What documents do I need when sponsoring my spouse/common-law partner from outside of Canada?
If you're sponsoring your spouse or common-law partner who lives outside of Canada, you'll need to include the following documents with your application package:
• A copy of a document showing your status in Canada, such as a Canadian passport, permanent resident card, birth certificate or citizenship certificate;
• Proof that any of your previous marriages or common-law relationships has ended, such as divorce or annulment certificates;
• An original "Option C Printout" of your last Notice of Assessment for the most recent taxation year;
• Proof of employment and/or income;
• Proof that you intend to live in Canada with your spouse or common-law partner, if you don't already live in Canada,
Your spouse or common-law partner needs to provide:
• Copies of identity and civil status documents;
• Copies of documents for any dependent children;
• A proof of your relationship;
• Original police certificates;
• Proof of medical examination.
• Two correct sized photos.
