Laguna and Squall both had 1 thing in common. Selfless companions who would do anything to be by his side and see him succeed.

Very true. And something which Squall notes when he meets Laguna in Esthar later :D -Jack

It wasn't duty that kept Laguna from being a father, it was a trope. He went to rescue Ellone and Ellone found Squall, so it was to keep Squall an orphan and not have a familial tie that JRPGs seem to hate. Even when they meet, it means nothing because it would add a context the game didn't' want to develop. It made him a deadbeat out of convenience to the narrative.

That's one interpretation. Squall actually meets Laguna and talks about what he learnt from travelling back to his time though, and Ellone literally says that travelling to the past can give you information to inform decisions in the present. All the peices of the jigsaw are there - Jack

@@EXP-Podcast I'm not sure what any of that had to do with Laguna not putting in the same effort to find his son as he did for Ellone, nor why the obvious wasn't discussed between them. As I said, it's a trope and didn't want to cross the line of having a father-son talk. They literally go their sperate ways by the end with nothing said. It's not believable writing.
