On a personal note, I’m very happy for you that the channel grew so much in 2024, and I hope that trend continues in ’25. I spread the word where I can! Like you, I definitely would also like some news from Ian Fleming Publications about a new James Bond novel (ideally the start of a series, and actually starring James Bond). I’m also planning to visit the 007 Science exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry now that its run has been extended well into 2025. As I have now come to grips with the high probability that we will not be getting any movie news in 2025, I now have to pin my hopes on La-La Land Records to again be my primary source of “official” Bond excitement for the year. With the THUNDERBALL, A VIEW TO A KILL, and GOLDENEYE (and, sure, SPECTRE... but I don’t really care!) anniversaries, I am anticipating expanded and remastered soundtrack offerings from LLLR for at least some -- if not all -- of those. A complete and chronological presentation of Barry’s AVTAK score would be particularly welcome.

1- "The great days of cinema are probably in our rearview mirror." As someone who loves movies, this makes me sad... But it's obviously true. I teach a lot of students who tell me they don't even watch movies because they spend their free time playing video games. And to add even more sadness to this discussion, not a single one of them is a 007 fan. I'm doing what I can, through. 2- James Bond Comics... This makes me happy! I've really enjoyed Phillip Johnson and the comics on Kindle. It's definitely a step up from the days when 007 comics would start a story and not even finish it (A Silent Armageddon). I also recently purchased the omnibuses for the classic comic strips by Jim Lawrence. Great fun! Though surprisingly exploitive for strips that originally appeared in a newspaper.

I think various events, from NTTD creating a literal dead end, to changes in how people watch films, have seen the end of the Bond film series in the traditional sense. It has crept up on us without a big announcement, but the days of going to watch a Bond adventure on the big screen on a semi regular basis seem to be over. The character isn't going away - we might actually get more of him than ever before. Greg Wilson (or another Wilson son) said in an interview a while back that Eon are concentrating more on computer games, and I always remember the 'fun fact' that was floated around years ago that Goldeneye the computer game made more money than Goldeneye the film. Something I wouldn't mind seeing in this new environment is a full length Bond story made with high end animation aimed at the kind of adult audience who watch the live action films. Casting Bond would be a bit easier, you would just need to be someone with a great voice.

These current "wilderness" years remind me of the time between LTK and GE. It seemed like Bond's film series was gone, and honestly, and weirdly, I was fine with that. In my mind, LTK felt like a conclusion to the whole thing, but at least I had 16 (or 17, or 18 😁) films to watch over and over again. I spent my time reading the Fleming novels. Some of the Gardner novels filled the void in my mind as continuations of not only Fleming material, but the films as well. And even though it had no legitimate connection to the movies, I was amused by the James Bond Jr cartoon. There are lots of ways to fill that void, and your suggestions are 👍🏾. And I think that Bond in film will return eventually, and enthusiastically. Kinda like how there's interest in the new Superman film due to its teaser.

I think from 2015 to 2035, we’re going have a lost (double) decade. In that time, we may have only one move: No Time to Die. The good news is that the books enter the public domain in 2035, and other people can start releasing books and movies, minus a few elements particular to the movies.
@AnalyzeThisMisterBond2 күн бұрын
The transition to the public domain will be a mixed bag - it'll be fun to see more Bond stuff, but quality will be all over the map, and you'll get weird stuff like the show ELEMENTARY that riffed on Sherlock Holmes.

I liked Elementary. At least it won’t be a complete roadblock by one person. Maybe other competitors will push EON to action. That’s the whole purpose of intellectual property expiring.

Of all the 2025 film anniversaries, I’m most intrigued by the impending fan focus on AVTAK. 20 years ago it was my dead last favorite Bond film. I watched it a few nights ago and quite enjoyed it, warts and all. Felt like a John Gardner novel put to screen in a way (again, warts and all). I think it’s a perfect time for reappraisal, not that I see it entering the pantheon of classics. Also, I’m hoping for a La La Land release of AVTAK’s score. TB as well.

