A correctly sharpened sword and martial art skill to use it would be more powerful with a crown of people attacking you (12 on one) then a Glock 9mm with 12 rounds. Statistically you will not survive even a knife fight let alone your marrow getting cut off completely

As a True Christian who worshipped God in Spirit and in Truth... I had placed my entire 100% TRUST through FAITH in Christ Jesus (Son of God) with my Family and my Personal Protection, "THY (God) WILL BE DONE." We can die any moment, any time, without Sickness or any Big Guns coming on the doorsteps... "All men DIE, but not all Men really LIVED." However, when it comes to our NATIONAL SECURITY of the Free State/Nation (USA)... it is our DUTY to KEEP and BEAR ARMS to defend the Annihilation (Existence) of the Free State/Nation... this is BEYOND Private Self-Defense... the Original INTENTION of 2A drafted by James Madison... There’s nothing wrong with possessing firearms. What’s wrong is using them on the offensive. Kind of like purposely plowing into a large crowd of ppl with a vehicle. Does that make it a sin to have a car? No.

Seek ye first the Kingdom and Righteousness of God, and all shall/will be added unto you." (ref. Matt, 6:33)... I suggest using these verses to show that we are not to be using weapons to hurt people: Matthew 26:52 ESV Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Luke 22:49-51 ESV And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" [50] And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. [51] But Jesus said, "No more of this!" And he touched his ear and healed him. ❤✝️

I stand firmly and believe to the ABSOLUTE TRUTH, that the "PRIVATE USE of Self-Defense" was not stated, stipulated, and written down in the 2A drafted by James Madison and ratified in 1791 A.D. ... Therefore, it was for the SECURITY of the Free State (Nation) through a well-regulated PEOPLE with Military Training called MILITIA, have the RIGHT to keep and bear ARMS that shall not be infringed was the Original INTENTION of the 2A... otherwise, everybody is entitled with their own personal opinionated interpretation... James Madison drafted the 2A, and not John Adams... If James Madison believed that the MILITIA's Weaponry (Arms) may also be used for PRIVATE SELF-DEFENSE, he should have added those words when he drafted the 2A... But that Private Self-Defense was not the ORIGINAL INTENTION of the 2A, nor it was written down... the Weaponries were provided by the Free State for FREE, and not SOLD to the Militia for Private Self-Defense... Making a living by the sword is different than being a good steward and protecting what God has entrusted to me, my family. Would you really stand by and let those you loved be destroyed when you had the means to stop them? When Jesus walked the earth did not carry a gun because he was and is God. Are you also quick to condemn others who carry a gun for the defense of others like law enforcement and the military? Jesus does indeed carry a sword in heaven as it is written, 11 "Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords," (Rev. 19:11-16).

Individually Jesus tells the disciples in Luke 22:36 “But now,” he said, “take your money and a traveler’s bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!" Jesus is referring to the future. When the disciples tell Him they have two swords, they mean in the present to which Jesus replies, 38 “That’s enough," because they would not need to use them in their present context.

One of challenges of the Christian life is not being judgemental of those who have differing interpretations of Scripture. It is easy to make arguments personal and attack the person instead of having to do the work involved with actually interpreting Jesus' words.

I agree. "He who writes interprets", that is a Maxim of Law; wherefore if the Bible says "The Word" means this, then that's what it means, not what you think it means, or hope it means. There is only one interpretation of scripture, and that is one according to exact definition from the Bible. Awareness of the "Symbolical Language of Scripture" is paramount to proper and accurate interpretation; you should read the Doc. in the following link, lest ye become even more confounded than thou art: drive.google.com/file/d/1kayKp1vDFf9cA8ZvAC0PKKs8i80420h6/view?usp=sharing

There were many invented DEVICES or FACILITIES to RESTAIN (refrain/hold back/stop) a person or a group of people w/o the purpose of ANNIHILATION and DOMINATION... for example, SEAT BELTS, HANDCUFFS, STRAIGHT JACKETS, SHACKLES, CHAINS, ROPES, BARBED WIRES, JAILHOUSES, PRISON & REHABILITATION INSTITUTIONS, etc. ... Hi. Pastor Stan's is a "one scripture" analysis. Not mentioned is the sermon on the mount where Jesus says to "submit to evil and turn the other cheek for a second attack" (Matt 5:39-48). Submit to those who would abuse you so you can be better than the publicans who only love those who love them. (Matt 5:10) has us accepting persecution to gain the kingdom of heaven, not defending ourselves. Jesus' final word on the subject was to tell Peter," He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword" (Matt 26:52), something Pastor Stan obviously doesn't believe applies to himself, despite him serving the gun lobby better than he does the Bible. Finally, (2Tim 3:16) says that all scriptures must be considered, not just one out of context. Cheers, P.R.

