Thank you for this video! I am from Hamburg, northern Germany, where the old Saxons lived. We have a district here called „Stellingen“.

In the Netherlands, there's a place called "Stellingwerven", in an area where Low Saxon/German is still spoken. "Werven" is plural, because it happened to split and later rejoin, but originally the place was called "Stellingwerf". "Werf" meaning "place", and "Stelling" meaning "administrators, people who govern", and the combination of that something like "place where the law is administered". Perhaps your stellinga were simply, administrators, rulers?

Brother what germanic language do you recommend learning first? Im torn between Old English, Old Frankish, Old High German and Middle High German. I know English, Spanish and German, some very basic Latin also. Which would you say is easier first with that knowledge?

In your case, I'd say either Old English or Old High German. The former has many resources for learning and the latter has less material out there. As for Old High German, I only know of two textbooks in English that one can study from. I hope this helps in some form.

@@learningoldgermaniclanguages Thank you so much! I will start with Old English then! Love both your channels! Thank you for keeping these traditions alive, it is very important work in a world that does not care about Medieval and Ancient languages, and Medieval and Ancient history. As a student of humanities I congratulate you on your channel.

@@learningoldgermaniclanguages Could you mention those two books for Old High German? Just to take them into account for the future. For Old English Im gonna use both your videos and Joseph Wrights book.