Best case scenario: Eon and Amazon come to an amicable agreement over the future of the franchise. A clear plan is put forward and agreed by all parties. A release date for Bond 26 is agreed and announced in summer or fall 2025. Given the fact Amazon are putting up the money for Bond 26 (unless there are other investors) Eon Productions will have to compromise. Calling Amazon "fking idiots" is not going to get Amazon on board so Broccoli will have to put her ego to one side, make some compromises and hopefully Amazon do the same. My guess is Amazon will put pressure on Eon to cast an actor that's already worked on an Amazon Prime tv show or film. I don't think that excludes a fairly unknown actor but Amazon may prefer someone they know and have worked with. I don't think Aaron Taylor-Johnson or any other of the other names we hear about will get the role. I think it will be someone relatively unknown (but possibly with limited experience on an Amazon tv show or film). I hated Eon's decision to kill off Bond in NTTD so I would welcome Eon and Amazon going with a 'Bond survives' storyline for Bond 26. Worse case scenario: Eon Productions refuse to work with Amazon because they regard Amazon as unsuitable partners. Amazon file a lawsuit against Eon/Danjaq for unreasonable delay/breach of contract. The lawsuit drags on for a year or more and Amazon win. Eon are found culpable and pay Amazon millions in damages. Barbara Broccoli maintains her position not to work with Amazon. She decides to sell Eon's stake in the franchise to the highest bidder. No Time To Die becomes Eon Productions final James Bond film. 1962 - 2021. Which scenario is more likely? We'll probably know sometime next year. If we approach summer or fall with zero news then it's very likely Amazon and Eon have not found a way past the impasse and litigation will be the obvious course of action. Amazon should litigate if Eon stall for the next 12 months or so.
@AnalyzeThisMisterBond2 күн бұрын
I don't know if there is truly a way Amazon can hold EON accountable for "breach of contract" if EON doesn't move forward on a new Bond movie. EON and Amazon are working together on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so I don't think their relationship is at a full-stop breakdown.

2025 ??? Nothing at all,and this is not a bad thing.i think Bond has been resurrected and rebooted enough ,it's exhausted the possibilities of where a character conceived in the 50s can go,without subverting him completely. So I think the question now becomes are the risks worth the rewards? And the more time goes by the more you run the risk of destroying the legacy. Everything has to end,and Bond has,overstayed his welcome several times.this last stint came close once again to self destruction. And I think the producers, honestly, want to now protect their legacy. Pity they didn't go out after skyfall!!! Which would have been a high.

I don't think the character is exhausted (one reason I love the current comics is that they have a very fresh perspective on the character that feels very contemporary while keeping the essentials intact), but I understand your feelings. I felt similarly to you after DIE ANOTHER DAY came out.

@@ebismusic8813 -- James Bond is a cultural event, like the Super Bowl. People will pay to see it not knowing how it will turn out, only that it will be a good ride. The actor can help it or hurt it, but people come to see a James Bond adventure regardless who plays him.

Video games mean nothing to me. I welcome another legit Bond continuation novel, but that's a little thing. There's isn't much to look forward to in the Bond world without a new Bond film, or at least the news that a new Bond film is coming. Barbara Broccoli is giving Daniel Craig the last word. She doesn't want anyone to follow him. No matter how they lie to the press, there will never be another Bond film. Not ever. She's out of her mind, but there you have it.

Amazon will have to show their card soon, I reckon. This "let's wait and see" approach may be playing into Broccoli's hands. She may be prepared to give up making Bond films. She's 64, her muse, Craig, has left the role. She may not have any enthusiasm to recast the role and reboot the franchise. If she doesn't care that much she may be prepared to stall Bond 26 indefinitely and Amazon will have to litigate. If Amazon want to make new James Bond films and Eon Productions don't want to work Amazon then call Broccoli's bluff. File a lawsuit. If Broccoli doesn't want to face potential legal and financial problems she'll have to compromise. I've no idea if she is prepared to compromise. If she is 100 percent convinced Amazon is the wrong partner for Bond she may be prepared to fight it out in court. She may have an irrational dislike of Amazon. Who knows!
@richardweddle34082 күн бұрын
@@YTguySmithy-lk6go well, you've given some good thought to this. I have some experience with entertainment contracts. I have not read this one, but my understanding is that EON Productions with Barbara Broccoli in charge retains creative control along with the copyright and 50% of the movie rights. Amazon owns the other 50%, but they have no say in how to proceed. EON has been ignoring them for three years. But Barbara Broccoli ignores everybody. amazon just wants EON to DO something, to move ahead with a Bond film. All she has to do to placate amazon is start a Bond film going. They will accept it, whatever it is. Instead she keeps making excuses and ignores them. Now, I don't think amazon's algorithm Bond scenarios are any better than Barbara's last 5 feminist take-downs of Bond, but they don't have to go down that road again. If EON doesn't start a production soon in good faith amazon will be within their rights to litigate, and that won't go well for EON. EON's website reveals that she has dedicated the company to other Daniel Craig projects, but there's no Bond film on the slate. She's obsessed with him, and it's very personal.