Christ also said, "Do not fear Men who can kill only the (Literal Physical) Body, but fear God/YHWH who can kill both Body and Soul/Spirit in Hell." (ref. Matt. 10:28)... TRUST GOD... "An Eye for an Eye, and A Tooth for a Tooth," was from the O.T. of God to Israel, and not from the N.T. of God through His Son, Christ Jesus... The Self-Defence taught by Christ Jesus to his followers is to run, hide, evade, and repulse in any way we can without using weapons or violence to hurt nobody to escape danger, and if you are cornered (nowhere to hide), let "God's WILL be Done."... Just like Christ, evaded the Jewish Authority from the Plot of killing or harming Him... Christ Jesus never used WEAPONRY to defend and protect Himself, for Christ truly TRUST His Father God/YHWH... "DO YOUR BEST (to stay safe/alive w/o violence or vengeance but seek fair justice/retribution), AND GOD WILL DO THE REST." Christ Jesus said, "Not even a hair from our head will perish without God knowing it." (ref. Luke 21:18)... Not a single SPARROW will fall down without God knowing it." (ref. Matt. 19:29)... Take Note: Ask yourself HONESTLY from your Heart... If you are a Christian where does your TRUST lie (depend) most, to God/YHWH or to WEAPONRY? God only allowed the use of WEAPONRY to defend from ANNIHILATION of the existence of a Nation/Country or God's People, not individual self-defense... WAR of the Nation is a bigger/wider issue, it involves the Entire Human Race... Not fighting for your OWNSELF but for the SURVIVAL OF OTHERS... Christ said, "WHATEVER YOU DO TO THE LEAST OF YOUR NEIGHBORS (Foes alike) YOU ARE DOING UNTO ME." (ref. Matt. 25:40)... We Defend OTHERS, and let OTHERS defend us in WAR... If NOBODY will defend us, let God be that one... if we truly TRUST through FAITH in God... Facts and Truth, Biblically and Logically speaking... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen.

I would disagree. I think this was taken out of context. The next verses says verse 37 “For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: ‘He was counted among the rebels.” The reason he told them to buy swords was for the prophesy said about him to come to pass. “counted with the rebels” Also in verse 38 the disciples ask Jesus are 2 swords enough? And Jesus answers yes. If Jesus was concerned about self defense he would tell them to get more sword because 2 swords would be not nearly enough to defend against the crowd that came to take Jesus that night. But the reason Jesus said to bring the swords was for the prophecy about him from the Old Testament to come true. Lastly Matthew 26:52 Says… Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." This from another gospel that writes about that scene and Jesus clearly says who takes up a sword shall die from it. So that would be a contradiction to buying a sword to defend yourself. Jesus wanted them to make Old Testament scripture happen about him.

Love your neighbor as yourself. Doesn't say "love your Christian neighbor as yourself". When you engage in self-defense, you put your life on the line. Anything can happen, and even an unarmed individual can turn the tables and end up with your weapon... "Greater love hath no man..." Just my personal interpretation, I'm no priest or theologian. If we are called to be martyrs, that's another story. But refusing to defend yourself leaves your family, and anyone else depending on you for protection, at the mercy of those who will do them harm.

The sword (v. 36) is not to be understood literally (compare vv. 49-51), but refers to the living word of God in the battle against sin (Eph 6:17; Heb 4:12). St. Ambrose adds an additional meaning: that giving up one’s garment and buying a sword refers to surrendering the body to the sword of martyrdom. Because the disciples were thinking of swords literally, Jesus abruptly ends the discussion with the words, “It is enough,” or better translated, “Enough of this!” (see Dt 3:26; Mk 14:41).

True, Jesus does tell them to get two swords. However, later after Peter cut the servants ear off Jesus said “put up thy sword, for all to take up the sword must perish with the sword”. I think it’s possible the displayed swords caused the mob to back off somewhat from killing Jesus on the spot, but I think it was also a teaching moment for us as believers to not be aggressive toward others. John had his head cut off in prison and Jesus let it happen. With one word he could have turned there swords into feathers who killed him. The question really is “what would Jesus do?” 1Peter 2:23

Peter pulled out his sword and Jesus stopped it quick and rebuked Peter, “all who draw the sword will die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52). If you use violent, forceful, or underhanded methods against other people, you can expect those same methods to be used against you.

The Greek word here for sword is "machaira" which is a short sword. It could be used for attacking but it is more like a utility sword. Almost like a tool. When Jesus says "It is enough" He isn't talking about the swords. The Greek here is "eimi hikanos" which is translated: I Am enough. It is the same "I Am" when he says I am the way, It is the same I Am when he says before Abraham was I Am. I believe what Jesus is trying to say here is this: The way it was before is not the way it will be now. You will face persecution and difficulties. Before when I sent you out it was a more friendly situation. Now it will be difficult, but I am enough. Trust in me. You can take provisions but know who your provider is.

This is just playing around and borrowing the text. The biggest way to deal with this is the example left by Christ and all Apostles. They all died not fighting back. They took it literally all the way to the grave. I suspect that before Constantine (325AD), lots of christians died following this literally. This is another instance of verses fighting each other and christians picking what they want. Peter was the ONLY christian recorded in the NT fighting. He was severely rebuked by Christ himself. Even in Revelation no Christian fights. All they do is cry out to the Lord for vengeance. Pastor is just finding a text to the contrary of one likes or listens too. I think it's very shallow that all the Prince of Peaces kids are looking for excuses not to do what is clear in the bible. Following this Pastors advice, how will any Christian truly be different from the world? Their not. they look the same as an apostate like me. I would call it sad, but at this point it's annoying and pathetic. Anyone can make that book say anything they want. Remember that Christ also told us to esteem our neighbor as better than ourselves. I don't think this stuff fights Christs message. Thankfully for you and me, HES NOT THERE!!!

