I’ve been on 7 Disney cruises and never knew that this was how the workers were treated I see so many people throwing shade at the workers especially the life guards.

working on a cruiseline sounds so intense, i understand a lot of employees on the ship are foreigners and are used to working long hours, but for americans who work onboard, my hat goes off to you. It would be much nicer if they had more crew members and alternated the shifts to where you're only working 8-10 hours a day instead of 12-16. One set of crew members works 8-4 and the other works 4-12 or so.
@TeenG
@TeenG 4 жыл бұрын
Yes but to house so many crew members wouldn't be beneficial to the cruise lines. I think this is why its so rare to find Americans working on cruise ships!

@@TeenG I'm thinking of signing up to do this once everything in the world clears up. Do you think the shortage of United States workers willing to work the hours would make them seem more favorable and hireable?

The reason foreigners work on board is the same reason they move to other countries Money my fried Is not because we are use to work long hours In Brazil were I am from we work 8 hours a day and we have several laws to protect us for example if we get sacked we will receive a salary until we get another job ( max 6 months). First time I worked long shifts was in a cruise ship. When I lived in England I have had long shifts as well in a coffee shop I worked 12 hours with 20/20 min breaks.

This whole "Not allowed in guest areas without special privileges" seems ridiculous! If you're not in uniform the guests won't realize you're an employee anyway.
@TeenG
@TeenG 4 жыл бұрын
I thought that in the beginning too, but i started to understand it because if you let every department on the ship have the same privileges, there could be 1,000 crew members lounging by the guest pools. Guests would be paying so much and have no where to sit, etc. I know where they are coming from too!

Just curious how the "privileges" work? How do they determine who can do thinks like go to upper decks and who can't? I'm at WDW as an attendant right now on a CP but just applied to BBB on DCL since most of my experience before Disney is at Sephora so I thought it would be a good fit and now I'm so curious about all these things.
@TeenG
@TeenG 5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on your department and your ranking. So smaller departments tend to have more privilages because if you let 15 people go to the upper decks its a lot less crowded then having a department of 300 allowed to go up.

@jeffallen3598
@jeffallen3598 4 жыл бұрын
If you got into trouble for something, could you tell them “i was just going with the flow”? i bet not.. So why the hell can they tell you that during training and when asking questions? A setup for failure? Anyone in training, i wouldn’t take that. Do your self a favor and be persistent and get your questions answered. Don’t be worried about looking like a pest. Most of us know what a pest is and sounds like.. Being persistent getting your questions answered is not it.. Most would call that Sharp... On top of things... Eager... etc. Nothing worse than being on the job and having no idea what to do.

@@TeenG cool. They should really do nights where just the cast member can do something. There is so much for the guest on board that if one area was shut down or "private event" they would never know the difference. Also, I understand the love hate relationship with Disney. My daughter was in the College Program and was a full time employee after. Agree 100 % on the medical. They could do way better for you guys. She now works for Universal and loves it.Also, there are "college" type programs(you dont have to be in college) all over the country you could work ... on LAND. 😂🤣 2 years ago she worked at the grand canyon for 6 months and this past year she worked in Alaska for 6 months. Now she is talking about going over seas. Lol

I enjoyed your video, but let me pass on some wise experience I've acquired over the years when it come to "asking questions" - especially if you're the kind of person who likes to ask a lot of questions, as you mentioned. Here's what I've learned that will best serve your interests: (1) People, including teachers, really don't like to be asked a lot of questions. You would think they do, but deep down they really don't. That doesn't mean they don't mind being asked a question here and there - which leads to the next point, (2) Only ask a question when you truly do not understand something and that "something" is going to be a "direct" responsibility of yours. This situation is different from asking a bunch of questions out of just "curiosity" or amusement - those kind of questions will get on people's nerves because much of what you will ask will likely be eventually covered. So, only ask something that (a) you truly don't understand and (b) it's something you will absolutely need to understand for you to continue to the next part of whatever it is you're learning. As someone suggested "just go with the flow." (3) and the most important point of all, especially if you're ever in a supervisory position or position of authority ...Only ask questions that you already know the answer to. While that might sound kind of dumb - give it time, as you get older and more experienced in life, you will come to see the wisdom and benefit of this. It will help you see who (above you or below you) truly knows their stuff. This point comes right out of Donald Trump's book "The Art of the Deal." Read it. Forget what you might personally think of him, it will teach you a lot about people, their personality types and how to deal with others. You might not realize it, but you're always "negotiating" with others in everything you do - even in a relationship or marriage. There's a lot to be learned from people who are successful, and he has certainly been successful, no matter his personal attributes. I think you're a good person, with a good attitude and most importantly, a good work ethic - and that will always serve you well. I wish you the very best of luck! :-)

I think it means that depending on your position and ranking. you might NOT be allowed into public spaces on the ship. This is the difference between "Crew" (lowest ranking), Staff (middle) and officers (top with all privileges). Crew usually cant enter public spaces other than for work and using full working suits. Some staff do have the permission to wander around the ship public spaces, and very few have the full privileges of entering the restaurants to eat and/or use the facilities. Officers pretty much can do whatever they please I guess.

It makes sense that crew don't eat with passengers and lounge around the public pool areas. Officers are on view to use their personal skills & ocean/ship knowledge to schmooze with passengers.
