Sure, but a lot of it is from burning more than you’re consuming - not purposely starving yourself. Those girls go and go all day long. Purposely declining to eat isn’t as common as you think. Not prioritizing eating is.

yeah I am very thin, (5'8, 111 pounds) have been underweight my whole life except when I was a baby and I eat whatever and have a very hard time gaining weight. I think a lot of it has to do with genetics and metabolism because my entire family is very thin. My dad is like 6'1 and 155 or 160 pounds and he is 51!

Just so you know, a lot of models don't eat that much before a show, sometimes for a few days they will just drink smoothies, it doesn't mean they are insecure or have eds, it's just what is sometimes required. Models rarely stay as thin as they are for runway throughout the year.

I think they're referring to the fact that they're constantly working and travelling to the point of not being able to take some time off to eat properly (proper food, instead of sandwiches, all the time). Models are very busy people. I'm sure there ARE a few models who starve themselves, sadly. But not all models do that, because modelling requires tons of energy, something you won't get if you're not eating enough.

I think it’s iteresting how people with fascinations with eating disorders think that the sufferer is completely awar and cognizant and is holding a secret that she’s hoping not to be accused of. Furthermore anorexia is a form of anxiety and depression, not calorie restriction. Calorie restriction can be unhealthy but is not the eating disorder we all think it is. It does not inclue social deprivation, isolation, impulsivity, lack of motivation, flat personality. Sheer loss of impetus to thrive. People who stop eating have lost will to live. It is beyond depressing and devastating. Calorie restriction Can be physically detrimental but it is not anorexia.

Do you know how anorexia works? It isn't a disease, you can't catch it. It doesn't start out as a weight disorder at all. Anorexia starts because a person is under a lot of emotional stress, and therefore desire some form of control over their life, so they begin to change and restrict their diets, which then effects their weight. Anorexia isn't a physical thing, it's a mental thing that effects the body physically.

are you sure they're happy?? Man, I've seen so many cases of models, actresses and singers that are all smiles when they're on the camera, but they cry when they are with people they trust. My best friend danced ballet and she ate broccoli all day. She said she was happy but she was always talking about food and she had crazy moments in which she would eat so much and then she cried. There are a lot of anorexia cases among models, dancers and actresses.

I can't say with other models, but Cara and Jourdan have ALWAYS been skinny since they were very young way back before becoming a model. I know 'cause I've been following their career for as long as I can remember. They just have a very high metabolism and these two girls are very hyper and physically active. In fact, Karlie shared one time in a cooking video that she went to surprise Jourdan at 2 am in the latter's house and she caught Jourdan cooking FRIED CHICKEN with her pajamas on. Lol So people assume they don't eat but the truth is SOME of these girls are just too high that the food they eat can't easily make them look fat. Plus of course it is a known fact that they also workout.

My younger sister is extremely thin yet she's the one who eats the most and near all of it is high-caloric and junk. It's almost sad to see because I wish my body worked like that as well haha.

There is naturally thin and there is the kind of body fashion models are expected to have. I have never seen anyone that thin unless they restrict calories or have some kind of illness that prevents them from digesting or preparing enough food for a period of time. When I was that thin as a teenager, it was because I had untreated mental health problems that meant I didn't have the energy to cook and eat three times a day. I am still naturally thin, but when I'm healthy, I'm not missing periods. You can't count my ribs. I don't faint a little when I stand up. I have boobs and a butt because I am a 22-year-old woman and we are meant to grow. A difference in metabolism does NOT account for that much of a weight difference.

Emily M I hope you stay that way. It's one thing to be naturally thin, but it's another to look gaunt and starved. I myself am skinny, but if someone has skin hanging from their bones, they are not naturally thin. They are starving. They are dying. I have to disagree with you. I think most models suffer from addictions and eating disorders, but there are a few that are healthy and naturally thin- not a walking skeleton. Thin people have curves, too. They don't have protruding bones throughout their body, not pale, and gaunt. They are not malnourished. Giselle is thin, but she has curves. But she is also not "naturally" thin. She has to work hard for her body. Have you seen her twin sister? You have to eat, not starve to be healthy. Food gives you energy that you then burn off- not excessively, but enough to have lean muscle and curves. That is a woman's figure. If you were to check most of the models' vital signs, they would be very sick. It's sad to see starved women walk down the catwalk. Yes, I think that models should be lean, as they are supposed to represent a hanger in order to show case the apparel and not the model, but women that are just bones should not be on a catwalk; They should be seeking psychiatric help. It is not sane to look like death. Not even makeup can cover up the agony that most of these women live in all in the name of what? Fashion? Fashion is something we all visualize for ourselves. It shouldn't be what some 50 year old designer guy determines it is. The fashion industry is a dark world. Ill people should not be walking the runways. Too many have died. Literally, even on the runway. Sorry, for the long response. It's just a sad ordeal. I really wish you success and health above all. :)

Some might be naturally skinny but starve themselves to get even more skinny. But I always find it fun when a model is seen with a cupcake and people are like"she wont eat that".Like even if you are just 50kilos you need to eat about 1500 calories to stay that weight. Like george39821 said, these girls are constantly busy and when they're on set they pretty much dont have any other choice but to eat what food they have there. Like that one model said, she would like a hamburger but fruit is good too, meaning since there is really no way for her to get a hamburger during that time fruit will do...although I do agree that the pressure put on models to be thin is scary but then again they are starting to promote 'health is beauty' so i'm sure it'll get better :)

It is time people understand that just because someone decides not to put trash food into their bodies and eat well and balanced and yes, reach a figure that many consider "too skinny, doesn't make them: obsessive nor sick. If these models were underweight in an unhealthy way, they could not manage to walk around all day and function as a real model does... so people stop hating on skinny people, it's just as ridiculous as racism or sexism.
