Philosophers get sad when they ask why. Logically, the pragmatic way of following life without questioning why is the better option as you don't become sad.

@@harpot678 Claiming one doesn't get sad when not questioning things is wrong in my opinion. Sure you tend to live an easier life, but when both encounter sudden chaos or catastrophe, I think the one questioning things will be able to come up with something that could help him, while the one who doesn't would just drift off into deep agony, not knowing how to get out. Not saying a (let's call him) philosopher would do better in general, just saying he would be better equipped for these scenarios.

I don't really get it either. Buddha "self-actualized" trying to get rid off the entire pyramid, and understood the pyramid was exactly what he needed in order to have this epiphany of "self-actualization". So, in a way, what is lost can be retrieved, and knowing you CAN have it, because you had it before, seems to be more important than actually having it, as long as you learn to let the experience go (detach) without letting go of the feeling.
@olli3b3ar27
@olli3b3ar27 3 жыл бұрын
@@DarkAngelEU "self-actualisation" is weird hippy bullshit tbh, also detachment without letting go is impossible. You cant reject attachment to an experience without first sacrificing some of the experience. Weather you choose the full experience or to remain a bystander to your own experience is neither here nor there and both are valid ways to live, but both is not an option.

Self actualization seems less like a goal or endpoint in and of itself, but a means of recognizing and pursuing one's own goals with their inevitable human limitations in mind. Additionally, critical thinking and self awareness appear vital for achieving and going beyond the title of self actualized imo. I could be dummy wrong tho

This isn't a critique, I'm just trying to figure out a struggle of my own. I deeply enjoyed the video and resonated with what Maslow said, but I am nevertheless left with the impression that this information is, for myself, rather useless in the process of self-actualization. It's hard to pin down why. But for me it feels so unnatural to archieve this state by aiming in that direction, by trying to be as the 13 points that were mentioned. Then, I feel, it wouln't even be authentic in the first place, but a decision my ego would like to take. Not out of the magnificance of the state of self-actualization, but because self-actualization seems to be a "higher" state, that would make me eminent and special. I would do it for me. I'm not sure about all of it, but I think the impulse needs to come from within and the way needs to be pursued out of an inner need. And I also think that looking at the goal in the far distance doesn't work when I haven't even started walking yet. thank you anyways, amazing work. :)
@lee-ci8mj
@lee-ci8mj 3 жыл бұрын
I get this, actualization is kinda unreachable to aim to. I think focusing more on Maslow’s pyramid would help. Self-Actualization is more specific, but Maslow’s general pyramid and his theory (that before self-actualization, you need things like a support group, and strong relationships with other people, and other stuff) on it are really interesting and helpful.

I don't think these 13 points are a tutorial, rather than an observation. So of course it is somewhat useless. You can't self-actualise by acting like you already are. Of course you can try to appreciate life more and be kinder etc., but not with the intention of following these rules. Just do those things because they're good to do, and one day you'll realise that you're already there. And as for the goal: You shouldn't look at your goal longingly. Your path toward that goal is strongly tied to your daily life. Be excited for the day you're there, but also appreciate every step and every stop along the way.
@AbelsbestGaming
@AbelsbestGaming 3 жыл бұрын
Life is too infinite in possibilities, all paths to enlightenment are different. Looking at the goal in the distance is a good start. It would be a shame to finish a race that was never meant for us. A baker owning a bakery could be the equivalent of Alexander conquering the world. It truly is all perspective. It is good to be lost at times,in this period it is the time where we can truly be found. Don’t undermine your progress, even if you are just scoping out the stars.
@scipioakova2008
@scipioakova2008 3 жыл бұрын
In case this point has not // will not be covered here already; (I think) that a very important takeaway here is that these 13 points are observed. Maslow's "points" bear no implications ( these points resulting in a nice state of being // self-actualization ), but rather they are observed within "self-actualizated people". You can view this as a "reverse-implication": rather that these points imply a state of self-actualization, it is the self-actualization that results in these points. You should not "aim" for these goals, as they are not a preliminary of self-actualization, but "within" self-actualization. TL:DR; Being these points will not necessarily result in self-actualization, it is about being in "a" state, and that state "happens" to express those points.

So, are these pre-requisites for becoming self actualized or are they outcomes ? Kinda confused here ! 🤨🤔🤔

Putting it like this will cause people to seek it in a way that prevents them from achieving it. To sum it up, nature is cute, things are comedic a lot of times. It’s not a cold void, you just choose to see it that way because you don’t want to feel like your pain is your fault.

I swear you are describing me here, all 13 traits are just me yes in 2020 I adopted a new sad face and began engaging in escapism beyond a border I feel control over. I really am not sure if all this unemployment and lockdowns really damaged my psyche beyond my limited understanding of psychology or something else, my point is, if you are describing me here - thee things: *You are either completely misdiagnosing and describing something else *I asses myself incorrectly *Self actualised people can also lose control over their ideals/values/core principles in certain environments.

I also have to wonder whether Einstein was "compassionate towards all humans" or "felt oneness with all mankind" or was "independent", when he tried his best to out-compete Hilbert by creating his own version of General Relativity before Hilbert did... That doesn't seem to be a very "self-actualized" motivation =)

I think academician Sakharov was a real self-actualized person. Being the acclaimed genius he was, he was nonetheless never proud and self-inflated with other human beings, he valued every human life unconditionally and always bravely held his ground against inhumane politicians who tried to destroy him.

im sorry to say i think you've got this all backwards in that most of these things are symptoms rather than causes. though of course it would likely help to become better at these things, if you can do that directly.

Just a reminder Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs is only widely accepted because it’s intuitive, there is little to no evidence supporting it, in fact known evidence seems to reject it. It’s just not a good model
