Hello, russian here. How can I be blamed for this war? It's the same as blaming all americans for every war their government started. No one asks citizens in any country if a state should start a war. I was literally sleeping when all of this started. And I'm not going to throw away my life protesting, because I have responsibilities to people close to me to provide a stable living. Hating me is only going to cause a negative reaction in me. That's an unnecessary hatred negative feedback loop. But here we are. Oh well.

We Americans should take more blame for the actions of our government, we elected those officials. We ate up the iraq war bullshit and thought we were above other nations, that we can invade who we want in the name of democracy and preemptive self-defense. We should have done more to stop it. I’m not saying you must go full navalny, you and me don’t have the balls for that. But you should consider leaving russia so your money isn’t funding the slaughter of Ukrainians and/or donating to the AFU.

You pretty much explained it yourself why people are hating you - "the innocent bystander". It's because you were sleeping while this shit happened. The country is not Putin and his 100 chairmen. The country is You, Your family, Your neighbors, and the entire population of the nation. You and the majority of the Russian population were doing nothing for all these years and let a madman escalate the nation into all-out war with a sovereign nation. Being a fucking coward and letting this shit happen is just as morally wrong as going to the frontline itself. And now you have the audacity to play a fucking victim here. But, oh well, here we are.

That's why you are blame for this. That's not fair, that some of your fellow people risk their life, for better future of their country, meanwhile you are sitting on the sofa, and searching excuses. If every russian, who hates putin, go on the streets to protest, you could throw away putin's regime. But nobody in russia cares about anything. You are brainwashed, stupid and didn't care about anything and anyone including yourself and your own future, so you have the consequences of that, everybody hates russians right now, cause you're real danger to planet earth.

Your not to blame but you need to get out there in your millions and protest...where is the uproar against putin!... its the uneducated older generation in mostly rural areas that still wish for the USSR that love putin I know ,I understand, but people are terrified to be against the war. Its an awful situation for Russia people...they need educationing or need to get out and protest......yet too late because citizens allow him another six years! @A Vishnevsky I will take a look. However, i spent time in Lviv with some Azov fighters that had just got back from Mariupol. The level of propaganda on their beliefs was absolutely insane. As well as the videos they were showing me on their phones. Videos of them killing unarmed old men laying face down on the road. They then showed me videos of them trying to burn the bodies in the ditch. That is very real. And it was in 2017 or 18. Both sides are wrong. However, in Lviv the fascist rhetoric was very real as well as the nazi ideologies being openly celebrated. I seen it with my own eye, and heard it with my ears. I was even told that once they kill all the Russians they were going to kill all the gypsies. Its insane, and very real. Im not on either side. And definitely will not defend Ukraine and am disgusted that the world is funding this ideology. Much like how the world funded the Nazi's in the 1930s. Peace will only come from diplomacy. And unfortunately Ukraine will most likely not get their land back. But i refuse the idea that the western world should burn down for Ukraine. Which is easily one of the most corrupt nations i ever set foot in. Where on our exit, the police openly tried to rob us at 10am in front of more than 100people. And the only reason they never was because they realized they would have to take us to jail, as we would not willingly give them our things. And they would then have to deal with the canadian government. People of Ukraine need to admit to themselves of the problems in their own nation. As do Russians.

