybe another choice with aspects/uniques), overworld level scaling... that a bigger one that I don't have much hope for, but when everything scales with you, it's hard to see any meaningful power gains 4. Learnings: I think they do learn, it's just that their 2 teams workflow (1 team for current season and 1 team is working on the next season) means that some of the learning won't make it to the game until the next next season. It's nice seeing stuff we love coming back PoE, but sometimes it really came back to bite them in the ass when they don't think it through and add stuff to the game too fast (ie. Harvest). It got better in recent leagues, but it wasn't always the case.

1. Gamba: yeah, but the feeling that for example there is a tiny chance that the next mob you slay, even at lower levels has a mirror of kalandra is one of poes genius moves. The same feeling is why people play lotto, and is why killing mobs in poe is so exciting. Or the feeling that during your leveling you do actually have a realistic chance of getting a divne orb, drastically changing how powerful you can get just from one drop. This is the feeling diablo completely lacks. In my diablo 4 playthrough it never feelt like any drops really mattered, it never got me excited, only tiny incremental upgrades, a diluted experience.

I guess that's one more thing in the list of things D4 should improve, having useful/wanted drops that are not gear (like currencies, div cards, quality gems to an extend, maps, etc from poe). I think they're improving that a bit next season with greater affixes and uniques that can drop earlier and uber uniques starting at level 55

I don't care how much gambling addiction they add, because the items that you are gambling for are forgettable and bland. You can't have the addict dopamine rush if their is nothing worth having. The game is a large puddle that is wide and covers lots of surface but has a 1 inch depth.

PoE has far more RNG and gambling mechanics than D4. Gamba just means gambling/games of chance in PoE. Not just random loot. One simple example is ancient orbs. You can use them to try to turn a worthless unique into a priceless unique.

i feel there is a bigger gap between a bad build and a top tier build in poe, some items will drop and change your experience for that season greatly, it's not just an item that has 20% bigger numbers, you can get currency that will found your next 5 characters or items that are absolutly game defining.

@@MrMelani1 Thats true. I tried the open beta weekends and it was kinda a chore to look at all the "+1.3% damage versus enemies that were slowed at high health within the last 4 seconds" type affixes.

gambling. but its not about having more or less of it, POE's item system at its core allows for more situations where you can get great gear or gear with exciting potential which you can manipulate because of all the possible combinations and the game systems in place to allow for build options. D4's loot system was too limiting and uninspired to be truly exciting outside of uniques. Not just that but it is compound by the inventory space and crafting problems. meaning by the late game you are left with no anticipation for anything exciting to drop as there are just no options left other than a slightly better rolled unique version of the one you already have. nothing game changing can happen.

yeah, the whole 'gamba' thing hinges on the item systems working / being good, not just the presence of RNG itself. GGG's item system is great and has been since the off. Incredibly ironic as POE is essentially an evolution of D2, something you'd think D4 would have learned from, ESPECIALLY as just prior to D4 they remastered D2 as D2R!!! I mean was it a completely different team??? because even after remaking the best diablo game apparently they still haven't learned what makes a great diablo game! (yes I know they rushed it out to save face after Immortal but still)

All good points, but at least in regards to bosses they've kinda shot themselves in the foot. D4 is very story driven, and I don't believe I have seen anyone ever complain about the quality of main story quest. So you at least have some context on who is who and why you're fighting them, because let's be honest, without reading the lore document who even is Elder, Shaper and Sirus? With that same involvement comes that you can't make those bosses too hard or involved otherwise people will come crying to the forums "story too hard" and "why do we need to farm for a hundred hours just to finish the story". PoE has the inverse problem, the fights are cool and nice and hard, but when you're done you kinda go "who did I just kill?" "why were you important enough to be given X loot?". There's also the variety thing, whereas in D4 everything has to at least be able to do every content, PoE does have ultra high investment uber killers with 6 portal defense that just straight up die whenever they walk into a normal T16 as well as builds that are great in maps but lack so much single target DPS to make them unusable for almost any kind of bossing. // Edit: Regarding your last point, I'm gonna argue that it's most likely a lack of trust internally in the developers. For one, formerly ActiBlizz is a massive machine, or heap of scraps depending on your personal beliefs, with dozens of departments that have something to say on any deployment. I'd bet my lunch there's some sales and marketing dude that managed to blame the devs for their own f-ups so often that now everything needs to be approved by his department as well, and that times 5 or more. But testing has to be planned, they've got work to do as well, yada yada. That stretches a 60 minute fix into a multi-week process. Whereas I imagine at GGG it's more like, "Ah, crap, lemme fix that. Hey guys can someone review that real quick and hop on the test server to test that with me?" followed by a deployment shortly after, it might break something, but the fix for that is gonna be quick as well.

