It's actually easier to drive prices of things down than increase wages. A salary increase has to be equal across the board otherwise people with less increase end up getting it worse. Driving prices down is equal for everyone and easier to implement. Oh, but it's better with Brexit, so we can't be part of a bulk buying group, and oh, it's better to fund a war and buy more expensive gas and oil. The solution is simple, but no one is implementing it, and no one wants to implement it.

Young people aren’t motivated to work hard because the right incentives are no longer in place. The salaries offered nowadays are not allowing them to build lives like their parents’. Why would anyone want to work when they have given up the idea of ever owning property, being able to support a family and have a solid standard of living. Working to death to barely make ends meet? Why would anyone want to do that? Better then to stay home and have small lives. It’s so effing tragic.

MOTIVATION has to be present if you want people to WANT to go to work. Intelligent people can look around, and look at history, look at their own experiences, and they can see that there is no MEANING in the jobs that are offered - nothing to connect to. Everything is owned by faceless, inhuman corporations (or the governments the corporations own) who care only for the next quarter's earnings, and nothing for those who make the money for them. Why would ANYONE want to work for them? The fear of homelessness, poverty, etc only goes so far.

@23erisx can you elaborate on the point: “no meaning in the jobs to connect to”? Is it a matter of salary and tax, or something more philosophical like performing the job doesn’t make you feel like you’re contributing to society as a whole? I mean surely nobody would like to starve or be homeless when you can just work a few hours a day to not be so (under the assumption that the salary is enough to achieve that)

If I was young now I wouldn't want to work, the motive for working is that you can eventually have a home of your own. Why work if three quarters of your income is taken as rent by a vulture fund? Why bother to make a stable relationship, why bother to have children? The deification of greed and superfluous wealth is destroying our culture, and politics has become a branch of merchandising where rich people offer a penny off the income tax to get your vote and anyone offering real change or real solutions is drummed off the podium. Give the young a share in this world! Give them a motive to live! They weren't born second class citizens, they were just born after the people who snapped up all the real estate. Some joined up thinking please.

I'm not surprised that poor mental health is the biggest reason why my generation aren't able to work. Even when they do go back to work, it's not as if they're going to be able to feasibly afford to own their own house unless their family will be subsidising the cost somehow in the vast majority of cases. It's really easy to see why some people will just choose to be on benefits if all they can hope to achieve by working is paying off some other person's mortgage quite frankly. In addition, it's really disgusting to hear from other well educated people around my age who are simply resigning themselves to a life of renting - if that's the future we have, I don't see anything but disparity among the rich and poor.
@benjamindover4337

You can't simply 'choose to be on benefits'. The system is designed to appease an electorate that lacks the slightest clue how the system functions, and who accuse each other on their own street of being 'on the fiddle'. The justice system is designed so that it's better nine guilty go free rather than one innocent is punished; the benefits system is the inverse of that.

I’d love to work more but I’m caring for a disabled person. The disabled person is supposed to be entitled to means tested social care, but despite needing 24/7 care, I get a max of 4hrs per week off over two days. There are not many jobs that will hire you for 2hrs work per day. I begged them to let me work more and they just tell you the social care budget won’t cover it. So do I leave the disabled person to die or do I care for them even though it means giving up a well-fought-for career? Unpaid carers save this country £162 billion per year - the country would be bankrupt without their unpaid labour. Every time a carer gives up because they’re too exhausted, that costs us collectively. Tories are sociopaths - it’s just facts that they’re letting us peasants die now; in long ambulance waits, long cancer diagnosis waits, scrapping of social care services for severely disabled people and so on. That's exactly what wealthy people want - a return to the Victorian era where the majority of people worked for low wages to service wealthy people in their mines, mills, fishing fleets, gardens and as actual servants, and either had their own needs met in a meagre way, or had to buy what they needed on credit from shops owned by their employers.

