Being a project engineer sounds exciting! Is there always something new everyday or does the work become repetitive?
@TreyTan3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes there is always something new each day and while it may look fun on the outside, in reality it's a pretty tedious job with lots of things to remember, lots of work to complete. However, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing the building come to life. Hope that helps!

Great video! I just graduated with a business administration and management degree and I want to work as a engineer. How do I land that row when I don’t have any construction experience but I have over 12 years of client relations experience? If you can give me any advice in getting my foot in the door when it comes to project engineer, I would greatly appreciate it!

Great video very informative. I have 2 questions : What is the difference between project engineer and project manager? And how much theoretical civil engineering knowledge is involved?
@TreyTan3 жыл бұрын
Project Engineer usually is an entry level position whereas a Project Manager has 3-4 years of industry related experience or more. In the end, theory is just theory, some may apply in the real world but not all as we live in an everchanging world. The only difference between the two is real-world experience.

Any advice for experience to become a Project Engineer? I'm currently entering my senior year in pursuing my BS in Construction Management and have been working in Facilities Management. I've been trying to figure out a summer job next year to help ensure I am on the right track to becoming a PE. Thank you so much for the videos!

Intern for a large general contractor (Clark, Whiting-Turner, Turner etc). They usually hire the majority of new employees straight out of internship programs and you can get a sense of it you will enjoy the work. Currently a project enginner

Hii Trey I have a quick question for you. I am an international student and I did my bachelor's from India in civil engineering and pursuing masters in US in engineering management so my bachelor's degree is valid for US and I can apply as a project engineer or transportaion engineer ?? Thank you

What’s the diff between project manager and Project engineers
@TreyTan3 жыл бұрын
Project manager could do everything a PE would do, but delegate it to the PE. The PE basically just assist the PM. Once the PE is good at his/her job, then the PE would become a PM. PM also will be responsible for cost control, scheduling, pulling permits, and risk management.

I just graduated and am going to start my position as a FT Project Engineer in about a month. I have not had any experience/internships in this field before so I am nervous about being underprepared. Do you have any advice on what I should know by my first day?
@vxshv__9492 жыл бұрын
can i ask what all you studied?
@wilsongray43162 жыл бұрын
Same boat as you. Can you share any advice if you've got any. I know the company will train you on everything that needs to be known and carry a note with you to keep track of stuff.
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Natalie, if i were you, try studying the terminologies of construction. Like what is an RFI, submittal, change orders, etc. Then watch free PE videos on KZbin. This video shows you what your day to day life would look like kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGHKo2apmJyeZ7s&lc=UgyRkhmD9VRCvsi-fnB4AaABAg

construction management or civil engineering
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it helps to do some research before your first day. Your company would train you and you can also be honest with them and say it's your first time, please be patient etc. Most colleagues would also treat you nicer when you tell them upfront that this is all new to you.

I got a offer to work as a project engineer but Im not really interested and I'm thinking switching to BIM . Im now located in UK and hold a construction management degree , could you please give some advice to me?
@TreyTan3 жыл бұрын
Yeah so if you do not want to be a PE, then try looking for BIM positions. Start with BIM Modeler/BIM Specialist positions. See if you could work your way up to becoming a BIM Manager. I believe UK has plenty of opportunities for that.

What is difference between assistant project engineer and project engineer
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
Assistant PE would support the PE. Both report to the PM. Honestly, i rarely see anyone hired on as assistant PE.
@dilanlol60462 жыл бұрын
to become a project engineer, does it require a bachelor degree?
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
You can either get a bachelor degree in construction engineering or management, or start as a tradesman in construction and work your way up. Hope that helps.

Were you initially a field engineer coming out of college or did you go straight into a PE position?
@TreyTan3 жыл бұрын
Hey Thomas, so I started as a BIM Engineer out of college. However, while I was in college I had some PE experience which was how I got to do PE work now.

Just curious I have a bachelors in computer information systems. Do you know any way of getting into project engineering without a construction engineering degree? Thanks.
@manny33322 жыл бұрын
I’m also intrigued by this, my thought was to apply for a civil engineering masters, and then go into project engineering but don’t know if that’ll work
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
So with CIS I would say it's not related to construction mgmt. If you want, you can get a minor in construction mgmt and try to get a foot in the door. I've seen people do that and it worked. But your opportunities might be limited. However, it's worth the try. Good luck
@TreyTan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Manny, that will work. I've seen people do that before.
@manny33322 жыл бұрын
@@TreyTan thanks for your reply Trey, really considering it as I don’t like computer science at all, I am interested in civil as it’s the only engineering I’ve ever been interested in but went into computer due to people saying there’s high demand. Is civil worth it salary wise? As I’ve heard it’s a very low paying field.
@kolayskyboy26745 ай бұрын
Civil will make you deal with uneducated labours, going to ouside to visit the site where everything is happening, but IT make you stay inside, in the office area. Don't choose the wrong career. You can be a project engineer in computer system, leading your team@@manny3332

What is the most difficult question during interview based on your experience as a PE?
@TherealBrianmoser17 Жыл бұрын
So how do u get a degree on that subject or what’s it called
@jarskil8862 Жыл бұрын
Atleast here there is no any specific degree for it. You can become project engineer with any technical degree. I graduated as process engineer and my job as project engineer was to make sure the mechanical engineers design correct machines on time with client wanted specs. It was full office work tho. Some small visit at workshop to go see how machining and assembly of the machines was going, so could write a raport to client.
