We need an urgent, broader discussion about the politicisation of science and how the scientific community clearly lost their objectivity on this and other recent topics (it appears masking now too). Yes this is still uncertain, but the speed in which prominent scientists closed ranks against the possibility of a lab leak and actively neutered dissent was chilling and clearly based on factors other than good science. The integrity of science is critical to society.

It was this technician who went to the Wuhan seaford market unaware that she had been affected, hence the SARS-cov-2 virus entering human population and as we know is history.

Yep, they had a young lady on the website, whose picture was then removed from the website's staff list, and never anyone heard about her again. Either a student or a young employer who was there since short time only. Satellite images photographed a high volume of traffic at the institute's car park days after that time. I saw the images of this, and also the image of that lady, before it was removed. There was also a job advertisement displaying the advantages of working at the institute, inclusive a video showing the work with bats. Horseshoenose bats, a kind that does not live in Wuhan. The same kind that left the genetic fingerprint in the virus.

Not really. It seems sensible to assume that due to poor quality of living conditions, blood and other bodily fluids would mix in wet markets. This could easily lead to beneficial mutations (for the virus), if at a large enough scale but I agree, it was interesting how much uncertainty there is in the source. The papers was from a state where no one lives like Ohio, Montana some state of those where everything is just grass and not many people. I’m in two minds about this, I don’t necessarily blame the media for responding with a resounding anti-racist message on this. While we cannot be 100% certain, few months ago a pair of complimentary studies came out that undermined the lab leak hypothesis. Via analysing the genetic code of 807 Wuhan virus samples collected before February 14th 2020, researchers discovered the outbreak was spawned by two genetically distinct viruses, known as Lineage A and Lineage B. They also found that Lineage B infected people first around mid-November, then Lineage A infected people a few weeks later. The fact that the outbreak was spawned by two different viruses, about 3 weeks apart, is not compatible with a Lab Leak Hypothesis. "We resolved this paradox by showing that early SARS-CoV-2 genomic diversity and epidemiology are best explained by at least two separate zoonotic transmissions, in which lineage A and B progenitor viruses were both circulating in nonhuman mammals before their introduction into humans (figs. S30 and S31)." However, it is compatible with a zoonotic outbreak, people getting infected by animals several times over a few weeks. Other evidence in support of an animal origin was the hotspot map they created from dozens of virus samples at the Wet Market, from counter tops, the floor, animal cages. The virus contamination showed a hotspot where live animals were kept, including racoon dogs and an unknown bird species. In law there is a long established evidence principle known as "adverse inference". Under this principle, when a party who is in control of pertinent information refuses to disclose that information -- or destroys it or otherwise allows it to be spoiled -- the judge or jury may draw an adverse inference. In other words, the judge or jury may infer that the party refused to disclose the information because it would've been terrible for that party's case. Given China's efforts to cover up (which included "disappearing" some whistleblowers), the reasonable thing for us to do is to follow the common law principle of adverse inference and assume covid came from a lab leak unless and until China discloses what scientists need to figure out how the pandemic started once and for all.

Well, first of all, China didn't "disappear" any whistleblowers. Second, the world's top virologists were allowed to look at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, see its facilities, its records, and interview its staff. They all unanimously concluded that it was "extremely unlikely" the virus was leaked from there, and there had never been any evidence it was. The only reason this discussion has come up again is that two U.S. government agencies, who frankly have no business looking into virology leaks - the U.S. Department of Energy and the FBI - are making claims that they cannot possibly substantiate (which is why they don't even try).

I’m hoping that this will bring the state of large western media corporations more seriously into question. Interest group mandated political stances and logics of public responsibility cased extreme bias in reporting or failing to report facts. I remember when this was classed as a fringe idea and a so-called ‘conspiracy theory’, which shuts down debate and encourages questioners to be ridiculed. Later I asked a family member - who happens to be a professor of microbiology - his opinion on the lab theory and let’s say his answer shocked me. To him it was an extraordinary turn of events that the virus originated in the same place as the lab where they studied and experimented with viruses of this type, and that the lab workers were recorded amongst the earliest people to get sick. He also told me there was a precedent for lab-initiated epidemics, for example with foot and mouth disease in the uk.

The spike was attached to a non-replicating non-virus particle, a bit like how a mechanic might take out the engine of a car and put it on a test stand, to measure its horse power. As a British Hong konger who lived through SARS in Hong Kong , I always find credence in the lab theory… because as mentioned in the video, we managed to identify the animals which were most likely to be the intermediary host before the virus gets transmitted to humans… in sars, it was the civet cats. The scientists were pretty quick to identify them and theorized how the virus got to humans (apparently people in China consumed the animal) but we could not identify the animal this time three years onwards… China has a long history of lying…. At the beginning of SARS, Chinese officials had deliberately misled Hong Kong which led to the virus taking hold in communities in Hong Kong that resulted in massive panic and lockdowns. I wouldn’t be surprised if China did the same with covid. We know now as a fact China deliberately covered up covid right at the start when the virus took hold in China. Pretty sure Trump was briefed as early as December about an virus outbreak in China… and I am quite sure I read about stories of a mysterious virus in China that my friends shared around in late 2019.