The sick and disabled don't pay tax they say? Oh but they DO.... they pay tax on almost everything they buy, they pay tax on fuel, they pay tax on certain foods, certain household goods, on consumer electronics, on equipment to help with their illness or disability, they pay higher interest rates on loans because they're poor .... just because they don't pay income tax, doesn't mean they don't pay tax. There's plenty of other taxes that get paid indirectly. But that is conveniently over looked, as if you're not economically active you aren't propping up the system that keeps the rich, rich. The lie that you NEED a new car every 3 years and a phone every 2......that only exists to drive corporate profits. Also the majority of the poor people's money goes straight back into the economy, they use it to survive. Give a millionaire a tax break and they hide the money off shore and hoarde it. The sick and disabled don't.... they SPEND the money which is actually GOOD for the economy. Yet we still get the demonisation of the poor, the sick, the disabled.... and even the homemaker... heaven forbid that someone stays at home to look after family! GET BACK TO WORK!

Can't speak for the UK, but as a "young" person of working age for the last 15 years in the US, I have to say that hopefully, it cripples the economy to the point where the status quo is no longer tenable and capitalism itself has to change. I speak for myself when I say my underemployment has been a deliberate choice made in response to abusive and exploitative working conditions, and the government/system of laws that protects the "ownership" class at the expense of poor and working class people. We are not slaves, we are not serfs, and we have a right to spend our lives working to better ourselves and the world around us - if it takes dropping out of the mainstream economy to achieve this for ourselves, so be it.

MENTAL HEALTH BURDEN The effects of a lot of the pressures below, are seen in a rapid increase in mental health problems across all ages, but especially in the young working adults, adults who should if anything, be the most resilient of society. Regardless of political party, many in the UK have lost faith that the government and the civil service will stop the uncontrolled legal migration - note that is legal, the side of migration that we most have control over. The effects of uncontrolled migration are seen in: - increase of people on benefits. See the governments data of unemployment by ethnicity - despite the image fed to us, white British have the lowest unemployment rate compared to all other ethnicities. - artificially lowering the minimum wage due to an abundance of cheap imported labour. We have parts of the indigenous population that rely heavily on low paid low skilled jobs, and they are having to compete with people who are used to earning below the poverty level of Africa, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East etc - increase in house prices and rental prices - more building on our protected Green Belt land due to the housing pressure - more building on existing buildings and causing social tension as people live cheek by jowl. Legislation has been relaxed to encourage this in building. The UK already has some of the smallest homes, compared to Europe. - increase in violence and crime. There is a general increase, plus some which is specific to certain ethnicities. Knife (and machete) crime is more frequent, however whilst it captures the headlines, many other forms of crime, not typical to the indigenous population are flourishing. The Asian (Indian subcontinent) honour killings, and grooming gangs rap_ing/assaulting/drugging white children. - increased demand for extra policing, in the tens of thousands (look at the different police force's online wanted pictures, there is a disproportionately higher number of foreign criminals, especially as a proportion of the population) - increased demand for prison officers, and prison buildings (look at the prison population, where there is again a disproportionately higher number of foreign criminals, as a proportion of the population). We are already releasing criminals early, and not imprisoning others, due to a lack of prison places! And the increase in taxes to pay for these services and buildings. - increased demand on the judiciary. Our courts are blocked with massive queues, and everything is done to delay cases going to the CPS or going to court. We have a lack of staff and buildings. Very serious cases are rarely reaching the CPS or courts, or take years to go through the system. This causes a lack of justice, an increased risk to the population as criminals continue to live amongst us, and it encourages crime (justice needs to be swift to act as a deterrent). - the loss of our capital city London. It is now predominantly populated by people who self identify as belonging to an ethnic minority. You rarely hear English spoken! This will impact tourism - a quarter of a million people work in the tourism sector in London alone. - greater difficulty in seeing a healthcare professional, especially one that speaks fluent clear English, be it a GP, Consultant, or dentist - hospitals frequently declaring emergencies, as their A&E queues of ambulances with patients stuck in them grow longer. Even hospitals, in areas with a vast majority of white British population, if you go to the A&E it will be full of people from the middle east, Indian subcontinent, and Africa. Often you won't hear English being spoken! - increased burden of disabled children, on healthcare, special education needs, and benefits (both for disability, and for the unemployed parents that stay at home caring for their disabled children), unnecessarily caused by cousin marriage, from people from the Indian subcontinent - lack of school and university places. Pressures to change what is being taught, to suit a minority religious population - the enormous congestion on all our roads. Even country lanes, which were once peaceful, have now become rat runs - religious and social tension, especially from ethnicities that are not interested in integrating - increased suffering of female children subjected to FGM and child marriage - increased distortion of UK elections, as women from the Indian subcontinent lose their vote to their husbands - loss of money spent in the UK economy, as migrants send it back to their countries of origin MORAL QUESTION - is it morally right to import cheap labour to be exploited? And what about those skilled migrants, eg nurses and doctors, that are actually needed in their own country. Is it morally right for the UK to benefit from poorer countries paying to educate and train skilled workers? FINANCIAL BURDEN In March 2024, the UK National Debt is over £2.90 trillion! Watch it growing in real time: www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk BIRTH RATE FALSE THEORY Some people believe in the theory, that we need to import people because of our lower birth rate, and that there is certain work that we don't want to do. This ignores the fact that we need to increase productivity, especially with automation/robotics/AI (Artificial Intelligence), because other countries will certainly be investing in this, and all of these REDUCE job vacancies - there will be fewer jobs in the near future! Our population might not apply for very low paid jobs, eg picking fruit, or nursing the elderly, but that is because the rates of pay are ridiculously low. Pay a fair wage in an economy that doesn't tilt the table by importing cheap labour! Young indigenous couples, avoid having children because they cannot afford to have them, or don't have the economic and housing stability that they need. This responsible approach to reproducing, is not shared by migrants coming to the UK - they are prepared to live in poverty, and have their families subsidised by the UK taxpayer. WHAT CAY YOU DO? Please watch, action, and share this Simon Webb KZbin video: A Parliamentary petition to suspend immigration to Britain for five years And vote for Reform UK. Regardless of if you think this will give the results that we need, it is important for people to see, that there are many others who share their concerns, and this is one very simple and quick way to do it. Many thanks, and don't forget to share👍

