I was always taught that the first Africans came to the English Colonies in America in 1617. Now only 1619 is heard. This 1619 project seems to be a document that started with the conclusion. That denotes poor scholarship and even, possibly, false scholarship.

The about 20 Africans who were on the pirate ship that landed in Jamestown in 1619 were traded for food. These African were treated as indentured servants and soon released. At that time, slavery was already present in the Spanish parts of America.

The 29 enslaved from Angola were placed on the white lion and brought into Port comfort Virginia, which is now Hampton Virginia Jamestown has retracted this misrepresentation. The did NOT go to Jamestown. They Tucker family and others commemorate the landing of the 29 souls at Port comfort in a yearly remembrance ceremony,

Oh dear god Sonya. Awesome way to play the race card. Really, it’s SO unbecoming. Maybe, some day, focus on the facts presented. Nikole Hannah-Jones is NOT a historian. She has a BA in African American Studies and an MA in mass communications. She’s an ‘Investigative Journalist’. She’s got a new job as a ‘professor in Race and Reporting’. And she made significant material factual errors in her 1619 opinion papers. Doesn’t mean she’s not entitled to her opinion. Just like your dentist is entitled to an opinion about your brain surgery. It’s just that dentists aren’t brain surgeons. Not complicated.

My ancestor, General Artemus Ward enlisted servants, slaves and freedmen into his Massachusetts militia against the wishes of some who didn't want the southern colonies to find out. The relationship between New England and the Middle/southern colonies was complex. The North, which was abolitionist even in the 18th cen. and representing the ideological force for revolution, had to make a deal with the wealthier southerners in order to make the separation w/ Britain an even viable option. As one who believes history is the world's greatest teacher and most reliable prognosticator, may I ask what statements or issues presented by either Mr. Murray or his guest are false? I hope you won't find my question as an attempt to gaslight you or some automated defense of either man. I am sincerely interested in knowing more about the 1619 project.
