I didn't know Madame Tussaud was a real person. On another note, Giles seems to have a lot of notable ancestors.

@@CJT3X In fairness, if you go far enough back, all of us have notable ancestors. The logic is quite simple, really. You had 2 parents, each of them had 2 parents - so 4 grandparents - each of them had 2 parents - so 8 great grandparents - and this sequence keeps on going, doing "the powers of 2", doubling each time: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536... This is an exponential sequence and, after 32 generations, for example, we're at over 4 billion ancestors. Thing is, 32 generations ago - taking "a generation" to be about 30 years, as is the usual metric - would be about a thousand years ago, and there simply were not 4 billion people on planet Earth back then. But the logic is not broken. The point is that we're not taking account of the fact that we could be double counting the same person. It's possible that you descend from the same person in multiple ways and you have more than one branch back to them. That your great-great-great-great-great-grandmother could also be your great-great-great-great-great-grandmother more than once, via a different branch of the family lineage. The mathematics of this is that, if you go far enough back into the past, the odds that you're related to that person - assuming that they had children and the family line didn't just end - tends towards certainty. Go far enough back and you find a generation where everyone alive today - yes, everyone - is related to this one historical person way back. That's true whether they were notable or not, but we tend to know the notable people from the ancient past. Indeed, if you logically extend this concept, then you reach the conclusion that every single human being in human history is a descendant of the first human being... which, if you think about it, is perfectly logical, right? Of course we are. And this was the revelation that Charles Darwin famously wrote. He drew a tree - "the tree of life" - and then wrote "I think...". The revelation is that the Tree of Life is just a gargantuan family tree. All life is related to each other. Which brings us to a neat revelation. Look out the window and do you see that tree outside? That's your cousin. And, no, I'm really not being poetic there. That is, technically, your actual familial relationship to that tree. Now, of course, this cousin is ridiculously distant and incredibly "far removed". We're having to go back hundreds of millions or billions of years to find that "share common ancestor" between you and the tree. But it does exist. And all life on Earth - all of it, including bacteria and fungus and everything - is family. Stupidly distant family, granted. But family nonetheless. "The Tree of Life" is a family tree. Your family tree. Everyone's family tree. It also has other interesting implications. As long as Gyles Brandreth's family line continues, then eventually - many, many generations from now, if humanity keeps going for thousands more years - everyone on Earth in that future will be related to Gyles Brandreth. All of them. Same would be true of you or me, if those family lines keep going, as well.

Amusing that there are three different spellings of Gyles Brandreth's name in the few comments here so far. Also amusing to think that he's related to a revolutionary Luddite. Because just about everything about him screams "old money" to me.
