We raise American bresse and love them. We finish them the same way. Great homestead bird.

I'm growing corn bred just for chickens this year. It's the first time im trying it. It's supposed to have more glutathione ( I think, it's what they need for good embryos and hatching). It's called Chicken, funny enough 😂 I ordered it from Sand Hill Preservation.

The reason for corn is that it will change the flavour of the meat. So what that grain smells like is what your meat will absorb - i find that the corn soaked with milk is just fantastic.

Absolutely, with that being said Do you think what milk you are use changes the flavor as well?

This is the one video that answered ALL those questions I had about finishing off the roosters. Now I need to check around and find a resource for raw milk.... thanks again for sharing your know-how so effortlessly! If you were planning to butcher all of them in one day, do you think two to three weeks of grain-soaked milk be enough time to get the marble effect?
@breesechick
@breesechick Жыл бұрын
The people that imported from France said to feed them soaked Grains in raw milk for 3 to 4 weeks for the best effect.

Just curious, why only 2 weeks before butchering? Does it really make that much of a difference in Two weeks time? Have you tried not giving them milk at all, or giving them milk the whole time?
@The.Recreational.Homestead
@The.Recreational.Homestead 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, 2 weeks is just a minimum I found in my research and it does make a big difference in the amount of fat they have. I have not tried giving them milk the whole time, for me I pick out my breeding stock at 14 week and I would not want all that fat in my breeding stock. But that would be fun to play with

That’s good to know, did you feed milk at the end or just free range on normal feed?
@breesechick
@breesechick Жыл бұрын
You have to feed them corn soaked in raw milk for 3 to 4 weeks to get the marbling and the flavor. The European way of small confined area with milk soaked grains is what you were looking for.
