In this episode the guys discuss mix bus techniques they use for their music. Is analog saturation the secret to a better sounding mix with more perceived loudness? Do you EQ your master buss when it comes to your final prints? Do you use separate busses for your drums, music etc that feed the main bus? Lets find out.

Cubase + FL Studio is the perfect combo. I can sync FL to CB and work in both simultaneously without having to bounce, export and import stems...👌 17:25 What you said about using saturation to create perceived loudness took the words out my mouth. Since giving more attention to my mixbus I also have a new found appreciation for parallel compression. There are so many techniques each producing their own unique sound.

As an old school guy, Devvon, you are the one who helped me the MOST when I started getting back into music and basically doing everything in the box. Screw the haters. There is not a single tip you have given that didn't make sense, and didn't help me dial in my mixing, and quiet as kept, some of the stuff you given, made HUGE impacts on how I approach mixing for live sound! Especially when I get to use waves plug-ins with a live rig. You are killing it! Keep up the good work. Imma ride with you till the wheels fall off.

ill be mixing and realize i have like 8 busses for everything and everything, from instruments to instruments with reverb to random delays to the fully wet signal of everything. busses are really just easier if your really trying to tame things. otherwise you default to just the inserts. i feel like once you know how to mix you dont try and do things rather, you think about what you want and use what you know best to accomplish that. like you hear a boxy vocal, its either eq or multiband comp depending on how clear the vocal is perceived, or if you have a dead mix throw saturation or tweak comp timings. its really just a mash of different techniques to mow the same lawn

My master lately has been. Amek 200 EQ -> Pulsar Mu -> TDR Nova GE -> The Oven -> TDR Limiter 6 (compressor off). All doing something subtle but most the driving is in the Limiter 6. Can't speak highly enough about TDR Limiter 6, with the HF Limiter, soft clipper and limiter in it, took my mixes to the next level. I like The God Particle, but I prefer control. So I use it mostly as like a temp, set it and forget it preview type thing.

I use a lot of isht.. I like God particle.. It adds something to the stereo field that I like.. But I also hardly use limiter because I get enough volume with other plug-ins.. Also black box is good with adding some air.. But as with all these pligins you got to know what it does because other things need to be adjusted like hi hats..

And I do a lot of processing on each track so every element has its track with processing key to that sound and my 808 & kick go direct to the master bus always with key eq on each one with ott on most of my 808's with filter-ms distortion (auturia) but the 808 n kick chain changes up.

Can we get a video on a 2023 Devvon Mix Bus? Hence the one you're mentioning? You are very very good at explaining WHY we do certain things and why we may not want to do certain things. I'm for sure curious on how one would use a 2 limiter set up. In terms of the God Particle, what I always try and deep dive to get answered is this. We know Jaycen Joshua mixes INTO the God Particle and touches nothing (for the most part) He explains this in his Tutorial video on his website. But my question is, is that the SAME file that then gets uploaded to a "Distrokid?" type company? OR does he mean to use the God Particle as a TOOL to get a good MIX (Hit all the greens in the UI) and then when you're done with MIXING, Then turn OFF the God Particle and bounce the file down. > then at that point would ready for the Mastering phase of things?

My mix bus changed over some time but I'm not gonna lie to ya'll lol I def got that God Particle on there. Personally, I throw the Waves Abbey Roads Saturator before it and I go from there. I actually like the limiter on the God Particle. Call me crazy, lol but I think it works better than the Waves L2 limiter(and I've always used that limiter religiously lol). I've even cranked the limiter way past the 5db standard mark and it still "sounds" forgiving. I'm def tryna keep learning with my master bus especially on achieving that loudness! Lol I probably shouldn't be worrying about this but I'm trying to hang in the loudness wars!! If Waves comes out with a "God Particle" like plugin, I'm def coppin LOL

also, plug-in developers do mention not using higher samples rates unless you REALLY think you need it. JJP doesn’t even like sessions at certain sample rates like 48k. he prefers either 44.1 or 96 because he points out the sound difference with how plug-ins work with it. he even called 48 softer.
