The nice thing about buying the way you did is that animal likely had a good life. When I was growing up we raised all our meat.all our animals were actually loved and we'll taken care of they only had one bad second at the end. Also when you buy that way your supporting a local farmer. I think you did well. good luck and enjoy your beef.

I'll be purchasing a quarter beef in May. But, the beef I buy is from Nebraska, Oak Barn Beef. I live in Florida and would absolutely love to support local farmers, but the prices are so high now....that I can't purchase from them.

I always buy a full cow, it now ranges between $1700 - $2500 fully processed depending on the weight.

in wyoming total final weight (what you actually get), for half 5.9-6.4, for whole 5.3, including processing fee. For example whole cow of angus half/half jersey steer (thats a breed) cost 2000, for 378 pounds final weight. Half of cow, usually 179-240lbs depending on breed goes for 1150-1500. The whole 1800-2100$ and you get 338-401lbs. Comes all vacuum sealed, frozen, never fed grain. Found it on becker family stock farm, its near Thermopolis, WY.

Next door in Wisconsin, we just ordered a 1/4 for ourselves. We paid the farmer $3/lb and the processor $1/lb. Hanging weight for our 1/4 was 206lbs. We have not yet received it to see what our yield ended up being. We primarily got steaks, roasts, and ground beef.
@WithFrankie10 ай бұрын
Nice price! I bet part of that is getting it straight from the farm. Less hands changed less cost. You're gonna love how much better it tastes than stuff from the grocery store. 😊

4.95 a pound hanging weight here in oregon. we have ordered some stuff from them before (better beef company) and really liked it so decided to go ahead and order a quarter. thanks for the breakdown so i have an idea of what we might end up with!

That's an amazing price! I'm jealous! Thank you for watching. I'm glad the video was helpful. 😊

Did you buy a fore quarter or hind quarter or a 1/4 share of a whole carcass ? Sirloin comes from the rear, chuck or arm comes from the front. So if you get both you must have a share of a whole side.
@WithFrankie6 ай бұрын
1/4 share. As mentioned, I picked which cuts I wanted. They came from different quarters of the cow.

Wow, if they short changed you that many pounds of meat I definitely would be calling this company up. Thanks for posting those food safety websites. I just recently did a deep dive on e coli 0157 in preparation of a upcoming jerky video. This looks like a good resource. I bookmarked their website. Thanks for sharing!

We will be going to the butcher to pick up our Jerky in a few days….i will ask if they will allow me to film, they have all sorts of stuff you can buy right there….like dog food, cow tongue, heart, soup bones….just a lot of different meats.
@jthedream2523 күн бұрын
You forgot to mention they also say "bearded butchers" over and over and over in multiple different videos, the retail cut side versus the custom cut side are very different. There's some cuts that you get retail. not every butcher will do every cut. It's time and profit.
@mrsseasea12 күн бұрын
Really depends on where you live, my husband and I raised 5 children they are in the 30’s 40’s now but we bought full cow from a local farm and the butcher would call; how do you want your cut? Do you want the soup bones? Tallow? Etc…..look for a local farmer, we now buy just half a beef, think in total we have been buying full or half cow for 38 years. Wow kinda strange to say. We just received our half it was 1,200.00 and cut wrap and putting the cow down was 340.00. (i think).

What you bought is a combo of the front and back quarters, having been in the meat industry for 50 years, I think I should know 🤤😂🧐

In fl it really is expensive to find bulk beef. I have been wanting to buy a 1/4 but it’s too expensive here it’s cheaper to get it shipped from another state. That might be what I’ll do…
@catielauren10074 ай бұрын
How would you go about finding a local farm?
@WithFrankie4 ай бұрын
I won't try to find out where your local farmer's market is. Local meat producers often set up at them to sell their product. Otherwise the state you live in, or local groups, may have an online resource with local meat, produce, and food (like baked & canned goods) listed.

Great video Frankie. I've recently ordered a quarter beef myself but it hasn't been delivered yet. I'm excited to see how the process goes for me compared to your experience. Are you following a carnivore diet for all this meat?
@WithFrankie10 ай бұрын
I generally follow a keto/low carb based diet. Most of my cheat days are made into content 😆 You're going to LOVE having a freezer full of meat!

When you say you bought a quarter of a beef, did you mean a fore quarter, a hind quarter or a quarter of the entire hanging weight? I curious because you got parts of both fore and hind quarters.
@WithFrankie6 ай бұрын
A quarter hanging weight. So parts from different sections.

Oh, I know. Legend has it in my family that when my dad would butcher I would stand and wait for the hearts. When I saw my first cow heart apparently my eyes went wide because it was so much bigger than the goat and chicken ones. Every deer season I ask my dad and brothers to save me the heart. :-)

What is the grade of the beef

Hi ,Im a new subscriber, Ive been searching for a farmer to purchase 1/2 a cow , We got an email yesterday from CROSGRAY farms They wanted $800 for a deposit then in july before shipping $5,200 . They have 1/4 cows and 1/8 cows . But omgish $6,000 for 1/2 cow . Could you state where you got that 1/4 cow from as we are willing to drive . God bless you Mrs josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏
@WithFrankie10 ай бұрын
That's outrageous! 😳 Unfortunately my beef comes from Minnesota and that's probably not worth the drive. 😄 I'd try the states surrounding you and maybe find some FB groups related to bulk beef and see if you can find a better deal. With prices like those I can only imagine that there HAS to be better prices somewhere around you. However, I've been reading pieces on the nationwide beef inventory dropping to historic lows (2 years in a row now) and that's probably going to make prices stay insane and get worse. Hopefully the issue is fixed soon but in the meantime it's going to make buying beef, no matter the quantity, uncomfortable. Welcome to my channel! I hope you find some things you like. ☺️
