@Charles Chandler I am not from ugsnds but I will speak in general. 1. You have a contract were u separate assets. What the man has is his and what the women have is hers before and after marriage .But that contract is never chosen by Africans. Rarely. 2.Then you have the contract where what the man and the woman have before marriage belongs to each of them. And whatever they acquire during the marriage belongs to both of them. That also is not really taken 3. Marriage where what the man and the woman have before marriage and after marriage belongs to both of them. That's what most Africans from my country choose. Of course most of the time the man brings more to the table. Those contracts are presented and sign only if u do a court or legal wedding. In some countries like Cameroon they will also ask u and the wife if u choose a monogamist or polygamist marriage. Now the reality on ground in most African countries, when a man wants to divorce u, a lot will tell the woman to leave their house since they paid for everything and the kids will stay with the father. It's rare that the woman gets the house and the man leaves. And in general the kids stay with the father even if he gets remarried because the children belongs to the family side of the father. If the kids are too small they will csn stay with the mom and the father will still take care of them When the divorced reached the court i never seen a woman getting half of the assets even tho the marriage contract says she can get half of it. She will get something but never half The africsn society made it that the woman doesn't win in those kind of situation. But it depends

@Jeffery Jones you can have only one legal wife. By legal wife I mean the one u marry in court. Only cameroun and Kenya I think u can marry more than one wife in court. But yes you can marry traditionally more than one woman mostly everywhere in africa. Just make sure that before being serious with a woman you tell her that you are into polygamy because a lot of African women are not into it. Am talking about the non muslims

Ugandan here living in the States..Much as hypergamy comes natural to women and they prefer a man who provides, Ugandan women have way lower standards compared to American women. Im speaking from experience. It's all in the culture which feminism has destroyed in America and slowly starting to corrupt culture in Africa. The independence of women is being used as "i don't need a man" while in most African societies submission and a man's role is key to a woman's well-being. Of course you will find outliers of women in Uganda who ask what you drive before even giving you their number but such is life. Thanks Oshay for putting my country to the world 🇺🇬🇺🇬✊🏾

These men now days act like women! So do the women suppose to also help the man protect the house if an intruder come in? Do he expect her to help him fight off armed criminals in the event of an attack? Do she need to help him change the car tire and do home repairs also? It's so dam embarrassing for a man to expect his woman to help him financially.

If you marry a Ugandan woman, pretty much any woman from Africa, you WILL be taking care of her parents and family. The women are encouraged to marry older men, as they are considered to be settled and established. I'm 48, and average age that I pulled was 27. I was talking on the romantic level to one who was 27, had 7 younger siblings, her parents were my age, she had a child. I did some maths, and decided that I would have to work long after I died, because she will want to take care of all of her family, and they will always have money issues, as she will be considered wealthy, since she married an American. They think all Americans are rich. The cultural differences are many. You bring one here from overseas, you are responsible for her. If she leaves you and gets any assistance, you will have to repay the government. You sign that agreement when you apply for the spousal visa. Do your homework. I did, and decided that I'll date in the States. It's too much a risk. Is she in love with you, or in love with being an American citizen? I'll answer it for you. American citizen. Can't blame them. How many women in the history of mankind married to change their economic status? A very lot. Lol.

I feel like this thing is being totally missunderstood. I need to come out in my sister's defence. In all cultures women expect a signal from potential male partners that shows them that the man is commited, capable and willing to support her. The signal in all cultures is linked to what represents security to the woman of that culture. In general in cultures which have achieved a high level of financial security the signal the woman would look for may be more linked to physical or emotional security, status or even the quality of the offsprings genes. In the USA the top athlete may be preferred in some countries the kid from the prestigious family etc etc. In Uganda It's not just about money. It's more about the willingness and ability of a man to provide a secure and prosperous home, because our women are limited in their ability to do that both by culture and by economic circumstances. So, after attraction, they will always be looking for signs that you are focussed, hardworking, responsible and willing to support and provide. That's what gives them a sense of security. It's about character. Hence they won't always look for the richest man, but rather the one who shows the character described above. Should you want to get married, their family will expect you to make a gesture that shows the the same character in the form of a dowery. In the west you show this via a diamond ring and other things. In return they will be loyal, commited, supportive, generous in body, mind and spirit and always seek your leadership. It's not good or bad, right or wrong its culture.
@CharlieDmus
@CharlieDmus 4 жыл бұрын
Just two more things. 1. These are not demands they are just symbolic. If you are broke they will support you, but they want you to be the man. It gives them a sense of security 2. It's not that deep, you get way more back that it costs you.
@BlueBookMen1000

That's exactly why certain type of American men do very well with African women but some others don't. What most of those women are looking for is very different from what the American woman is looking for. People need to accept that and stop whining. You can say "I look like an athlete, I have pimp game and swag" I'm sorry but most of them don't care.

So you could easily take care of a family. Most of the Ugandan women I met are interested in having their own business.

A man is supposed to provide for his woman/wife and kids! It is very weak for a man to want a woman to pay 1/2 on anything! My wife does not know what a bill looks like and we have a home in America and a home in Uganda and she never had to pay 1 coin on any bill, groceries, cellphone bills or anything.
@khalilbashir7141

Your view is a bit too macho and arrogant for my taste. Everybody doesn't have it quite like you do. Some couples willingly help each other pay the bills and they team work on things. If you don't have to do that then that's fine, but some husbands aren't in position to pay for everything. There are some people who get married poor and they know they will both have to contribute. I just think as a man you should definitely have active plans on improving your financial position so that in the near future you can pay for everything. It doesn't make you weak or some kind of scoundrel if you can't pay for everything. I will agree with you that it's a bit weak if a man has NO PLAN or desire to ever pay more than 50 percent.

