There are two types of people in this world,those who are from Cork and those who wish they were.

Strange. I'm Swedish and I understood West Cork accents perfectly when I moved there. Maybe the melody of my mother tongue is more similar to it than the "national" Irish accent.
@smorrow2 жыл бұрын
Well that's interesting because the first foreign woman (0:51) is definitely Swedish IMO and she also doesn't report any difficulty.

@@smorrow I had to listen again. Agree, but I'd like to have heard her speak more to confirm. The long 'a' was Swedish, but I didn't get to hear any soft 's's

There are people in my own family from West Cork that I can't understand. The rural accent is a thing by itself. I remember once wondering if my grandmother and her friend were even speaking English to each other. Turns out they were.

Same. Went to see family in the Clonakilty/Skibbereen area and they might as well have been speaking Spanish for all I understood.

All people in cork think about is how much they drink or how much they eat full stop.

I am a Cork man. and to be fair the west Cork accent is very alien to me! I can understand them but just barely! I imagine that's how anyone in Ireland sounds when they live in the little villages. its nice to see old footage on here :)

+cattlewrangler Calm down man. From someone who lived in both Cork city and county I can say there's benifets for both. Personally I prefer living in the city but that's just me

he was young right? how old is now? hmmm I am not a native speaker of English , and it is too difficult to understand his accent...
@RebsArmy7 жыл бұрын
He was in his mid 20's, and in the interview my dad was trying to put on a Cork accent. In reality he would have had a strong Dublin north side accent, he was just making fun of Cork people, since at the time they were taking jobs on Dubliners. And hes about 59 years old now.

Glad to hear you can afford a dentist when other people can't, but could you perhaps explain the relevance of a woman's appearance to her opinion of your sing-song accent?
