Randy, you are so amazing and generous with your knowledge and experience! Thank you for sharing this. We have been visiting the National Parks that are within a reasonable car ride / road trip but I have often wondered about how to pack and bring camping gear along. this is perfect! For our bigGrand Teton, Yellowstone and Norhj Cascades trip last summer I invested in some camera gear and used your list as a guide. I have been having so much fun learning how to use them all. Especially the 360 camera. So much potential with that little guy! Thanks again for sharing and as always much love

Thanks so much Randy!! I always tend to overpack, so seeing your essentials so efficiently organized and packed is very helpful. Overpacking causes precious time to be wasted…during packing at home and while on the trip searching for the “whatever”. Great video! I’ve said it before, but your channel is a wealth of information that I consistently use for reference. Take care always!

Randy, Hey! Very excellent tutorial on your gear. I have been busy for awhile, going to try to catch up with all your videos from the past two months! I have been thinking of you recently as I have been reading books on Cape Cod - reminiscing about my two visits there in the 1990s. Regarding backpacking . . . if you are doing overnight hiking in the backcountry, you may want to investigate the Sawyer Squeeze water filter - small and high quality. There are accessories you need with it, including a collection bag for shallow water or an empty "Smart Water" brand water bottle. One key think - you can NOT let it freeze (so sleep and hike with it next to your body). THANK YOU FOR THE TOUR OF YOUR GEAR, . . . Mike

This is not a nitpick honest! You described your tent as Tetragon 4 but the bag is labeled Kohana 4. I noticed because I recently purchased the Kohana 4. Some reviewers of this tent reported some leakage issues. How has your experience with it been?
@AmericasParks2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad, no problem! Yeah, cranked that video out late one night before I needed to fly out early in the am. Caught that after filming. Technically it's a Kohana 4 in a Tetragon shape. We've experienced some rain with this tent.Thankfully, no issues so far.

Hi, Randy, Just watched two of your Glacier National park trips and this one on what gear you pack. All were very helpful. Jim and I are ‘gearing up’ and planning our driving trip from Georgia to Montana and wondered what time of year were you in Montana in 2014 with all of your family? It looked a bit chilly with family members in jackets. I noticed in 2018 trip with two of your daughters it was August. I know every year is different with weather conditions but generally calculating when would you say is better time of year to see the most in Glacier with least amount of crowds? Thanks, Joyce
@AmericasParks Жыл бұрын
Hi Joyce, Glacier is really a tricky park - weatherwise. In 2014, we were there after the kids finished school. I'd say very early July. Unfortunately a cold front was moving through bringing unseasonable temps and rain (for a week). Since we were camping and the whole family was together, we stayed one night and left.

@@AmericasParks Thank you, Randy! I guess we will go in June and adapt to the weather then too. We will also be camping!

I hike with a GoPro and my phone and just recently got an insta360 per your advice! I’m about to go on my first trip in 3 months with the 360 and I’m dreading having to carry the GoPro and the 360 and the iPhone al at once and kinda worried about how to have them all easily accessible. I used to just hang the GoPro around my neck from a lanyard but it just wobbled around as I walked. Do you have a solution for carrying the GoPro and 360 together while on the trails? Maybe attaching them to the backpack strap? Or do you just have them in your backpack not so easily accessible. I appreciate your help you’ve been great!
@AmericasParks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks and great set-up! I actually only use the GoPro when I'm in the car or in the water so it often does not go on the hikes. I attach my phone to my joby tripod and clamp it to my front backpack with a carabiner for easy access. The 360 cam I put in a case and attach that to my belt. If I bring my big camera it's a peak design mount on the front shoulder strap. Hope that helps!