Но делать нас неадекватными, просто потому что мы не протестуем, не корректно. I was in Ukraine before this conflict, 2018. I believe Ukrainians are good people , however. I have never heard such hateful rhetoric towards others than i had from Ukrainians. Glass bottles being thrown at musicians from 3 story windows in the center of Lvov in the early afternoon. Russian speaking Ukrainians being aggressively bullied for their accent. Russian speaking young men who were badly injured fighting for Ukraine being treated like dogs. Then i had the unfortunate opportunity to have drinks with the neo nazi's showing me videos of them committing literal warcrimes (murder) in Mariupol. And when we were leaving by train to Hungary, the border police tried to rob us. And we almost got arrested because they tried to take things, we were not willing to lose. And before you call me a Russian troll. I'm canadian. With no roots in the region. However i have spent lots of time in central Europe in the last 20 years. Im glad that i got to see some of the truths about Ukraine, before this conflict started to get a better understanding of the lies being told by my government about this conflict. I just came from Turkey before Christmas and met lots of Russians there. Some supportive of their government, and some not. None of them ever disparaged the people of Ukraine. In all my years, i don't recall any Russians speaking poorly of Ukrainians. But Ukrainians have said some horrible things the other way around. Since well before this conflict. Ukraine is not innocent. And neither is Russia. The west is using the lives of Ukrainians to do their bidding. And it is terribly sad. I will not choose a side in this conflict. And believe diplomacy is the only answer to peace. If not, Ukraine will be utterly destroyed. And that is terrible and unacceptable. The only people that can stop this are the Ukrainians. And when that time comes, they may find it wasn't the Russians that were the problem, but nato and their own government corruption. May God bless the poor souls that are dying on those lands, regardless of what flag may lay beside their bodies. About Nato. Them giving you the rope to hang yourself doesn't make them your friend. Especially if they are the one tying the noose and kicking the chair out from under you. History has shown they will leave Ukraine broken, in massive debt. And in the gutter at first sight of trouble.

I'm Italian and I've seen many videos like these by chance. Despite the war, I have noticed that Russians do not hate Ukrainians (or any people in general), while many Ukrainians hate Russians. My question to Ukrainians is this: if your people were persecuted in a foreign country, would you accept it? Nowhere in the world are Ukrainians persecuted, not even in Russia. Russian minorities, on the other hand, are always subject to attacks, criticism, hatred. If you want peace and salvation, you have to talk to the Russians, understand each other and learn to love each other. You don't have to look for peace in other states, in the USA, in NATO, in the EU or in weapons. Others don't give a damn about you. What you have to do is just talk to each other, Ukrainians and Russians.

Olga is a very good interviewer in that she lets the people she's talking to speak for as long as they need an express themselves fully without interrupting even once. Far too often you see amateur KZbinrs and even professional journalists cut in, ask leading questions, try to pry a desired response from their subject, or even just straight-up try to debate them or play "devil's advocate" for clicks and views. I think people often forget that both sides are suffering here. While there are indeed people in Russia who support the war and what it is attempting to achieve, many only say they do as a means of self-preservation, and it is easy to say how disingenuous or inconsiderate this preservation is when you aren't on the receiving end of intense government pressure (especially those who take offense on Ukraine's behalf in the comfort of their American homes, who don't feel the pressure of *war itself* either). They're just as human as the rest of us, and many Russians do openly speak about their opposition. It is completely unfair for one to make a blanket statement and say that they "Hate them all.", even if the foundation for that statement makes most perceive it as a justified mindset.

No, people are well aware and have time and again tried to find common ground and reason but it’s a one way street. Honestly it’s comments just like this what about poor Russians, always infiltrating every Ukrainian space and the lack of self awareness of why this is inappropriate is shocking. Not to mention there is little to no empathy, in fact the opposite-indifference. This is all just so bizarre to see play out again and again, always asking but what about us? What about you? You’re not being destroyed by bombs end of story. It’s ok to self preserve it’s understandable. But you cannot claim that and then proceed to advocate for Russia! In Ukrainian spaces no less, it’s disrespectful on another level.

Ukraine LOST the minute Kiev decided to attack Donbas. Do you not understand? 'Ukraine' was one place of 40 million people together with problems as in any other place. But it was ONE. The minute Kiev decided to attack the Donbas THAT Ukraine died. Dead. Gone. Replaced by a Ukraine split in two. Like a cracked mirror. A broken cup. It was gone. Forever. Because this was worse than any cracked mirror or broken cup, inanimate piece of matter that could perhaps be glued back together and function as before. No. These are human beings. You cannot set 30 million humans to attack 10 million humans and then pretend they can join together afterwards as before. You cannot. They will not. It cannot. AND that was never the intention anyway. The intention was either to destroy the 10million or change them completely. This is plain and simple objective fact. KIEV (and Washington) DESTROYED Ukraine back in '24. They set out to destroy it and replace it with something else. They set out to destroy it and replace it with a Ukraine wherein 10 million became either dead or expelled or subject second rate peoples. Don't bother arguing merits. Simple fact is THAT is a DIFFERENT Ukraine. If it had been achieved it would have been a Ukraine with a recent history of ethnic cleansing. What a horror. People living in the home and the properties of people they'd dispossessed or killed. Second class citizens walking cowed in the streets like Jews in Nazi Germany. If it had been achieved it would have been a horror. And ultimate irony: all it had tried to dispel would inexorably come back in anyway: all the influence of their close neighbour Russia.

