What Do You Do When You Feel Uninspired?

Hello everyone! Welcome back to a new video. I’ve had a busy week and on top of it, nothing I started felt inspiring. I don’t like that feeling and so I grabbed my travel sketchbook to see if I could see something that would inspire me. And this is what I ended up with. Is it my most beautifullest piece ever? No. BUT, I got to be creative and finish a piece and that made me happy. And I hope YOU will get a chance to spread your creative wings as well! I’ll be back next week. XO, B.

Greetings, Bettina! I just found your channel this week. I've jumped around your time frame from when you started, to the latest and sampled several of your videos. So, I'm just going to say..... I love to follow creators that are genuine and authentic. All of your videos, so far, feel very authentic, and I LOVE THAT! Thank you for being YOU! Your art is amazing. You have a specific style of doodling that, according to this video, you mention gets dull, repeptitive, or boring. But I don't feel that way at all. Even if you follow the same process for a lot of your work, it all feels unique and genuine to the viewer. I have been inspired so much in just a couple of days. As a very 'realistic' artist, I'm loving learnning from you. Tomorrow morning I am going to try my very first intuitive painting that gleans from all the videos that I watched from you. Your very honest commentary has been invaluable. For instance.... I figured out a while back that I LOVED Meeden watercolor paper for my work. Then I saw you try out Baohong paper for the first time (same company as Meeden, I think) and you used the 'back' of it instead of the front, and a light went off for me! I LOVE Meeden for my realistic watercolor projects. But when I tried it for an abstract it failed miserably. And now, I realize that it was the texturing. So maybe I will try the 'back' of the paper next time. I hope you keep creating videos. I LOVE your work, and I have saved links to some of the products that you recommend, so hopefully you will get a little bit of profit from that. Today, I just recieved (from your affiliate link) my order of the mop brushes that you use. Can't wait to try them out!

I can get ‘caught’ trying to think up new strokes for my doodles but thanks to you, I have crested a doodle library sheet that I can refer to in order to re-engage & get ideas to get inspired again. Also I’ve added small collage pieces from other papers collected that I can glue onto my work with gesso. I also rely on bits of nature to make my marks; a feather, a small bundle of pine needles, acorns, wilted flowers, etc. Thinking outside the box has given me opportunities to take the Neurological process and mix it with other media for some but not all of my work. Thank you for giving me these gifts to expand, enjoy, react and most of all smile.

15:01 : 2 Hour video compressed into 20 mins. Thank you! It doesn't look sped up but I know I would have given up if I wasn't able to do all the designs as quickly as it appeared you were doing them. I'm sure you are more than capable, but I would have gone crazy if I thought I had to try to be as quick as you! I truly love this artwork and all of your tips. (It has taken me 2+ hours to get to the 15 minute mark, as I keep stopping to do other things, but then come back to calm myself again. 💚💙 Green and blue, so calming. -kate

Thank you so much! To be honest, I never thought doodling would be something I'd be drawn to! I'm very much an abstract lover and didn't think I would work with watercolor so much. I stumbled across some videos one day and thought I'd give it a try. And then I just started practicing. I think the more you practice the more you find what works best for you. For me, I feel less is more, so I just use a few doodle styles and change them up a bit. The most important thing to remember is, that there is no wrong way 😊

Aww, thank you! But not to worry, I speak in the moment and that's what comes out. Generally I get over it pretty quickly or a piece will grow on me over time. To me, it's OK not to live everything I create. That doesn't mean I don't learn a bunch. And I also state when I really like something I've created, so in the end it all evens out again anyway 😊

Obviously, we love what you do, and you are the inspiration for many of us when we get stuck. However, that doesn’t mean you have to keep doing the same thing over & over when you’re not feeling it. Try something completely different, just for you - you don’t have to film it. I do so many different projects so that I don’t get in that rut. Have you tried gel printing? It’s so relaxing because you don’t have to think too much, and you don’t always know how it will turn out. That means you have to adapt quickly, and work with what you’ve got. That could be good for you - a break from being ‘in control’ of all those lines! Having said that, the end results can be used as a base for doodles, if you feel like it, or collage - another relaxing pastime. Treat yourself, break out and have fun!

You are correct of course. And I do play off camera a lot, haha! I have paper and paint all over my work surface and office. I share this space with my husband (thankfully he goes in to work, so I have it to myself 99% of the time) but my stuff is starting to creep more and more into his, haha. I actually think being stuck in a rut is good and healthy, because it helps me think of other things to try out. I may start with familiar strokes and ideas, but then I can feel myself expanding and reaching for other ideas. So I'm not mad about it at all 😊.

This video from your channel came up onto my KZbin screen today and as I have not heard of you or seen you before, decided to take a look. I am so pleased that I did….because I absolutely loved this so much Bettina !! It is exactly the type of art style that I am interested in at the moment and I am going to enjoy watching all of your previous videos. I could relate to absolutely everything you were saying in this video and I felt it was definitely ‘meant to be’ that I watched this today. You’d never bore me. But I do look at the videos of other artists of all sorts. That gives me lots of other ideas to include all together. Maybe you could try that to get inspired to branch out in your own way. Hope that might help you. 5:18