The family needs to like you or the girl will basically be abandoned. And no African girl wants that. I did a traditional wedding here in Colorado myself. It was like 2,700.. after negotiations. Didn't have to do western wedding tho😂😂 would have cost at leat 15k.. thats the bright side of things. And we don't need rings either. At least I don't.. she wanted it, so I bought it for her.

1NavtLT guess what it's mostly like that in every 54 African countries. African women in general have been used to been taken cared of by their dads and men from their family. They move from their parents house and go directly and marry so they expect the man they marry to provide for them. Even some of the woman who are modernized and leave on their own, they also are looking for a provider most of the time. African men understand this because they come from this culture. I can understand for u guys it will be more difficult. An African does not ask a woman what does she bring to the table. Never heard that. Taking care of the kids and all the household, some also have a business aside. And usually when the man is not able to provide anymore or if there money issues well guess who takes care of everyone. Who is going to wake up at 5am and clean the house than go the market to sell what she can if she have to so her family can eat. The woman

But once you know what you get back from a "good" Ugandan woman it will make the money you spend look like change. But you have to find the good ones. It's not hard tho. When you say the woman doesn't give anything to the relationship... What do mean? Are you talking financially? Because if so a woman can bring so much more to your life than superficial things. If you can't see that finding a woman is a great thing then maybe you're not ready for a relationship if you're focused on "she's trying to take my money." Now if you're trying to date multiple women then yes this will be expensive and you will complain about they are taking your money. So moral of the story is to court one woman that you feel u really want to have a long term relationship with and you won't regret spending some money on her. I do buy my guy nice gifts, of course not all the time but they're not cheap gifts.

Black Americans talking against dowries. What happens if you have daughters born in africa and they get married to African men. Are you going to refuse for the man family to pay a dowry to you her parents? Because that's what its going to happen. The future husband will send his family to talk to you and ask you for the hand of your daughter and will ask you what do u want for the bride price or dowry. Keep in mind is s symbolic thing that reunites that we do to reunite 2 families. In my tribe if there is a divorce and it's the womans fault (cheating for example) her family have to give back every single thing that was given as dowry or bride price

For all who are not aware the cattle in Africa are the most expensive in the world? For example the Texas longhorn is from Africa. When I would take a road trip with my child, i would have them count the cattle in a field as we pass bye, then i would have em do the math? tax free. Let em know this is what real money smells like. In my culture men don't want to feel like we are providing for a woman like she is a child... Sorry, but that's not attractive. I definitely look at what a woman can provide for herself without a man. As a man I know what to do to keep a woman happy if I'm in a relationship and we have a child together. I will never encourage a woman to be with a selfish man, but don't break the bank. Compromising with open discussion should be the strong point. No man is a mind reader about what a woman may need as far as up keep so it's better to be vocal about those things. A man can give a woman money but it may not be enough for what she needs to get done. So, it's better to let a man know who you are and the every day lifestyle that you are about. Great topic... 👊🏿👍🏿

expectations leads to disappointment, she expect one thing, and that man go and do another, he expect one thing, and she go and do another, if you plan to gather, any relationship require two people, we do a lot of things different, and hopefully the results will be the same. one thing I do know, money helps, but feelings spend in a different way, and emotions and trust, can push love out the door, I know my place, and I hope you can find yours, trust and love is like a flower, you plant it, give it water that it don't dry up, the right sun light that it may grow, talk to it, look at it every day, and when the blossom appear, we both can smell it to gather, and do the same with our love."

Brothers if you can't adjust to the local culture then don't go. The only thing about the local culture that interest many of the American brothers is the potential of polygamy and even that is not going to work out with the small number of women that are open to it because they are going to expect a man to be a major provider along with her parents having their hand out too. going 50/50 is not going to cut it.

She got pissed and then said well what do I need you for then. I dont get it I was brought up believing a couple worked together with money for a good future. TM K I’m Ugandan and I I know it’s not true for all African women. Many of these women are simply looking for somebody to connect with on personal level and it’s during the dating period that they’ll decide whether they’re open for marriage or not. Though many of them are attracted to money some will not accept or even hope for marriage however rich you’re if you’re not their marriage type. I’ve been in serious relationships with a number of Ugandan women where there were no expectations of marriage on both sides.

I wouldn’t think there’re no gold diggers in Uganda. Gold diggers are every where in the world, and some girls and families there set high expectations what they want from a man. Want a man with a car, nice house nice job. And the dowery thing, respect to my brothers out there but the girl you’re taking has no monetary value (cows, food blabla). They’re worth more than anything. Dont send dowry to her parents and at the end of it all abuse her as a form of pay back. I personally dont like the dowry thing. So if two hearts melted into each other but the man cant fullfill dowry requirements does that mean they’re going to be seperated. There’s greed and family drama in the whole thing. I would rather give my daughter out without expectations for dowry if they’re going to be happy in marriage and in pure love. And oh, I subscribed to follow.

If you value a woman who keeps home, raises, educates and nurtures kids, takes care of you, does all the cooking and cleaning, honours and respects you as her king and remains loyal to a fault then you get way more than the change you spend on her. @Reina De corazones It used to be like that in America, but as the cost of living increased, and more women began to enter the workplace, both contributed financially. Also in our society, people are considering , saving for their kids college, retirement, life insurance, health insurance, on top of all the other household expenses, hence, its not realistic for one person to be the sole financial provider. People are living longer now a days, therefore, if you dont want to be struggling in old life, it usually takes 2.
