This is what we call rich people problems. However, I can see how it affects everyone. Ty Dr.

Haha yes rich people problems. The viewership for this video is way down compared to others, which I thought might be the case :) I know a fair bit about startups though so I thought it was still worth making.

Wait... the employees have to buy their vested equity???
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
Typically yes, if the company is giving out stock options rather than equity directly, which is the vast majority of the time. Weird isn't it?

Great video. Outstanding. Please make a video about what functions an AGI would need that the current models don't have.

Thank you! Appreciate it. I think you've asked for this topic before so maybe time to put it at the top of the list.

Not quite on the equity. First not all equity is in the form of "stock options". For options the employee does (kinda) need to pay for the shares (at the grant price, not the current price). I say kinda because it is common for these programs to allow for selling the options without requiring payment where the employee recieves the difference. But employees can also be granted equity - not options. In this case the employee is literally given shares or an ownership stake and the employee does not have to pay anything. Both are pissible, I have received both in the past. Also 4 years is not a standard. I've often had equity that vested over 3 years. I've also had equity that vested due to passing milestones / co pleting some agreed upon condition.

I think there are too many timestamps. I dislike it and its probably extra work for you. Anyways, love what you do.

Thanks. I try to put one every 30-60 seconds right now. You think maybe half as many would be good? Or fewer?
@roccov19726 ай бұрын
@@DrWakuI’d vote for fewer. But I watch the whole videos anyway. Thanks!

Please make a video about what advantages an AGI would have over a human brain, due to running in a computer.

Great ideas. Keep them coming :)

Human communication speed is 38 bits per second. AGI or ASI can process 2 MB per second and with enough compute it can scale to GB or TB per second. That means reading speed is already hundreds of thousands of times faster, and soon millions or billions of times faster. It also affects writing speed, which is useful in CoT (chain of thought) style problem solving where it needs an inner monologue to help guide it to the answer. So, communication speed is crucial. For both reading data as well as the inner monologue speed in CoT.

Thank you for the video! Do you think that there are any grounds for an anti-trust case with Nvidia and/or OpenAI?
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
With Nvidia, I would say yes because of the way they guard their cuda ecosystem. With OpenAI, probably yes as well because you could say that Microsoft effectively bought them without undergoing a merger review that would be needed for any purchases by such a large company.

Lol. Also, just fyi, not everyone considers that growth and change of startups high stress. I love working at startups: changing, adapting and learning on the fly is fun. I find working for large corporations where they slot you into a cookie cutter position and you get in trouble for going outside your lane way more stressful. But most startups aren't well funded so large cotps tend to pay much better. 😢

What about Private Equity?
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
Much the same as venture capital. The details of deals are kept private even if it's venture capital. I guess maybe even valuations might be kept secret for private equity.

What's exactly the benefit of this equity if you have to buy it?
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
Hopefully, you sell it at a higher price than you bought it for.
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
If the company is doing well, the stock price can be expected to go up. Also, you might get a discount on purchasing it so you might be able to purchase it and then sell it immediately and still turn a profit.

I don't think that you should be using the term "exercising equity", rather "exercising equity options". I know that you're trying to keep this as simple as possible, but the next time someone encounters related terms he or she may be confused.
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
Fair enough. I usually hear it as equity or stock options, but it might make more sense if I had said "options".
@ScottSummerill6 ай бұрын
So, boy this sounds like crap. You elect to take a low salary and a higher equity but then you have to buy the equity. Screwy.
@DrWaku6 ай бұрын
Yeah exactly. I don't think everyone who works at a startup knows this is what they're signing up for.
@leeroyjenkins06 ай бұрын
It's a stock option. They don't all work like that. If you get compensated with actual shares you don't have to buy them. In this case the contract is that they get an option (to buy shares at a, hopefully favorable, price). That's fine. The issue is if you want to compensate me in options and then don't allow me to exercise the option, that's either a breach of contract or a shitty contract. Same if the shares are not transferable. If you're going to pay me in equity I want the same rights as any other shareholder.
