I watched Washington Spirit vs Arsenal yesterday, blows my mind how Gabby was only selected as an alternate in the Olympics! And look at her performance at the Olympics, she used her performance to prove herself. I didn't feel she came out swinging and trying to backstab, she was just laying her emotions out raw, she deserves (and Viens too) more recognition.

The players (but you guys as well) deserve huge credit for getting not one but two people ON THE RECORD to talk about this and give their unvarnished feelings. Unlike the heavy reliance on anonymous sources during most of this saga, it allows the viewers to weigh the credibility and/or motivations of these sources themselves to determine the veracity of the claims being made. Anonymous sources definitely have their place but should be mixed, complimentary, and be secondary to named ones.

I thought the interview was well done. It was nice hearing the personal accounts from both these players and how they handled the fallout and how the team used their strong bond to get through it together. Merci to Evelyne and Gabby for coming on and speaking their truths. Thank you and well done to the Footy Prime team.

There always seems to be someone who tries to find fractures and divisions where there are none. I saw lots of pre and post Instagram posts from several of the players who were socialising within and without the Olympics. There was always a mix of anglophone and francophone players. Excellent point, Amy, about how well Viens and Carle managed to express difficult emotions in their second language.

Ha ha ha! I’m glad you fellows appreciated my compliment, it was sincerely meant, and I was aware at the time that I was in danger of sounding condescending, but I always believe that it’s important to focus on the good rather than always being ready to criticise or leap to well worn stereotypes. Anyway, as you’ll see, I’ve exceeded my fair share of commenting space here today, but it’s only because it was such an engaging podcast/youtube. Cheers! Oh, and, you guys are always welcome to drop in anytime, she says hesitantly 😂

The group has a strong bottom up culture. I get the sense that jessie fleming is a leader. With Sinclair and Schmidt retiring, this is very nice to hear. This tells me that the group requires little retooling. Resilient attitude and solid work ethic are paramount. Thank you, Amy, for a great podcast format. No one else comes close to delivering fresh and valuable insights into canada's women's team.

Evelyne has said publicly that she would leave the national team if necessary. As a fan, and as someone who also thinks she is treated like crap while producing more than almost anyone else on the front line, I'm listening to HER,....not anyone else.

I think Amy is right, re: Viens’ goal. I love Lacasse and Leon, but they would most likely have taken an extra touch. In this case Vien was masterful like Sinclair. Come to think of it, Fleming also scored a one touch goal, I believe (game?).

A good example of a player who did not openly express their anger at the unfairness levelled at them was Vivienne Miedema, who was treated very poorly by her coach and then let go by Arsenal. I’m sure she was hyper cautious not to express her true feelings because it could hurt future contract chances. But here we have the very courageous Viens and Carle who spoke truth to power, and you could say, have risked much. It’s impressive.

Let's not forget Herdman in this mess, I think he is the architect of all this.

I watched the previous interview: There is NO ONE who can justify either Sydney Collins or even Jayde Riviere should have been given a spot on the National Team over Gabrielle Carle. Carle is in shape, she is game ready, and a freaking fighter. Her Washington match against Arsenal yesterday, all you heard the American commentator talk about was Saar and GABBY CARLE. Not Russo, or Little, or Mead or whoever. GABBY CARLE.

I didn’t mention yesterday but I find that putting Evelyne into the 9 spot, with her back to goal, was not the best place for her. In the brief bits of video I have seen of her club play, she is attacking the goal. I think we got to see more of her natural playing in the Olympics. Hope to see more of this. With that said, she is a professional and did the job that was asked. 🇨🇦⚽️

The Gabby situation is a complicated one because there are numerous examples of players who seemingly have all the tools to crack a national squad but for whatever reasons did not earn the confidene of a national coach. It is very common in the men's and women's games.

Another earth shattering episode with you clowns :P, how your subscription isn't blowing up is unfathomable. Two take aways I really hope that comes from this scandal and I've been calling for this for decades, 1: Player representation: So I realize that a squad of 30 to 40 players is (maybe) hard to form a players union, but these women are left to fend for themselves way too often. 2: A complete revamp of the CSA coaching staff, especially the skill development. There are way too many issues about this to list...

My only slight uncomfortableness is the fact that the two players who came on are players who never had the trust of the former coach. it would be nice to hear from well established players such as Buchanan, Lawrence. Fleming etc.

My feeling is there is much more to be uncovered and many will be uncomfortable with the results. I wish this podcast had asked some harder hitting questions. Priestman did not work in a silo. We know this because she sent an email to their external HR company seeking direction on what could be done with an analyst who did not want to continue cheating by using drones. That in itself demonstrates many issues. Beyond other coaches, what involvement did other players have. Christine Sinclair surely was involved in deeper conversations with Soccer Canada and the coaching staff than two players that Priestman didn’t have full trust with. Did she know? What about other key players? Herdman? Even the staff that remained in Paris likely had knowledge. We know from reporting that both the men’s and women’s teams engaged in cheating. Coincidence? I don’t think so. This was deeply rooted and spoken of to the extent an employee could write it in a formal email! My suspicion is some players knew of the usage of drones. How could they not? They travel, live and eat with the staff whom they form relationships with. They see staff come and go with drone equipment. They attend meetings both formally and informally. They see video. They are informed of strategies, yet never question when they’re on the field how their coaches knew the formations, strategies etc. of the opposing team to such perfection. There is a lot more to this and I fear it’s going to unveil some ugly truths.

@@thomashong2938 First of all, if you believe when I opine that I believe there will be more revealed in the drone scandal investigation and many won't like the outcome. This isn't innuendo. It's an opinion. When I write that an e-mail was written by a former analyst to Beverly Priestman who objected to taking part in cheating via a drone...and in turn, Priestman went to HR to seek solutions on what to do...this isn't innuendo. You sound very ignorant. Again, this isn't innuendo. It's my opinion.

Exactly. They found two players with a beef who only now, with Priestman sanctioned, "boldly" and "candidly" speak out. It's not serious journalism, but then again, it's an amateurish podcast, there's nothing journalistically sound about praising guests and not asking them the hard question: did you know Canada uses drones to watch rival practices?
@thomashong2938
@thomashong2938 2 ай бұрын
@@jeffreyswartz9568 That question has been answered by other people. Christine Sinclair and Desiree Scott both deny knowing anything about drone spying on other teams. Neither one had a beef with Bev Priestman previous to this scandal breaking out.
