I love to watch this kind of videos which give more common ways of speaking and understanding others, and in my view it is good to learn many more ways cause besides using them in speaking we would understand how to response to others. Thanks for making this video 😊

Yes ma'am, you are right about other videos saying don't say thank you. Thank you so much!! For clearing the confusion of using other forms of thank you and all. It is only important to know the most commonly used forms to live in any place.

Glad it was helpful! 😊 It can be useful to know a couple of other ways to say things, especially for understanding what people say, but as I said in the video, it's probably not so important. I recommend spending valuable time learning phrasal verbs and other tricky things that we use all the time.

You're very welcome! I agree. The simple ways are effective and easy to remember, and they give you more time to focus on other things that you want to learn. Where are you from in Poland? I used to live in the Czech Republic and visited Southern Poland twice. Also, my grandmother's mother immigrated from there. My grandmother was very proud to be Polish 😊

I have a frustrating experience. Not knowing where to begin or hitting a plateau can feel demoralizing and make it hard to hit the books and study like you know you should…Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.

I totally agree with you. I had already come to that conclusion. I've been watching that same patern in the most of You tubers I follow, they have fallen off into that trend of labeling their videos as "don't say this, don't say that. Stop saying this, stop saying that", and I just mean, if we stop using those words and statements, English will become a sign language. Hahahahah just kidding, thanks for your videos, have a good one!!! PD: I know who you are talking about, I also follow that girl (russian girl actually), she is amazing, I've learnt a lot from her!!!

Hi Eusebio, Thanks for your input. You are right, she is amazing, definitely a natural in front of the camera!. I noticed, however, in the "Don't say 'Happy birthday'" video that she suggested "Happy Level Up Day," which I've never heard before. If an English learner used that phrase, I would be confused and would wonder why that person felt the need to say something obscure when everyone just says "Happy birthday." 😊 That's what made me think about this topic. Your English seems to be excellent. I'd love to know where you're from and a little bit about your English learning journey! 😊

@@LearnAcademicEnglish hi, I'm from Colombia, Medellín city exactly. Have you ever heard about this city? I hope you have. I've been learning English from you tube channels, this past september I got to my sixth year in a row learning from them. I started learning from spanish speaker teachers who teach English on You Tube, but after some time, one year or so, of being learning from them, I felt like I needed to get to the next level, so I decided to challenge myself and started learning English from native English speakers' You tube channels only. However, I've found any other channels like the girl's channel we just mentioned in the comment right above, even though she's not a native English speaker she does a great job, so I changed my mindset and now I find that learning from people from different cultures and countries is worth it as well. I haven't mentioned that I follow you tubers from each one of the most respresentatives English speaking countries such as the US 🇺🇸 (my favorite one), the UK 🇬🇧, Canada 🇨🇦 and finally Australia 🇭🇲, since I'm aware they are quite different from each other. If you have any other question just let me know. I'll be so pleased of exchanging thoughts with you. See ya!!!

@@LearnAcademicEnglish @Learn Academic English no way! I can't believe your stepdad was born here, you should come to Colombia next to him and visit my city someday. It's something curious, but I just love learning English, I learn English just for the sake of it. I could say my main goal is to understand native English speakers, being understood by them and if I had the chance to meet any of them here in my city, I'd love to have a nice conversation and maybe get a couple of beers with them I also like watching movies, tv shows and lots of videos here on You Tube from allover the world. I haven't thought seriously about traveling or moving to a foraing country yet, but I'd be open to do it, that'd be such an amazing adventure for me, I could even put down into practice everything I've learned about English so far. How about you? Tell me more about yourself!!!

I've heard that there's a pretty large expat community of Americans in Medellin. Maybe you will have some chances to practice your English with them! I agree that learning English is a worthy goal in part because of the movies and TV shows that you can watch in English. Thanks Jenna. Yes, I don’t like those clickbaity videos either! There’s no harm in learning different ways of communicating something, but those videos only focus on bringing up too many ways without explaining their nuances. Well, sorry to whoever makes such videos, I don’t always feel like saying everyday phrases using your poetic ostentatious ways! One more thing, dear Jenna. Please bear with me. I know there might be a debate on this, but I’d like to know what you think. Is “Belated Happy Birthday” or “Happy Belated Birthday” the more correct way to say it?

I think my concern about those videos is the thumbnail picture with big letters X DON'T SAY because that could make English learners feel confused or embarrassed. And as you said, when presented with a list of different ways to say something without context or the nuances, we don't know how to use those other expressions. To answer your question, I have not noticed people saying "Belated Happy Birthday" here in the U.S. I always see and use "Happy Belated Birthday."

@@LearnAcademicEnglish The funny thing is, there’s an article on Grammarly stating that, even though “Happy Belated Birthday” is more common, the correct way to say it is “Belated Happy Birthday”! You may have a look at the article and see if it makes any sense to you. Tbh, I no longer trust Grammarly. I tried their free tool a couple of years ago and didn’t like it. Now, you’re my reference! 😊
