I've been following the Slabs and Slabbers here on KZbin for years ..... and my heart is so into them and so into that place 💙💜💕❤🧡💛💚💖 ..... and after all these years of my sincere heart and soul being extended, I recently had only ONE person verbally harass the crap out of me .... stalk me and absolutely try to stir up terrible RUBBISH, and trouble ----- simply because I'm subscribed to someone he doesn't like. It's crazy, I've only had this one person who seems to hate me. I still have gifts in the back of my van for people when I can get out to the Slabs... ❤❤❤❤❤

I just found out this incredible place exists from a new friend that comes often. It’s so inspiring to know there really is a place for everyone, to be who they are, and celebrated for that. Well, over the last few days, I've looked at about a dozen videos related to Slab City. The first one I saw completely left me with a bad impression because I saw kids, and I still say this place is not a place for kids, not as a permanent place. It would be ok for someone to take their kid for a day, if an approved age, to expose the child to the different sides of life and maybe even as a lesson to show them that perhaps they should feel lucky that they have a roof over their head, a computer, cell phone, video games, hot food on their plate etc. In the first video I saw, there was also this teen that called himself "Zack" and that was annoying with his pseudo macho BS talking fighting this person that person and another kid who was about 14 that looked completely lost and depressed and talked about wanting to join the military just so he could hear the sound of warfare, like his video games but live and in person. But I'm the type of person not to form an opinion on People, Places or Things without trying to get all sides. Even after watching these dozen or so videos, I know I would have to go myself and experience it before I can make a final determination. And then really, why would my opinion count to anyone bur myself? I have hitchhiked across this country right after I graduated HS in 1982, when it was still possible to Hitch just by sticking your thumb out. I hitched from Wash D.C. to San Francisco and back. I did this 3 times. Also took Amtrak, Trailways, Greyhound and my motorcycle back and forth as well. I either stayed in cheap motels or Youth Hostels or even couch-surfed with strangers. I've met people from all walks of life. Mostly good people, a few not so good and a couple that were worse than bad. The trick is to cut out at the first sign of ANYTHING that hit my instinct the wrong way, to never second-guess myself and tell myself to just wait and "see how it goes". No. I would split, and if I was wrong, oh well. In my life, I have had dinner at the Kennedy Center with the King of Spain and I have shared wine in a paper bag with a guy booting heroin in an alley in San Francisco. And I have figured out that no one is better than no one. We're all full of our own hopes and dreams. And it appears that Slab City is where people's Babylon Dreams come to an end and a different type of reality, dreams begin. I used to ride my old beat up motorcycle from San Diego to Salton Sea on some weekends whenever I was fed up with the usual crap or people thar surrounded me. This was maybe from around 2000-2009. I loved the ride. I really liked the nostalgic feel of "Good Days Gone By" in the Salton Sea area and would always stop and smoke a J at this same old abandoned gas station. Just riding for miles and miles on these desolate desert roads rarely seeing a car and often I would throttle the bike and red-line it and scream at the top of my lungs, releasing the poison from my soul thar others have put there. One time, I forget where I was riding, I believe somewhere around Bombay, enjoying a nice buzz on a nice afternoon on my beat up BMW motorcycle and all of a sudden up ahead a checkpoint with one person and it looked like it wasn't a permanent one. I pulled up to the Border Patrol gut and asked (jokingly) if I mistakenly rode into Mexico. This dude was an ass, asking me where I have been and where am I going. I got a little pissy and this time asked if I was still in the United States. He said yes ad I told him then it shouldn't matter where I've been and where I'm going, because this is a free country. My tags are good, I'm wearing a helmet per California law, I wasn't speeding and I was nowhere near the Mexican border! This dude was a major dick and wanted to see my license etc and then he wanted to search my saddlebags on my bike. I didn't have anything illegal but I said no. Then he said since I refused, he could keep me there until a drug dog came as sniffed my bike. I told him cool, I'll wait. He let me go. What an ass. I did have 2 joints in my cigarette pack though...... 😂 Anyway, to each their own. Enjoy Slab City and don't be a dick to anyone, but the Border Patrol 😂

@PlanTonto unfortunately, both of the people you mentioned from slabs have passed away. Zack was epileptic and had a seizure while in the hot springs and passed. I have his ashes in one of my tattoos. He became a hell of a guy. And Phillip, the other boy you mentioned, with a lazy eye, passed away a few weeks ago from the heat. Keep in mind, that documentary was filmed about 10 years ago. I remember when they were filming. Safe travels out there.
