Great video. I have a degree in Economics and I believe, it might be more important to understand the clients business requirements then to be an expert in Python. why I say that: looking for an education or training as a BA almost all courses or university programs focus on coding instead of understanding business data and solutions of real business requirements. Excel, SQL, Phyton ect. are just tools then, but if you don't understand the business problem in the first place, you cannot help your client.
@freshestinclass7633 жыл бұрын
That would be something given the more you interact with clients... you can spend months doing mock problems... which is cool.. but a relationship with your tools of trade in depth is not bad also.

If 20% of product gives 80% of income then should we remove other 80% product or give offer on them?
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
Good question! The answer really is different based on each case. With this particular case, some of that 80% product are easy to add on services. They have a good profit margin and add value to the total service options. Other ones we identified are too much time and effort with a low profit and so will be discontinued.

Hi Jen and @thecareerforce, since I was stuck just below BA level, I just started an intensive 6 month course in Belgium at The Master Labs. We both learn Business and Functional Analyst. I just tried the quiz and got 'lateral positions' as a result. I somewhat expected this. The thing is, I was looking for a guidance towards either FA or BA to start with, so I can learn deeper on one of those paths before starting. Do you have a secondary quiz (or 3th party quiz) that can answer this ? Thanks in advance.
@TheCareerForce4 жыл бұрын
I don't have any additional quiz and I'm not aware of any third party quiz that goes deeper. Both FA and BA are good options. With a FA focus, you're going to have more limited jobs that you have the skills for, but you're also going to be a better match for those jobs. With a BA focus, you'll have a wider variety of jobs, but won't necessarily bring a specialty that makes you stand out more. Hope this helps.

Hi Jen, First off, I would like to thank you for putting up videos like this. Almost all of the "day in the life of a data analyst / business analyst / data scientist" videos out there try to be vlogs - apparently, it is important to know that data / business analysts make cheap ramen. Your video is a goldmine of relevant information for people looking to transition into this field. I appreciate that. Now my question is: What underlying concepts and tools should I know if I want to be able to help a company "standardize and optimize their pricing and quoting system". Did you do most of the work in Excel? Did you end up using any statistical software? Any Machine Learning concepts?
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
I can't believe I missed the ramen-making part of my day! 🤦 Vlogs can be fun to watch, but it does seem like most job day in the life videos focus very little on the actual job. For this particular project which was working with a small company with a relatively small amount of data, I mainly used Excel. If I was working with a larger dataset or more complex inputs, I would have used a statistical software (probably Python, but there are many equally good choices) to analyze trends and additional factors affecting sales conversions. For mocking up a flow and explaining the new pricing process, I used Lucidchart (again, plenty of other comparable mindmap tools exist).

Are you planning on making more videos like this for a data science /data analyst type roles specifically? It seems like data science /analyst are just a more niche aspect of the stuff in this video and probably more common in larger companies where 'business analytics' captures a broad range of disciplines, apart of which are data scientists /analysts. Hi Trehnt, business analysts don't just optimize operations . We first put in the work to understand what the people are trying to achieve out of the process. This is something I talk about on my channel as well: business analysts are not process driven, we are people driven. The big question we ask is what are the people using this process trying to do? Once we understand that, then we can truly design solutions that make their lives easier. Hope that helps!

@TheCareerForce4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I get it from someone in IT. Many of the companies I work with don't even have an internal IT department though. In those cases, I'll work with whoever in the client's organization that's most familiar with the data.