Also they stayed with my parents who are originally Slovak, and they could understand much of the language. What I saw in Ukraine was utter devastation and despair, all hope was lost for a better future without Russia. But a better time did come - and Putin now seeks to erase all the advances and take them back to his miserable mantra of living under the Russian yoke. @@RRaucina There is a common misconception in the West that Ukraine was this garden and Russia backwards. Well, according to our own CIA Russian real GDP per capita was twice that of Ukraine in 2021 (i.e. before the invasion). Russia ranked 52nd on the Human Development Index in 2021, Ukraine ranked 77th. Russia was Ukraine's largest trade partner, Russia paid Ukraine for Russian gas transit thru Soviet era pipes to Europe. Russia sold Ukraine gas on easy terms, and even accepted some Soviet era, Russian SSR built TU-160s which the Ukraines had left rotting as partial payment. In fact, Ukraine even had the chutzpah to demand a place at the table over Nordstream II negotiations, because they would 'lose revenue' by not being a chokepoint for Russian gas. Russia was paying Ukraine $98 million a year to lease the Sebastopol Navy base. All these economic ties were in addition to the cultural, historical, linguistic and even family times that many 'Ukrainians' in the east and south of the country shared. That's why several times they voted for presidents who wished to pursue good relations with Russia, only to see those electoral victories overturned by street violence.

So, the people who stayed in Russia had a choice of resisting or obeying. And the majority have chosen to obey. It is not very different in other countries I would say, only few people are strong willed and reckless enough to challenge a government that punishes with a prison sentence even for a participating in a peaceful meeting. The process that goes on in modern Russia is very similar to that in Germany in 1930s. The same methods, the same catastrophic result.

@@MsNinich Dear Ms Ninich, Is Donbass Russian? Or Ukrainian? I’m very old, experienced and unbiased enough to know that “the winner of a war usually writes the history books”! Stating “the truth” so to speak.. Therefore I am both sceptical and open minded! Therefore I have also taken a deep dive into the history of countries and people and viewed it from different horizons to receive a broad perspective. It’s extremely rare that the memory of a population is longer than a generation. A long time strategic leader knows this and by moving people around geographically (deporting), the leader knows that he/she can make massive land areas “belong” to a country (future wise) that doesn’t really do when looking back a generation or two!.. There are many examples of that in the history of the world. On all continents! And the CCCP and Russia were/are masters of that strategy. The main point in my view is that ordinary people are ordered to kill and be killed due to imperialistic sociopaths although there is plenty of space and food for us all. Instead of fighting your own citizens or neighbours - fighting corruption and illiteracy! Instead of building military might - building education facilities and medical care. Instead of….. I could go on.. The key to happiness for people is not “land grabbing or might grabbing“. It is peace, education, prosperity and a possibility for each and everyone to self development! Therefore, we, the people of the world, have the UN-charter to live by. The borders of the countries are what they are from that date in time. To look forward instead of backwards! Forgive and forget and starting cooperating with each other! The UN charter was created to put a halt to land grabbing and as a result - suffering! Instead, focusing on developing what each country has within its borders. Peace is less costly than war! In terms of development, suffering, prosperity! Once in history vast parts of todays Russia, Finland, Norway and other parts of Europe was Swedish! Should Sweden aspire to take it back just because!… Well, Sweden has a democracy and sociopathic autocrats would never make it in the society. Why? Because Sweden has a free press and juridical system. Unlike Russia for instance. Unlike recent years also Hungary and plenty more countries.. In countries with dictators the first thing to go is the free press! The second to go is the control of the education system. Leaders of the education centres are kicked and the control is transferred to the inner circle of the dictator. Thirdly, the juridical system is taken over. Unbiased courts vanishes. The inner circle of the dictator decides what and who to rule! The forth, and the last to go, is freedom of speech! It now becomes illegal to criticise the leaders in the country! Now there is no one to watch your back as a citizen if you ventilate your dissatisfaction with how the society is run. Now there is a perfect environment for nepotism and corruption to grow and flourish. Not the living standards of the citizens! Back to the assault on Ukraine by Russia: Land grabbing! Does it make us swedes sad that we “have to” stick to the UN charter? 🤣 No! We have devoted our resources and the might if the politicians to develop our country to serve the citizens- not the opposite! Russia and its friends should do the same! I am from Sweden as you have already grasped I guess. Where exactly do you come from if you are brave enough to state that? Kind regards Anders Sweden

