Germans: "The situation is serious but not hopeless" Austrians: "The situation is hopeless but not serious" That's pretty much it the difference.

Since a lot of Germans only know Austria from their vacations they have very fond memories of Austria. But I know (from own experience) that a lot of the Austrians have the opinion that Germans don't have a sense of humor (or almost none).
@lepredator17898 жыл бұрын
+sarakaster actually thats not really the case anymore, many of us watch german comedians and love german comedy movies (Fuck ju Goethe, Schuh des Manitu, (T)Raumschiff Surprise etc.) Germans tend to take work way more "serious" than austrians, overall austrians bring humor to pretty much everything, including work - while germans on the other hand tend to be super serious about what they do (which is a pretty good thing imo) I guess thats the reason many austrians thought germans have no sense of humor
@sarakaster8 жыл бұрын
Le Predator First rule of humor: You gotta be able to laugh about yourself. If Germans tend to take work (and themselves) more serious they need to loosen up a little - which is kinda my point btw. Most Germans fail hard to get subtle Sarcasm and witty dark humor and can't hold themselves when it comes to obvious in your face slapstick comedy routine slike in the movies you listed. Schuh des Manitu was the best of em IMO, but it's very rich broad humour. Me personally, I like to be challenged a little bit when it comes to humor - makes you stay with it, appeals to your brain and not some clown show. But don't worry when you get to Tirol or Kärnten in Austria...they have no clue about sarcasm either. (Smart individuals excluded).
@BlackCat-tg7th5 жыл бұрын
We all think you guys have no sense of humor? Oh no xD I had trouble talking over things with you guys, English people are more open for arguments it feels like, but no humor? Oh hell no you guys do have humor! I have witnessed it enough and on the contrary, some random stranger on the internet thinks I have no sense of humour, this makes us even! ^^

Sort of reminds me of the differences between north and south in the US. We southerns are slower, more gentile, a bit more classic; whereas, northerners are more practical, industrious, and too-busy to bother with such cultural nuances.

Austria and Germany are two political entities. Of course there are differences, but those are regional. Among austrians and germans. If you move in any direction about 100km you notice a different dialect, culture, etc.. Foreigners would feel a strong contrast between west/east austrians and/or north/south germans. It's a cultural spectrum.

Heyy!! i would love to see Tirol, Wien und Salzburg. Danke fur eure Videos, sie sind ganz toll! It would be a great idea I think to go in different areas and ask and talk in the dialects(if there aren't such episodes yet). E.g. Matias obviously spoke quite differently sometimes. There are many dialects in Germany and probably Austria too, and while people probably speak/understand hochdeutsch, the language they speak normally is quite different. It would be very interesting to see the differences! (and see if we who learn hochdeutsch would actually understand something hahah) Danke wieder und herzliche Grussen aus griechenland :))

"Was uns am meisten trennt ist die gemeinsame Sprache" Da sprichst du ein wahres Wort Matthias. Nehmen wir mal das kleine schöne Wörtchen "Kaffee" Wie dieses Wort in den beiden Ländern schon nur ausgesprochen wird. Wie ein "preussischer Stechschritt" einerseits und wie "a gmitlicha Hawara" anderseits. So schmeckt selbiges dann auch.
@Siegbert855 жыл бұрын

There is a difference. In some cases a big difference. Even within Germany and Austria themselves. Look at Hamburg and Munich. Salzburg verses Innsbruck. Berlin, Vienna and Zurich. New Orleans and New York. Having lived in central Germany for 22 years and my wife and in-laws from Salzburg I have seen both sides. The southern Bavarians and much of Austria seem very close. Eastern Austria more like the Swiss. Berliners do not get a warm fuzzy, especially from older Austrians, which goes back to WWII. As many Berliners have said the Osterriecher seem slower but friendlier. Father-in-law flew for the Luftwaffe and spent time in Berlin. As for dialect it's another story. Words are different for things. Erdapfel and kartoffel. Paradeiser and tomaten. I do believe more traditions are practiced further south you go. Almabtrieb, krampus, etc. But my wife and I loved Germany and Europe. If we could afford it we would still be living there. Much better way of life and standard of living than in the US. Viel Gluck.
@kidaria13338 жыл бұрын
+elkhunter4817 Very important aspects even lots of "germans" cannot describe correctly. Most people have no deeper knowledge that in older days something like "germany" doesn't exist. Bavaria was an independent kingdom same as prussia, thurungia and all the other but formed in a union called hoyl roman empire where austria was a part of as well. And most emperors were of austrian decent. Culture and language doesn't stop at a border and the northern regions have much more in common with denmark, south bavria with austria, saarland with france,....etc. THE one german culture doesn't exists. It's nice to read that you had a good time in germany and europe :)

Austria is very beautiful but I found the Austrian people a little complicated. On one had, they seem kind of relaxed and refined. On another hand, I feel like they're somewhat full of themselves. They seem to think they're more "civilized" than they're larger German neighbors. I prefer Germans more because they're much more upfront people which I do admire. Germans in general don't think too much of Austria. In fact one German friend of mine from Stuttgart said Austrians are "silly mountain people". I guess that sort of sums up what Germans think of Austrians.