Mr. Pastor; if you look at the verse in its original language, the word "sword" is actually called "makhai" which is not a weapon, but a utensil or tool...like a camping knife. And, when Saint Pete used this to hurt someone, the big J was like; 'hold on...you're not suppose to go off cutting ears with these things!' Further more; if Yeshua (Jesus's real name) endorsed using weapons why didn't the early Christian church defend itself, rather than being eaten by lions? Maybe, this is just another case of using a really smart, super cool, turn the other cheek, jewish guy into an American action hero. Maybe, if we all listen to Yeshua's 'actual words' and actually followed his example we wouldn't need 'swords' in the first place. God bless and stop the madness.

In that time period, those types of "swords" were the common person's means of self-defense as well. The classic sword, designed and used solely for fighting, was mostly the province of professional soldiers. Norse peoples, for example, had a scramasax or seax which was used for everything from skinning game to chopping roof shingles to defending themselves/fighting. And Christ rebuked Peter not for using his knife for other than its intended purpose (lol how ridiculous) but because it was His time...also because He did not come to earth to lead an armed revolt, as you well know. Attempting to misapply Christ's words and actions during His time on earth to say that no one is allowed to defend themselves is absurd, and no less devious than any other twisting of Scripture that people do.

Well you have to ask, is it loving to stand by and watch someone hurt someone else? Is is loving to the aggressor, to allow them to kill someone and grieve their conscience? Is it loving to the victim to stand by and let someone hurt them? Blessed are the peacekeepers, but you can not be a peacekeeper if the first time human evil confronts you, you are dead.

@@victorstrong7378 A true peacekeeper is one who shows mercy even when he doesn’t have to. One who has every advantage, every power to deny something from another and willingly gives it over. See Jesus Christ, who had the power of creation, to call legions of angels to assist him, but died for you willingly. No my friend, a peacekeeper is not unarmed and non-violent. A peacekeeper is one who is armed to the teeth and chooses to give rather than be taken from.

When, pray tell did Jesus promote someone attacking an enemy? The only example we have seen is when his follower attacked Jesus persecutor. He condemned the action and regenerated the attacker's ear. He most definitely does not promote weapons of mass death

Did Jesus say you can defend yourself with violence. No. I wouldn’t take one scripture out of context to justify the need to carry a gun. There’s no weapons on the narrow path other than our sword which is the word of God. Don’t fall into the trap of hating your enemies. Turn the other cheek and trust that God will protect you. The second amendment is not Christian and neither is this nation.

Jesus also got mad at Peter when he cut the ear off the Roman soldier. He said live by the sword die by the sword! You are the very reason that people think it's OK to buy guns, and that is actually what's wrong with our society. God said lover of this world will not see the gates of heaven. Do you think he's really gonna let you in with a gun? Do you think you're gonna have a gun in heaven. Think about that, would God buy a gun? I don't think he would because he said live by the sword die by the sword. God teaches about forgiveness. How are you forgiving someone if you're shooting at him before you even talk to him? That is actually happening now. The fact that you could look around You and see all the innocent people, all the innocent children, getting killed and you actually say that. Let's hope God is in the mood to forgive you for teaching that it's okay to have a weapon and shoot people because that is false teaching. A lot of those guns come from people who are fighting for the right to own a gun. And if they're not using it on somebody their children are.

This is misquoting scripture to justify a carnal/worldly position of owning a firearm, scripture is deep and requires revelation which is clearly lacking in this presentation. There is no such justification in the Bible and this position cannot be advocated by a Pastor. You did say it’s a heavy topic and you missed the point completely.

To be clear Jesus rejected the suggestion for the use of swords and later rebuked the use of one on the servant whose ear was cut off. Jesus does not support we carry guns..... the following is from Pastor Dave Guzik and two other bible scholars (Pate and Geldenhuys) It is enough: When offered the swords Jesus said this, meaning "Enough of this kind of talk" and was a firm way of ending the conversation. Jesus did not mean, two swords will be enough to battle the crowd that comes to arrest Me. "Jesus' answer, 'Enough of this', is to be preferred to that of, 'it is enough.' The latter might imply that Jesus affirmed the disciples' suggestion, acknowledging that two swords would be sufficient for the conflict. But the context clearly rules out that rendering." (Pate) It seems that the disciples didn't understand what would happen in the next several hours. Later Christians also did not understand what Jesus meant here. “In his notorious papal bull Unam Sanctum, Boniface VIII (A.D. 1302) built on this text his doctrine that the Pope has the right to exercise secular as well as spiritual autocratic rule over mankind - the two swords, he said, are the spiritual sword and the secular sword.” (Geldenhuys)