I’m Swedish 🇸🇪 and totally back Ukraine 🇺🇦 in this conflict and am pro sending more military aid to you! But it’s intresting to see and realize that many Russians are against their war on Ukraine too. I totally blame the Russian government for the war and the ones supporting Putin. But I respect Russians fighting against it by deserting, leaving Russia or protest in the streets. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but be prepared to argue it. Hating all Russians, albeit an understandable feeling during a war like this, isn’t constructive. I think you have many Russians in your side. I hope the help to your armed forces will force Russia back to their territory and that you can regain control over Crimea too as it is yours! I also commend your treatment of war prisoners! 'it’s intresting to see and realize that many Russians are against their war on Ukraine too' That doesn't necessary means they have not imperialistic mindset. F.e. infamous russian opposition figure Navalny supported Crimea annexation in 2014 and answered that 'Crimea is not a sandwich to return it'. What they unhappy now is not humanitarian catastrophe in Ukrainian places, but only the fact that ruzzia can't easily win the war and taking heavy losses, that makes some of them to say they are 'against their war'. But they will say, let's end the war now and ruzzia keeps all territories they occupied since Feb.22 and acquitted of the responsibility for war crimes they did and reparations, which is unacceptable from Ukraine standpoint. ruzzians show zero empathy towards those who suffered and suffering in Ukraine, maybe 1-3 people in hundred will think about it. You can see it in videos where they complaining about their kids being used as cannon fodder and sent to die without necessarily ammunition. They whine, 'send our kids to reserve, replace them with someone else', but never 'stop this illegal war asap'. 'I think you have many Russians in your side.' Very few realize what they did and willing to pay for it.

Thank you for these good interviews. I personally still have contact with a few Russians who are against the war but are reluctant to speak up. They don't want to talk about it anymore. In the beginning it was different, when everyone was still in shock, posting No to War on social media, etc. But they quickly removed it, first and foremost I think out of fear but also because it caused animosity and frictions among friends. And I think also there is alot of shame involved. So, in most cases, I guess it's easier to "bury the head in sand" and pretend things are more or less normal. I also watch KZbin clips where the attitude is similar to the above. It makes me angry and I thought people would become more and more frustrated as time goes by. But it seems it is some sort of selfpreserving mechanism that has kicked in. I don't know, I can only guess.. But it's greatly disturbing. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦From 🇸🇪 💙🕊💛

Self preserving mechanism? Being sent to meat grinder. Simple math. Now. 100 000 dead Russian and 300 injured. Mas o menos. If the Moscovites rally in 2 million at the beginning they would show their democratic NO. In the worst scenario there would be 5 people killed and 100 badly injured. Do the math. Plus from all badly injured all would have legs and hands. Social ostracisme especially those who like travelling? Last year 200 000 visited Russia as tourists. 4.5milion less than previous year. Taking into consideration what attitude Moscovites have towards other regions, the minorities, speaks a lot about their warm nature.

