The problem with that prescription is the ability to distinguish BS from fact. I'm convinced near one hundred percent of humanity is gullible, clueless idiots who'll fall for whatever bolsters their biases and egos. Just look at the political situation in almost every country: voters choosing against their best interests time and time again, wowed by the rhetoric of crooked politicians whose only goal is to attain and maintain power. That behavior manifests in every aspect of their lives. How to detect and avoid the BS? The vast majority have no clue.

I finished Bretts Hendrix course, but not before I finished everything that you have on Hendrix, double stops, and all the songs that came with it. I’m a busy bee. But this is what I live for.. I really dig your arrangements of songs whether their Hendrix style or not. I appreciate what you do.

Neil Postman refers to the 'flotsam' that Eric speaks of in his book "Technopoly", which I'd highly recommend to those who feel overwhelmed by the information glut afforded to us by modern technology. It's a consequence of the age of information being both a blessing and a curse--it's all in a matter of how it's used. I've been discouraged by the guitar for years now because of how much of my practice is dependent on being in front of a computer, but it's the transcendent nature the instrument affords that keeps me coming back to it. Eric, you're one of the only real ones on this platform; keep doing what you do brother, you're making a difference.

Perfect. And this works. I set a true goal a few years ago to never play in a cover band again. Fortunately I have a great friend and student who I could teach guitar by teaching him all of my songs. Six years later we have a band of misfits who willingly or not only play my music. Goal accomplished, and never would have done it without setting it.

Last year I dabbled my toes in the first bits of music theory I ever really understood (your beginner course on this channel). I sort of disappeared for a while from this channel, working on my (mostly pentatonic truth be told) soloing etc. Formed my first band, played two gigs as a matter of fact. Hi Eric... I:ve been following your channel for quite some time now... and IMHO you're still the best guitar teacher out there... well, it works for me... What I realized lately is, how hard it truly must be to put out content every week... Well, there is a lot to say about music... and yes, you provide content on so many different layers like your courses and all that... so, which must be even be harder... Well, the thingy I found out for myself is... that being able to play for 3.5 min straight takes a lot of condition, and in doing so to not get lost and at least be able to hit the next 1beat is a huge challenge... oh, and then I forgot to mention... if that works steadily...like when you experience flow... you still need to listen to those guys around you... and check out what they're doing... and come up with something yourself... well, very very very challenging... In a word... in all those tutorials out there... I rarely - or never - experience real music making... like in what needs to be done to play for minutes without losing an 8th while listening and coming up with own ideas... Anyway... thank you so very much for your inspiration and all the content that you give for free to anyone who wants to listen... In doing so you really make the world a better place! Chapeau!

The overwhelm is real, particularly in recent weeks when I've found overstretching myself has caused me to play even less and I've definitely lost focus, strayed towards a Jazz Path and turned away screaming. I'm slowly getting my mojo back, partly by slashing my consumption of you tube guitar content. No more reviews, sales pitches, best this, best that,etc. Even guitar tutorials (you're golden, Eric - always) have been passed over. If I love the music it gets past the gatekeeper. I don't need a new guitar to play better, I have a couple of really good one's. I need to play those MORE to play better. Thanks for the kick up the arse. Now where's that clipboard?

@@Theprogressivemusician I have been keeping it basic, concentrating on only a couple of standards and doing a ton of listening. It’s a language and listening is every bit as important as ‘talking’. I’m still going g real slow and avoid tying myself in knots. Learning a few phrases and where I can use them. For real progress I need to find a good teacher.

The young me practiced to impress. A million scale pattern drills, blazing fast alternate picking, hammering/pulling dozens of notes Eddie or Vai style across or up/down strings. 40 years in i can do those technical things but rarely do. Who am i going to impress? Upload my version of Panama for a few hundred likes and 12 jerks telling me its not perfect note for note. I love to just close my eyes, play slow with intention for me. It impresses myself.

Great to focus on them now and again, but i just have to look down at my feet and figure out the next step. One step closer is closer. Hi Eric. I’d love to see a video on how to practice timing in your playing….If that makes sense. I consider my self an intermediate guitar amateur, and I find that I struggle the most with nailing the beat/timing of a song even though I might nail the chords and tabs. What would be a good practice regimen for this problem? Keep making great videos. All the best!

Timing is the trickiest thing! And it's so unique to ever player. That's why we can never sound like Hendrix - his timing! Give me an example of a tune your struggling with and I'll hypothesize!

An add2/add4 adds the second or forth within the triad, while a sus2/sus4 has the second or forth replace the third. Cadd4 is C-E-F-G, while Csus4 is C-F-G. Note that the number attached to the add matches the degree of the added note. Cadd2 means adding a D between the C and E, while a Cadd9 puts a D on top, i.e. C-E-G-D. Meanwhile, C9 or C11 imply that a D or an F are added to a C7. Of course, inversions can mess up the whole order of things, so you might want to try out different combinations and see which one sounds closest to what you're going for. Hope this clarifies things!

Eric, I'm worried though that such linear thinking like lists can suck the life and joy out of learning guitar. Many times I pursue a listed item to boredom. I then have to store it on a mental shelf to retrieve later. Maybe my attention span or talent is deficient, but sometimes it may take me months to learn a solo or song because you can only spend so much linear time on something.
