This is a good reminder of how far away our moon is! It takes a full MONTH while some other moons orbit in a few days. With a telescope, from other planets the Earth and Moon are sometimes more than just a dot, sometimes they’re two very visible dots :D

Great point. Sometimes I wish the moon was closer so I wouldn’t have to go weeks on end without imaging with my telescope… the thing really drowns out the night sky.

@ for REAL! I’m lucky I got my star tracker at this time, while the moon is still swinging across the day side, but it’s not too long until the skies turn a gentle blue at night ;-;

it would be nice to have the apperent magnitude values on each location

You’re right. I’m planning a more in-depth part 2 that shows differences between opposition and conjunction, and I’ll add magnitudes too.

I think it’s quite surreal that we are the brightest object in Venus’ night sky

Once humans are on Mars and on the Moon, they'll point their telescopes to Earth. 😊

Now I know why they called Neptune after the god of the sea, I mean, Neptune is 4x bigger, but it’s so far away. Not surprised some thought it was a ocean planet back then.
@Tharsis_Күн бұрын
Nobody had the idea that it was an ocean planet back then, astronomers had a good idea that Neptune was a massive gaseous planet before we even actually saw it. We noticed that Uranus' orbit was being perturbed by what had to be another massive object beyond Uranus. When we calculated the size and location of where this massive object would need to be to cause these perturbations, we knew it had to be another massive gaseous planet because of it's size and location in the solar system. We only named Neptune after the Roman god of the sea because of the blue color of it's atmosphere, not because we initially thought the blue color was liquid water on the surface of a terrestrial planet.

I challenge you to find Earth starting at Abell 1413 BCG, the big dominant elliptical galaxy in the Abell 1413 cluster 2.1 Billion light years away, 2 times further than IC 1101

And you based that on what? Somehow the earth looks bigger to Jupiter than Jupiter looks to the earth? Reeeed
@hansenspace2 күн бұрын
It was done through a simulator called Space Engine. And I confirmed all of the angular sizes were correct. And Earth in fact does not look larger in Jupiter’s skies than vice versa. Through the same telescope, you’d see a lot of detail in Jupiter, but Earth and the Moon only appear as a small dots from Jupiter.