Why are retired people ebing included in this statistic? They already worked, that's why they aren't working. Same with students, most aren't allowed to work. Really strange to included these groups. Is it to inflate the numbers? Because if you are looking on the actual number of people that could be consider is actually 3.9 million. If you are retired, a student or looking after family (means you do that because it is cheaper to have someone at home) you should not be included.

Jobs are a lot more demanding these days. My uncle who was a mail man for years said he wasn’t going to retire because he liked doing it but then they started implementing trackers, and pushing for greater efficiency. I think this happens at a lot of jobs as I am seeing companies cut jobs and combining roles thus doubling work loads for no extra pay. My last two jobs everyone was extremely unhappy.

Weirdly enough, I’ve not been in a career for the past 12 years. My life has been chaotic due to many ups and downs and specifically ill health. I’ve now lost a lot of weight. Gone back to Uni dropped out went back again and was only able to get a diploma. You can’t claim benefits either if you have savings of around £3000 and plus I don’t ever want to. I’m working to build myself online and have built a good foundation to grow on. I think this could be a potential blind spot the government have failed to see. They should really have an alternative approach to millennials too and support them with a grant to start up as an independent creator like they did with their campaign to get the UK online a while back. I still don’t earn enough and am living at home something I’ve been trying to leave for a long time. I’ve volunteered on and off in between. Other than that, I also had long covid and bad anxiety. I think apprenticeships don’t work either as you have to have all GCSE’s of 5 subjects at a-c grades that means it’s pretty difficult to get anywhere.
