What Does Mother of God Mean? ________ Doctrinal formation in the early years of the Jesus movement started with virtually no consideration for Mary because nowhere in Jewish tradition was the mother of the long-predicted messiah significant. As the movement developed it shed much of its Jewish identity. The idea that Jesus wasn't just the messiah but a divine being arose. Once on that path, it didn't take long to create stories about Mary that made here special. She was finally redefined as the mother of the second person of Christianism's triune godhead.

Reading the gospels alone shows that the apostles and writers, and thus all the early Christians, very much believed Jesus was God, and the promised Messiah. The mother of the king was the queen, not the wife. David and Bethshebha and then Solomon and Bethshabha show this very clearly. Revelations then shows Mary's place as queen of the universe, all soundly biblical and early, not a later development as you've said.

I remember you from a different Catholic video I think you said something like faith is the foolishness that desperate seek or some thing to that effect. Faith is the evidence of things not seen...is the biblical definition. So you could say miracles large or small are the evidence. Do yourself this favor my friend it only takes a few minutes. Do a Google search on these words: Church totally destroyed but statue of Mary was untouched. You will see an unending list of newsfeeds from all over the world that make that proclamation as proof. Through fires and floods ,hurricanes and tornados and even a few bombings Mary stands triumphant and perfect time after time after time.

Sorry, Mary is the mother of Jesus of Nazareth, the man. Jesus was fully human and is fully Divine. Jesus, the Divine Second Person of the Triune God was not born (In the beginning was the Word, John 1:1) and was certainly not born of a human mother. So “Mother of God” is an inappropriate stretch. Is it not venerable enough that Mary was chosen as the Mother of our Lord’s human life? I am a practicing Catholic, but do not accept “Mother of God”, do not believe in the Immaculate Conception, as I do not believe we are born with Original sin. Original sin was established by the church centuries after our Lord walked the earth. If Mary’s conception was immaculate (without original sin), then Mary would have no knowledge of good and evil, and therefore leading a sinless life (if that is the case) would have no virtue as she would have never made a choice.

If Mary is the Mother of God then Joseph is God's foster-father, Elizabeth is God's cousin, and Anne & Joachim are God's grandparents, and on and on. It's an unnecessary title that just sows confusion and elevates Mary to God's equal or superior. Makes more sense to simply say that Jesus is God.
