You done well driving in Italy !! I used to drive in all those streets when we had our flat in scalea, you just get used to it and you learn which streets to take and which not to take and where to park !!
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC2 жыл бұрын
Totally true! I have gotten really practiced at it. I have had to view properties up some of the scariest roads I have ever been on. It is good to be able to negotiate all kinds of driving conditions and you get really good at it here!

This video makes me thankful that, as of now, we don't drive in Italy. Conad is such a nice market!

Hi Merle, It is not bad other times during the year. We LOVE this Conad! It has everything!

I appreciate you presenting the warts as well as all of the positives. A balanced approach. I imagine during this period you don't go to the restaurants much. Thanks, Chris!

Hi John, You are welcome! Happily I love just across the street for the Bella Vista and when it is too hot to cook I just order take out there during August! And I eat lots of salads!

Hats off to you for driving in the chaos. My first family trip to Italy at 21 was to the August festivals - when everyone goes home - and the traffic chaos was unbelievable. It will all calm down soon, no doubt! You are a braver woman than me!
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC2 жыл бұрын
LOL Thank you Jill! I don't mind the chaos but hate sitting in standstill traffic. In a week it will be much better!

Thanks for showing us the high-tourist-season traffic, Chris. Really reminds me of the daily traffic in any congested cities I’ve lived in or visited in the US: I.e., usually the traffic is moving (albeit very slowly), and occasionally there are bad jams when nothing moves for a long time. At least it’s only really bad for a month or two! And all the people visiting truly help the economy!!!!
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC2 жыл бұрын
Hi Deb, Yes it is only bad for about 3 weeks and now is when everyone starts heading home. By September it will be back to normal.

Yes it is best to stay out of the downtown area, the restaurants and the beaches at that time. Last August we went to the downtown area of Santa Maria del Cedro and it was not packed at all. We had a nice meal at Vecchia Casale and wandered around. It was a lovely day even mid August. Yes the Conad is amazing! I love it so much!

Looks like Daytona Beach or Panama City Florida in USA during spring break. How many rent places in SDT during this time?

Hi Joe! Pretty much everything in SDT rents out for August.

What skills Chris! Driving manual and also filming with your phone...impressive. Thanks for this video. We haven't been to Scalea in August so this was informative... what time does Conad open in the morning?
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stella! Thank you! It was tricky! I think Conad opens very early if it closes at all. I think it is open 24 hours.

My family and I have visited Italy , not this part but considering moving from USA . How are hospitals there ? And what type of jobs are common for most Americans ? I currently do carpentry .
@SuperSavvyTravelersLLC Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, There is a good hospital in Belvedere Marittimo and in Cosenza. In Puglia we have loved the medical care we have experienced there. You may want to check out our video interview with Dr. Andrea Armenio as he goes over the medical care systems in Italy in detail.

You need to stock up for the month of August for your B&B so you only have to go in for perishables for yourself. I would not like that driving.

It is not too and once you get used to it. I generally avoid Scalea in August until about the last week. We really only have about 3 weeks where it is pretty bad but the rest of the time it is great. The best strategy in Scalea is to leave your car for the tome you are there and just walk! Everything is within walking distance.
