You don't have an idea of how much u helped me with this video (btw I loved it), I'm 16 and our school doesn't have an librarian bc the govern fired them all (bc of covid) and I volunteered to help them but I was so nervous of how that works lol, thanks for the video, love your humor

In the early stages of applying for my MLIS right now! I've been bouncing around different professional fields since I graduated undergrad and have been pretty dead set on Librarianship for about 6 months now. So excited!

I am leaving the middle school classroom and starting as a high school librarian this fall, so maybe advice for first year librarians?

@@tressyhoofnagle8368 Great question! I'll make a video for that soon... not that I'm an expert by any means lol.

I'm both surprised and thrilled to see such a welcoming and diverse HS library in the south. Also I'm curious, do you take the initiative to create the programs you come up with for the library or does school admin basically say "hey you need to do this many programs/projects in this time frame"? I start my MLIS in 3 weeks so your channel is really helping me get some idea of what to expect if I pursue school librarianship. 😁
@manuscriptsmusickandmore79012 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm lucky in that I can do whatever I want. My administration doesn't give me any guidance. In fact, I really have to advocate for the library and show them the importance of what we do. So many schools (including my previous one) keep cutting librarian positions. I also provide them with a quarterly infographic report as well as an end-of-year report; otherwise they would probably have no idea what I do. I try to invite them to programs and fun activities as much as possible. Good luck with starting your degree! I highly recommend checking out Hilda Weisburg's book "Leading for the School Librarian: There Is No Other Option." It changed my life and has made my job so much more enjoyable. I plan on doing a whole video about it soon!

Since you use Destiny LMS, why don't you utilize Titlewave to do a title analysis? This would break down your entire collection by your diverse content.

Good point! I'll definitely look into that!

So interesting video. Liked it. But DEI audit on the collection really annoys me tbh. I’m Latino but the authors that changed my life were old Roman dudes so you would have reduced those from my experience??? Just get a collection of GOOD books, regardless .

I am a school librarian here in the Philippines and your vlogs are amazing by the way. Do you have assistants in your library?
@manuscriptsmusickandmore79012 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! And I have one library assistant, but she has a lot of other roles in the school but helps with library stuff when she can. I also have 15 student aides (all seniors) throughout the day who help me.

I’m a school librarian at an elementary school now. I’m highly considering making the switch from this setting to a middle or high school library. Any advice from librarians who have done such a switch?
@manuscriptsmusickandmore7901 Жыл бұрын
I actually did half a day at elementary my first year as well and now am completely at the high school level. I also work with a librarian who was at the elementary level for many years and just spent her first year at the high school level last year. Let me come up with some tips and check with my coworker as well, and then I'll make a whole video about it! :) But let's just say that my coworker and I agree - high school is definitely where it's at!!!

Hi, I may have missed it while watching the video but who did you end up inviting to the Book Bistro? The book club or certain classes, others?
@manuscriptsmusickandmore79012 жыл бұрын
I actually had quite a few English classes come and do the activity (about 12 classes). Hopefully, I'll have all of the classes come and do it next year! I'm one of the few high school librarians who is lucky enough to have all of our English classes visit the library once a month. :)

So do you have regular classes?
@manuscriptsmusickandmore79012 жыл бұрын
I'm in a strange position. Normally, high school librarians don't have regular classes or any kind of fixed schedule. They are purely flexible. However, our English department has every student read one book every month, so each class does come once a month for us to do a fun activity or watch book trailers and check out books. Last year, we had 8 English teachers, so I did have classes 8 out of about 20 school days a month. The other days are purely flexible. I really like the schedule because I actually get to see so many students on a regular basis. This is rare in high schools!
