This is between $80 - $100 USD in my area. There's no way I am paying that for a 40%-er when I can get something with really good specs and flavor, like a Speyburn 15, for $65. I realize that I am not their target consumer, but if Glenlivet added something to their core range like the limited edition Glenlivet 12 Illicit Still (48%, NCF, delicious and $60) then I would be a more eager customer. They are capable of making something really worth buying and, given that this year is their 200th anniversary, I sure hope that they will. Cheers!

Interesting, my own current experience with this whisky matches your comments largely. I was pleasantly surprised by it's nose and it really is a rather enjoyable whisky. It isn't world class, it's not some amazing complex dram, but it has just enough in it to make it rather pleasant (there's that word again). When it comes to Price AUD 180 equates to 93 GBP. It retails here in the UK at 52 GBP and I managed to pick up a bottle from a Facebook market for a mere 30 GBP. At 30 GBP it represents a bargain, but I certainly would not pay the 50 GBP as there are so many other good whiskys in that range even in the supermarkets. If I'm paying 50 in a supermarket, I'm eyeing up a Caol Ila 12 or perhaps a Lagavulin 8.
@McIntyresMalts11 ай бұрын
100% Value is subjective and a base line to how we measure something's worth. Getting this for £30 makes it a fantastic whisky, paying £93 would make it terrible.
@meepmeep71658 ай бұрын
Just FYI you can't equate aud to gbp via exchange rate. Oz has: higher spirit tax and transport costs to get it from the UK. Agree thought that $180 is steep

My favorite Glenlivet. I highly recommend trying this when drinking this 15yrs Glenlivet. Take a small sip and swing it back and forth just on the "tip of your tongue." (3-5 time). I'm not gonna spoil the surprise. Give that a try and tell me what you think?
@McIntyresMalts11 ай бұрын
I was intrigued with your suggestion! I just poured a dram and tried it, but I'm not sure I'm doing the technique right because nothing is happening for me 🤷♂️
@audes.443311 ай бұрын
@McIntyresMalts ok... I'll try to explain the technique better. You know the wine sommelier wine tasting technique? It's very similar to that technique (as though you're whistling). Do this whistling technique, but have the whiskey just move back/forth at the tip of the tongue. I apologize for not being more clear on the technique. I hope this time around you'll get to experience what it is that I was trying to share. The object is to get as much oxygen moving back/forth on the tip of the tongue to open up the notes. If the technique is done right, you should experience a "Very" smooth, creamy, and a sweet lingering taste.

Trite but true: single malt prices have gone bonkers. I bought the Glenlivet 15 YO for AUD$92 in 2018. Like you say, Wade, it's currently around $170-180. Has the quality also doubled in the last 5-6 years, I wonder?

I would love to see distiller put the same spirit in French and Bourbon cask, preferably above 46%, un-chillfiltered and taste them as a pair. Interestingly new French Oak barrels are around 200% more expensive than American Oak (Bourbon) barrels and in wine would be considered more elegant than American Oak. $180AUD!!....... I got a Springbank 10 for that recently
@McIntyresMalts11 ай бұрын
Yep, I would take a Springbank 10 for the same price over this every single day of the week, no questions. Perhaps it's the barrel composition driving up the cost here, but it hasn't been done well enough to justify the asking price at all.

Ooh love this question! Not sure what you have available to you where you are so I will give a few approaches here. 5 you likely have access to that I recommend -Lark -Overeem -Archie Rose -Bakery Hill -Starward (mostly likely to find, but it's not a good representation of the real quality whisky from my country) 5 Aussie whiskies I recommend if you can hunt them down -Morris -Sullivan's Cove -Cape Byron -Highwayman -Amber Lane Alternatively, if you want to let me know what you are already aware of and what you have access to (and what profile you enjoy) I can let you know which ones of those I think are worth your time 😊 Thank you for the great question!

@@JimmyJamaltm The Morris Muscat Barrels was one of my top 5 whiskies tried last year, really loved that one! I also have a bottle of the smoked version, but haven't yet tried it. I expect it to be amazing based on how good the standard bottling is, and how much I love smoky whisky, so I would have to say those ones are the stand outs on the list for me. Starward isn't the best representation of Australian whisky IMO, I don't really rate it personally, but I know it's about the easiest Aussie whisky to find overseas, so worth trying if you want to experience an Australian whisky, but don't use it as the bar to set the standard by.
