How does it handle a power outage? I've been running a CloudKey for some years and we always had to recover from a backup whenever it got disconnected from power without gracefully shutting down first. I hope this issue has been fixed in the Cloud Gateway Ultra, but I cannot find any info about it yet.

Good question. I have never personally had an issue with a cloud key, but what I can say with the Cloud Gateway and the Unifi Express that we tested, we pulled the power out regularly and the device restarted without loosing any config. I hope this helps.

Awesome video! May I give you a suggestion? When testing Multi-WAN Routers, avoid pulling the cable that connects your GW to those ISP routers/modems. When you pull the cable, you're causing an interruption at the Layer-1 which will be very easy for any device to detect (And this isn't a reality from an outage perspective). The easiest way to validate this test and really see how long the gateway takes to commute between WAN Connections would be, interrupting the uplink from those ISP Routers/Modems to the ISP itself, I mean, pulling the WAN cable/fiber from those devices. With that your maintaining your Layer 1 and 2 connectivity and your GW will need to detect it using Layer 3 or anything above that. As per my understanding, this device uses an Echo Server from Ubiquiti to validate the link connection but I can't see more information about how frequently this synthetic monitoring occurs and if this is configurable or not. TL;DR: If your multi-WAN uses Layer 3/4 monitoring to detect outages you should test forcing them to work on that level once Layer 1/2 doesn't represent the reality and will be too easy to detect. Hope it helps! Thanks for your content.

Thanks for your comments. In my instance the ISP connections were those two cables as they are then upstreamed to the rest of the network. I could not remove the physical network connection to the ISP for that network as it is on an SDWAN and will just self heal. I will see if I can work a better way of doing this by maybe swwapping the VLAN out or sending it a NULL route and record the results in due course. Again thanks for your input.

pardon my ignorance, but do I need a dual WAN modem to plug the WAN from the router to UCGU's WAN for it to work? At the moment my ISP has provided a giga speed modem but it only has one WAN and when i plug LAN to the UCGU WAN, the 200mps drops to 9mbpds. What am I doing wrong?
@The_Tech_Geeks2 ай бұрын
This sounds like you may have an issue with the Duplex of your switch port, or something on the UCG-Ultra not playing correctly with your ISPs router. If you are presented with an RJ45 connection from your ISP then you may not need the Giga speed model at all and you can plug the UCG-Ultra directly in. If you need to keep the router, then I would suggest you do the following. 1. Connect a computer to the port of the Giga Speed modem that you are testing and run a speed test. If you get 9Mb/s then you know it is an issue with that modem or its setup. 2. If when you have done the above you get a good speed, then it is most likely the port speed on your UCG-Ultra that has the issue. First make sure you have a local user set in the UCG-Ultra and log in locally to the device on its LAN. Go to the internet settings and I think it is under manual for the port, you can change and try 1000 Full Duplex. This will force the UCG-Ultra to use a 1Gb/s port speed this may then fix your issue.

There's not much progress so far as the family is trying to use the internet, but it´s unclear what you should do at what stage. I want to transfer all the network config from the CG2+ to the CGU, but it´s not playing ball so far. I have a feeling that this will be one step forward, two back for a while...

Good question. This is one fo the replacements. If you already have a cloud controller then the UXG-Lite or UXG-Max are probably more direct replacements. If you are wanting to upgrade the controller as well, then the Ultra is a good option. To migrate the config you can do that from your current cloud controller. I enjoyed looking at your video. I’ve just bought a few unify devices and I did have a quick question in regards to configuring a small Home network which includes a UCGU and a Ux . I’m using the EXPRESS as a Wi-Fi access point to various devices and an addition I’m using the cloud gateway ultra to provide access for some hardwired devices. My question is this as far as plugging in the WAN cable isconcerned, should i be plugging it into the back of the ultraor or can it simply go into the back of the Express? logic would seem to dictate that by putting it into the back of the gateway the security will be implemented on the adjacent Wan port. However, if what would happen if I plugged the WAN cable into the WAN port on the UX instead.?
@The_Tech_Geeks3 ай бұрын
Good question. Your WAN (ie your internet) should be plugged in to the WAN port of the device you are using as the router / gateway for your network. In your setup I would expect you to plug the WAN of the UCG-Ultra in to your internet connection. If your UX is being hardwired to your UCG-Ultra then again the WAN port of the UX should connect to one of the LAN ports of your UCG-Ultra. I hope this helps.

Great video. Helped loads. I have a question that maybe you can help with. If I add the cloud gateway ultra to an existing Unifi network (currently managed by cloud keygen 2) and the existing network router is supplying 192.168.0.1 to 254 the cloud gateway defaults to .1.1. Do I need to readopt every single AP and device (there's about 20 across the units). They seem to take up a .1.x IP but adoption always fails. Any ideas? Is it a reset for each one?? I Hope not!
@The_Tech_Geeks2 ай бұрын
Good question. In your setup since you already have a router running, it is important that in the network setup of your UCG-Ultra that you turn off DHCP on the LAN and statically assign it an IP in the 192.168.0.1 range (you should block that IP out in your router so it can't be assigned to anything else) Once DHCP is turned off on your UCG-Ultra then your router will be back in control of the network. At this point you have two options. 1. If you are taking the Cloud Key out of the network, I would migrate the config to the UCG-Ultra and make sure the UCG-Ultra takes over the IP that the Cloud Key was on. This should mean all Ubiquiti APs and devices, will auto adopt back to the new controller. 2. If you are leaving the Cloud Key in the network, then once you have made the IP changes to the UCG-Ultra you will need to factory reset each access point and then adopt to the new controller. I hope this helps further.
@DuncLowe-l8b2 ай бұрын
@@The_Tech_Geeks that’s great thanks. Just to clarify that if I remove the key gen and replace with cloud gateway (and upload config to ultra) I shouldn’t need to reset each AP ? Can’t see a value keeping key gen.
@The_Tech_Geeks2 ай бұрын
Correct, if you migrate the config the APs should join the new controller as long as it was set up with all the previous controllers details.

Can someone please explain how to connect UCG to Telstra Modem/Router 3 , because my home set up is NBN RJ45 cable is connected to Telstra Modem 3 WAN port. Thanks in Advance🙏🙏🙏🇦🇺
@The_Tech_GeeksАй бұрын
Hi, I believe we chatted on the phone, but just for completeness sake.... In the instance of Telstra NBN, then you need to first check if you ahve a standard house phone connected to the telstra router. If you do, then we can't remove that from the setup. So as a result I woudl do the following. 1. Change the LAN IP range of the Teltra Router (but default it will probably be on 192.168.1.xxx which is the same IP range on the UCG's so they will loook like they are not working when you first connect if you don't make this change. Change it to something like 192.168.15.xxx 2. Connect one of the spare LAN ports of the Telstra Router to the WAN port of the UCG 3. If you have wireless that is going to be managed and provided by the UCG, then I would suggest in the Telstra router turning off wireless. I hope this helps.

Can you turn off the router feature and just keep the cloud key features?
@The_Tech_Geeks4 ай бұрын
Yes, it is a little messy but possible. You will need to give the device an IP address and make sure you turn off DHCP. Your current router will then continue to give out IP addresses and the UCG-Ultra will at as a cloud controller only. The only issue you may have is getting updates to the system, which normally needs the WAN port connected with a valid IP. Depending on what your current router can do, you could add a seperate LAN network IP range just for the WAN of the UCG-Ultra and then it would work as intended. I hope this helps.