I hate that even though there are thousands of people giving honest and constructive ideas / feed back, that blizzard is just going to ignore most all of it. The ship is to big, the command chain to vast... they could not correct coarse even if they wanted to with such a delay in their responsiveness.

Path of Diablo 4 would be awesome The reason I don’t trust the devs of d4 is because they hide the fact they’re game design is motivated by money even though we all know that to be the case and this leads to vanilla and boring design. GGG don’t hide the fact they want you to spend money buying mtx but want to design a fun game first and foremost.

Transparency is indeed king. But i regret to say that blizzard has gone to the dark side as well as bethesda. We can no longer hope for things like transparency from them as their primary interest has moved from good games to good money. The management will never let the teams have transparent communication. Everything is a cold, calculated desicion to optimize their income, and they dont want the risk of one guy saying something stupid to tank their investor returns.

I think they really need to create a way to increase players creativity. In poe (and last epoch) the world is your oyster, you can make an archer marauder, or spell caster rogue, etc. D4 has a big issue on how it limites players creativity with the whole core skill and ultimate skill system. They really need to a find a way to break this without becoming over complex for its players base and adapted to the core mechanics they already use (reason why you can move last epoch system into d4).

dunno, now I'm maxing my RF for end game and more than "gamba" I just have to spend most of my time on PoE trade. Never played D4, but PoE it's a wonderfully bloated game, and this ends up ruining the elegance of it's base systems

The biggest problem I have with D4 is #6. They're very very slow to fix anything. Resistances got fixed in season 2 is so obnoxious to me. Damage on Tuesday (hopefully) got fixed in season 4. Man, it'll take a long time for them to start developing the real "end game" isn't it?

I don't know , I still like Diablo more than POE so .... I hope they don't learn too much from POE . Sure D4 has room to improve, but so does POE . Looking forward to POE2 and D4 expansion but I don't see myself returning to poe 1's screen vomit approach to everything again . I think my last poe league is behind me .

While I appreciate what you're trying to do with this video, you need to realize none of this will ever happen. This might appear to be a hyper-negative response, but we've all seen this play out before nearly identically with D3. Seriously, go back and look at the D3 posts from 2012, all this has already played out before. I vividly remember this one guys post about how to make the crafting system worth doing. He had these amazing ideas and different variations of Fiery Brimstone. It was actually impressive. This one guy put more thought into his post than Blizzard did with the entire crafting system of D3. Besides, even if they added all the stuff in your video that PoE has, it would be for nothing. D4 doesn't have the items, the content, or the depth to utilize any of it. Just stick to PoE if you want PoE stuff in your games. Blizzard simply isn't making the game you want to play.

D4 is built on top of the D3 engine. This was a decision by the director previously known to "close out" development. Sure it was quick to market but scaling further down the line makes these things very difficult

To add to that, POE isn't afraid to take a swing and miss just like the current season Necropolis who had the worst player retention ever in its long history, D4 is always playing safe, even this loot reborn thing is quite boring maybe a hot take but it is what it is.

2 things you didn't mention that I feel like they should do aswell: 1. Stop with the "2 leagues ahead planing" PoE did this at start and then realized that it doesn't work for a game like this and therefore no longer do it. 2. Every PoE clip that you show contain like 60 more mobs than any D4 clip you show. Basically INCREASE mob dencity, It's a lot more fun to kill 20 mobs in one hit than one mob in 20 hits (when it comes to trash mobs)

They have been transparent, they are extremely transparent for a publicly traded entity, Even more so since the merger because, its less likely to take Microsoft stock. Remember if you are publicly traded little blips of too much info etc. can take your stock price.

