Many of you are discovering that your tie rod dust boot or ball joint dust boot has rotted away or even split. As a solution, Energy Suspension offers several universal polyurethane dust boots to replace these on your vehicle. You will need to measure three points on your existing joint in order to choose the right boot. Measure the diameter of the base, the diameter of the Pin or Stud, and the height of the boot. With this information you can visit our Universal Dust Boot page to find a part number that you can use to replace your OE boots.

The ball joints you have there do not have a factory spacer as Toyotas have. Is it safe to remove that spacer or should I exchange the boots for a deeper boot. Im dealing with an 01 Tacoma 4x4 and I spent $1000 in parts. I just dont wanna use their rubber dust boots.

Take a string, measure circumference and divide by 3.14. Convert to mm. Close enough to get the right one.

thanks for the tech information. Do these still require the out shims that hold the boot in place or just applied by themselves?

Sorry..outer shim retainer rings; not out shims (typo).

Hi! Great question! Energy Suspension has designed their universal dust boots to be used without retainer rings. These poly boots will fit snug over your ball joint or tie rod without the need of a ring holding it in place.

I need to change the Lower Control Arm boot on our Saturn, not on TR. That boot is rather specific in it's shape, it is very tiny and almost plane. I tried to find smth. similar, but nothing of that shape, even bought LC Arm bushing, but the set didn't have that piece either. Can I put a taller and thicker boot instead of the original one, similar to the one you used on Outer TR? Or it is better to keep the old one? I'm thinking maybe to make that boot from the gasket maker, or it is not advisable? The original boot (or better say cover) is not torn or anything, but just old, some fringing on its sides. I do something else on that car and the castle nut was removed, everything is disconnected. I wanted to put everything new, but can't find that boot (looks like a hat). Thank you.

I don't own a micrometer is that the only way of measuring the parts. I went online and looked in universal parts jus like the video said and I couldn't find anything about ball joints I only found tie rods.

+Vicente Corona We do not have a brick and mortar store front, so we would not be able to assist you with that. However, if you have questions about this video, and where you need to measure, let me know where your concern comes in to place, and I will see what I can do to assist you further so that we can make sure you find the right part.

Do you have to remove the ball joint (press it out) from the vehicle to replace the boot?
@EnergySuspension
@EnergySuspension 7 жыл бұрын
Hey D Cavalli, Thanks for the great question! You shouldn't have to take take the control arm complete off. Really it's just getting some of the pressure off the ball joint in general. Many times with the lower control arm you can just loosen up the nut on the ball joint and relieve the the pressure off the boot and grab measurements that way. the same can work for the upper arm would just need to have the vehicle on jacks so gravity could pull the knuckle from the ball joint. Essentially is just loosing the nut on the ball joint to the knuckle. You should not have to press out the ball joint to get your measurements.

Are they for upper ball joints on the control arm to or just lower ball joints
@EnergySuspension
@EnergySuspension 10 жыл бұрын
Hello Nigel! Thanks for the question. Many customers ask this question so it will be great having the answer here in the comments. Energy Suspension's Dust Boots are designed to work with Upper Ball Joints, Lower Ball Joints, Tie Rod End Joints and any other joint you can think of, as long as the measurements match. So if the measurements off the upper control arm ball joint of your vehicle match any of the dimensions on this page then they should work just fine: tinyurl.com/ya2kedr

Nigel Roque Sure can! On the page with the chart, look at the 3rd column labeled "Included in Set." This section has all of the part numbers of the dust boots. The numbers are hyperlinks so if you click on the one you need it will take you to page with the price. Sorry to hear about the control arm troubles. Those tiny little dust boots are pretty important and unfortunately people aren't aware that just the boots can be replaced. Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!

If you give our customer service team a call at 888-406-2330, we would love to help you find the correct size dust boots you need for your Audi.

Best to measure the joint. You need to remove it from the spindle anyway, and the old boot may have disintegrated from age.

Here is a solution I have for anybody and everybody who wants to replace a boot for their tie rod or ball joint buy a new fucking ball joint or tie rod don't be so damn cheap if the boot is fucked what do you think's been happening with all that dirt just getting in there and wearing it out what's the point in replacing the boots

I bought a new set of end links, sway links, and tie rods. All with the greaseable fitting. But all of them use rubber. I'm gonna replace them with polyurethane. You ever thought about that? That there are people who are using these on new parts? I even have polyurethane bushings on the sway bars and the control arms. They feel way snappier than rubber. You are a judgmental dinosaur. Riddled with prejudice, stubbornness, assumptions, and hubris. Think outside the box. Or expire like the 1930s Ford Roadster you are. But you're the person who would throw away something due to a tiny flaw. Faded paint on your house? Buy new house. Crack in windshield? Buy new car. Wife is getting old? Get new wife. Gonna transplant your brain into a young body? Ain't happening.
