The real difference seems to be that Ukraine troops have been training under NATO forces since 2014, they are being trained in several countries even now. Russia otoh has apparently sent it's training units to the front as part of the operation. Meanwhile Ukraine mobilized 7-8 months ago and has had 7-8 months to properly equip and train troops in western warfare tactics. Russia is now attempting to do this in weeks, without their main professional training corps. Putin badly underestimated the Ukraine military and more importantly badly overestimated his own military competence and effectiveness.

Ukraine has been training for this for the past 8 years, using the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics as one of those training grounds. Armed and trained since 2015 by NATO as confirmed by Poroshenko in 2021. Most of those 'elite forces" have already been wiped out. New recruits include men over 65 ffs! Conscripted women have been rounded up by desperate Ukraine. They're all gonna die.

the real issue is Ukrainians are not Russian and have never been Russian.... Stalin complained how Ukrainians refused to submit... Russians are cowards never will they ever stand up to their criminal government. Ukrainians seek freedom... and are willing to die for it. We saws this at Maidan... Russians even fear being arrested... it is a lie that Ukrainians have been close to Russians... never... Stalin murdered from 4 million to 10 million Ukrainians during the Holodomor years. Give a Russia a loaf of bread and they will be quiet.... stop grouping Ukrainians with these cowards.

I'm really adoring Snyder's works, he has amazing insight into the dynamics here. I think things will begin to move very quicky inside Russia at some point. Putin broke this contract between the Kremlin and the people that existed since WW2, that if they just shut up and obey, their lives will be untouched and peaceful. He's coming for their lives, so I think after some time they'll be coming for his. They're already going against one another, blaming each others, pundits like Solovyov, milbloggers and propagandists like Strelkov, Kadyrovites, military, FSB, they're all beginning to play the blame game now.

Farida is wonderful, it's great to get reminded that there are genuine Russians who are "going along" due to learned helplessness. We all can relate to that! My question is: Is Putin unable to NOT go to war because it is demanded by his role as "Czar" to protect the east from the invading westerners? He has a horror of looking like a "compromising" loser like Gorbachov. In this mindset , as long as he follows the prescription it will naturally turn out right? Defeat is unthinkable, preference for the "scorched earth" scenario opens the door to contemplation of nuclear war? Thanks for reading my rant, I'm worried!

The UN's major weakness is that Russia has a veto. This makes that system impotent, much like Leage Of Nations. When the next form of UN is iterated. There needs to be a stipulation that any belligerent nation on the council proven to be the aggressor succeeds said Veto.

Sadly, the UN has become corrupted and now is more trouble than its worth, not only in relation to military aggression aspects, but it’s support of the plethora of blatant misinformation promoting the the human component of the climate change / global warming scam, not to mention the disastrous approach to COVID-19 etc. Too much coincidence with the goals of the WEF, Gates, and the like - IMHO

I used to think American foreign policy was evil, (still do), but I always believed American foreign policy didn't reflect true American values. I'm wrestling with that and am currently undecided but getting close to changing my mind. In 1994 Tonya Harding (American figure skater) destroyed (broke her knee) Nancy Kerrigan because she couldn't win fairly. Was that an anomaly or is that how most Americans compete? That's exactly what America is doing with Russia, Europe, China, and virtually every small country they deal with. If America can't compete, it destroys. Everybody knows it and they silently support it. Remember when Pompeo bragged at a Texas A&M university that the CIA "we lie, we steal, we cheat,' ? Well that's not really news but what I found scary was how the entire audience laughed and applauded. Americans seem to support cheating and lying and destroying anyone who might succeed. Americans stopped their government in the Vietnam war. Why have Americans not stopped their government from the continuous regime change, invasions, sanctions, and proxy wars that kill and impoverish people every day? So either America is not a democracy or the majority of Americans are as evil as the CIA and their foreign policy.
