This was great, thanks, I have been researching "what is a digital piano vs keyboard?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Danilliam Illustrious Dominance - (do a google search ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to learning piano fast without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my buddy got excellent success with it.

On my piano the middle pedal can be shifted to stay down and it makes things quieter. I never knew what my far left pedal was for. Years of lessons and no one ever told me!! Thank you!

If your piano is an upright one, that might be the practice pedal. Usually it is the practice pedal if you can lock in the down position.

You are an amazing instructor. I am 62 and want to use of my time efficiently. I came to the right place. I just started to learn piano more than two weeks ago ( no previous music background what so ever ). I try to establish good habit from the beginning and utilize the advices you gave on how to practice, daily routines, etc. Thanks so much. Technology and good instruction is a marriage in heaven for learning!,

really useful to hear this explained so straightforwardly, lots of videos on pedalling just talk about how to pedal, and don't really explain why to pedal. The musical examples were really helpful in showing the sound difference between pedalling and not pedalling.

Omg i never knew what that middle pedal was for, haha! So obscure! I use the sustain a lot, and I use the left one if I want to practice without blasting out to the rest of my family too much (open floor plan).

Fascinating, especially the left pedal, however, what if you can't use the pedals at all, can you get the same effect another way? I can't use them due to disability, I'm a wheelchair user and have paralysed lower limbs. I passed grade 7 as a teenager over 30 years ago without any use of the pedals. I am never going to be a concert pianist.

Well, I learned what the sostenuto pedal does and how the others actually work, AND that I think I’ve been playing a note wrong in Für Elise for the past 17 years. 🤣 What the heck! Edit: Ok, no in my book, instead of D, C, B, A at the end of the first repeat, I have E, C, B, A. Your way sounds better though, imo. lol

The left pedal, does it sustain as well or just softer sound production?
@SharonsStuff1
@SharonsStuff1 8 ай бұрын
My middle pedal acts as a sustain pedal for the bass from bass E downward. I preciously had a very old piano in which the middle and left pedals softened the notes in two different ways. One of them dropped a strip of felt down between the hammers and the strings and the other shifted the entire keyboard just slightly so that the hammers would hit only two of the three strings for each note. The middle pedal is always a mystery to me because I've seen it do so many different things on different pianos.

The middle pedal like you have mentioned is sort of like a reverb pedal that allows the higher notes to sympathetically ring the low strings so it sounds like an echo in space!! At least that is what I've used it for. I know they do different things on different piano, usually sostenuto on grand pianos, and that reverb echo effect on smaller uprights. 😇
@wailingalen
@wailingalen 5 ай бұрын
Ok so I just looked it up and on older uprights the middle pedal has a few names. False sostenuto, bass sostenuto. I don't remember if it was my piano teacher showing me or me discovering it's different functions on different pianos as an inquisitive youngster, but I do remember those notes being played in the middle and higher registers ringing like an auditorium!!

I have an interesting fact to share and ask. For my piano, the middle pedal makes the notes go a lot more silent. Is that a normal thing or is my piano too old? (It's estimated 50 years old) Or special design? I don't know lol Also, the left one doesn't work at all. Doesn't move anything.

Dear Jazer Lee. Im from Denmark 70 years old, I have the problem I can,t remember the music I had Lear after I had a stroke. I think I have seam a lot of your videos her on KZbin, and you where saying, I shall look at the node and not the piano. When I do that, the connection is very slow, how long time is it take, to play after note, so I can enjour the classic musik I will learn to play. I can play all the 12 major and minor chords + 7 chords