Doesn't matter all those, the biggest reason POE is praised, is it has a real end game that is very very deep and players can choose how you shape your own experience with POE end game, it's the only diablo-like game figure that part out, the rest many are still what I'll call FATE level end game which is repeat endless dungeon without much difference from each dungeon, you remember FATE right? The original torchlight is a direct copy of FATE. Last Epoch is like that, D3 is like that, Grimdawn is like that, Torchlight infinite is slightly better but not much.

I have to disagree with your first point. Gamba is the reason why I stopped playing most of the ARPGs in my library. I don't feel like wasting dozens of hours with no progression because RNG isn't liking me. Doesn't matter how many dozens of builds you can have if, because of RNG, you can't build more then 1-2 per character.

Everyone forgets d4 was only put into development to appease the gigantic backlash after Immortal. It will bare those scars forever, its inception was flawed from the start. The fact they outsourced the D2 remake tells all, the best diablo game was right there to reverse engineer and instead the D4 team had to (seemingly) start blind and couldn't learn from it. They can build whatever shiny thing they like on top of it, but the core was born rotten.

Currency itemization and an economy to give items value and accumulate wealth at no point in the game do u feel like ur wasting ur time… d4 loot and slaying no value to items it feels pointless.. if there is no economy or currency then add in leaderboards competition retains players when we have a goal task and purpose get better be at the top grind gear get stronger hit top 3 test ur items build it gives incentive to actually play the fucking game

Sadly most of these changes would never see the light, they cater to an entire other crowd. Casual players arent interested in having hard boss fights, or even being able to plug skills in another skill tree. Diablo 4 will most likely forever be pretty bland, but will probably be fun for a couple of days each season for the more hardcore players.

To be fair PoE is a better game than diablo 4, but diablo 4 is a better product. GGG only makes about 50 million a year whereas diablo 4 made 600 million in 5 days of launch. But I still like PoE more so far.

Poe is not a game D4 dev will learn from. D4 tunes to much broader audiences, not a niche group of hardcore gamers. Something like the stupid skill tree of Poe, or BS unnecessary complexity of everything, the currency system the crafting system, and the BS mandatory campaign, and etc.. It’s only for hardcore gamers who will play 12 hours a day 100 days straight. Remove the mandatory campaign and make an auction house, then the game is much better, otherwise, really D4 doesn’t have much to learn from the unnecessary complex game called Poe, giving you all the illusions of choices.

That’s not true at all. I work a standard 40-hour work week and play PoE just fine. People have dicked out and want instant gratification. Path of Exike rewards and respects your time. The skill tree is what makes it objectively better than D4, as well as the developers of PoE being more competent than Blizzard

How is the tree complicated? It’s big, but what exactly is complicated about 16% increased lightning damage, or 5% increased maximum life? Path of Exile isn’t complicated, it’s just not for the dimwitted. And it’s not bloated unless you’ve either been there since the beginning, or have been told it’s bloated and have no other frame of reference. You’re not given every single bit of content up front, it’s given to you throughout the campaign, and whatever content you don’t like, you can ignore and even disable. Don’t confuse complexity with depth, either. And I’d rather be a PoE fanboy than some poor sod with Stockholm syndrome stuck with D4. Diablo used to be a cool series back in Blizzard’s golden age

It’s complicated at first glance, and the websites are entirely optional. Again, I would know because I actually play, and the only website I use is the official trade site. The “complicated” and “you need this and that” are all just rote responses from detractors and bitter washouts.

Diablo 4 is dead.....no Mac version ! After 20+ of Diablo games on Macs, Diablo 4 is PC only. And to think, GGG made a Mac version of POE for free !

(#6 patch quicker) IS A MAJOR FLAW. everyone i know has quit this league is from the mid league nerfs to farming strategies you can invest time and effort into a build that doesn't even have a farming method you built it for by the time its put together.. this is not a good thing look at the retention #s if i know over a half dozen people that wont stand for it i know it has to be a problem on a larger scale... maybe as a new player you haven't invested 100s of div into a build only to see its just a normal mapper now as your loot strategy to recoup investment vanishes

The retention isn't bad this league. Don't look at a random meaningless number and judge retention to be bad. And in any case, people are quitting because the league is too easy and rewarding, that is all. Patching exploits makes the game actually playable. Mind you, only exploits should be patched. If a build is OP, that is fine. If the best way to play is hours of sitting in your hideout and and keep putting maps in the map device without running them... then no.