@@olgafromkyiv I am talking about everyone. Everyone is too busy pointing fingers at each other, and this kind of mentality isn't going to help to re-establish peace or prevent future conflicts. -The Russians need to reflect on whether their leaders have exhausted all political and diplomatic options before deciding on war, and whether their previous political relations with Ukraine has been on good faith and fair dealings. -The Ukrainians need to reflect on how their passive approach towards rampant corruption in politics had lead to a catastrophic failure of national defense. If your country gets invaded, that means the country's defense policy has failed by definition, and no matter how much you curse and blame the invaders, it won't help you figure out what made the country vulnerable to an invasion. -The rest of the world need to reflect on how their duplicitous approach to international politics had contributed to the destabilization of an already vulnerable Ukraine. Contrary to what nations claim, they are not aiding Ukraine out of good will or moral obligation. They are aiding Ukraine with an expectation to make returns on their investments. You have to wonder why there weren't as much political or diplomatic support from other nations to prevent the war. They put absolute bare minimum with the Minsk Agreements and when the first agreement didn't work, they just photocopied another one and signed another one! Why do things have to go this bad for the rest of the world to start caring that much more? Well, truth be told, diplomacy isn't as profitable as war for those who aren't directly involved in the armed conflict. You see, for a war to occur, a lot of factors have to collide just the right way, and this case, there is plenty of reflection to be done by EVERYONE. Sadly, I don't see that happening, and I am afraid that even when peace is achieved somehow, it may not last very long...

@@thepunisher2988 " If your country gets invaded, that means the country's defense policy has failed by definition" If your country was invaded it means, that you have an aggressive neighbor. If you whole country is under occupation, it means, that your defense failed. In both cases Russia and Ukraine perceived corruption is on similar level. BTW Russia guaranteed Ukraine safety for nuclear weapon. It was a terrible mistake from Ukrainian side (trusting Russia and giving them nuclear missiles).
@thepunisher2988
@thepunisher2988 Жыл бұрын
@@PiotrPilinko You and I have a different belief on what it means to fail, so I suppose we will never agree on this subject, and any efforts to convince each other wrong will only result in a useless back-and-forth exchanges or perhaps even exchange of insults. I am not interested it that. I hope you understand. That being said, I don't think it would hurt you to understand what I mean by failure of defense. To me a successful defense policy is one where no one dares to attack the nation, because the consequences would be too great for the belligerent nation. For every nation it practically guaranteed one or more neighboring nation will become aggressive at one point as a result of collision of national interests. This means every nation must remain vigilant to their ever evolving geopolitical situation, and come up with a defense policy that is appropriate their respective position. There is nothing particularly wrong with your take on failure of national defense, though if the point at which a nation's defense policy fails is when the country falls entirely, that means the defense policy has to prioritize warfare rather than peace. However, if the point of failure is determined to be at breach of defense (i.e an armed invasion through the border; NOT limited skirmishes or act of terror), the defense policy has to prioritize the integrity of the national border and as well as peace within the border. Countries like South Korea and Taiwan (yes, I consider it a country) have aggressive neighbors who make threat of war, but so far there hasn't been any invasions. This is because both countries have defense policies that prioritize prevention of war, and they have done rather well so far by integrating their defense policies with their overall foreign policies on trade, military alliance, and international diplomacy. In any case, there are plenty of other mistakes Ukraine leading up to the war. Let me be clear, I am not blaming Ukraine, I am simply interested in figuring out what each country, including Ukraine, could have done to reduce the chance of invasion. If you believe that Ukraine was invaded, because Russia is naturally aggressive and its leader just went crazy one day, well, you better get used to invasions then, because that could happen again, and it doesn't necessarily have to be Russia. Who knows? Maybe Poland might go crazy one day and decide to invade Ukraine? Maybe Romania? Hungary? Slovakia? Belarus? Just because Ukraine is relatively on friendly terms with those countries doesn't prevent them from going crazy. So if you believe wars occur because a country all of a sudden becomes aggressive beyond reason, well, I guess there isn't much you can do other than pray that your neighboring countries don't go crazy one day. There is actually nothing particularly wrong with that approach as long as one is prepared to accept the consequences.
