I’m such a fan of your guys set up!👏🏼 Thanks for the insight on your feeding, super cool to see how/what others feed. Do you feed the arueomycin to keep them healthy during the flush? Or do you give it every year at this time? I’ve not heard of anyone giving it to goats, just cattle so im curious 🤔 we also do a nutrition flush before turning the bucks in! We also feed alfalfa 2x a day with free choice grass hay available 24/7. In the winter we try to free choice alfalfa & our dairy girls stay on alfalfa the whole time they’re lactating. Obviously we can stretch the alfalfa to the Boers & feed more grass hay than to the dairy girls.

We do aureomycin during the flush as a ‘clean up’ to take care of any bacterial infections before breeding, we use it on the weanlings to help prevent pneumonia if they start coughing a lot. Our vet recommended it awhile ago so we incorporate it into our feed program. We feed alfalfa to our does as well during the winter but make sure they also have access to prairie hay. Our grazing pastures are a mix of grass and alfalfa so our goats do get alfalfa year round. We have a couple of dairy crosses in our herd that have adopted bum kids for us since they have the milk supply for it 🙂 thanks for reaching out to us and supporting our channel!

@@DakotaWindMeatGoats I thought I saw a few dairy crosses in your herd as they were walking out to pasture! Thank you for the response 😊

Hello, does the alfafa make them scour, or is it a mix of alfafa mixed with a grass?
@DakotaWindMeatGoats3 ай бұрын
Alfalfa mixed with grass in the pasture; our bales we feed in the winter are straight alfalfa but we also make sure they have a hay bale to switch to as well.
