The Nord Stream gas pipelines are in trouble, right in the middle of an energy war between Russia and Europe.
Sweden and Denmark have reported several leaks in the Baltic Sea.
The EU and NATO blamed 'sabotage', with some European governments accusing Russia of being behind the attacks.
A Kremlin spokesman called the accusations 'predictably stupid and absurd'.
Could this signal the end of the biggest gas link between Russia and Western Europe?

Most stupid act ever if a NATO country is behind this, jeopardizing the whole alliance. This is a desperate act by Putin in order to try to blame this on the west in order to enrage the Russians to fight against Ukraine and the west. Nothing new when it comes to the Russians and Putin. They blew up a hotel in Moscow full of Russians and blamed it on Chechnya in order to start a war.

USA doesn't gain much from blowing the pipelines. EU already decided to remove dependency on Russian gas and Russia decided cut them off anyway. But USA stands to lose EU support completely if EU would be able to prove USA involvement. There are very clear reasons for Russia to blow up the pipeline. This gives more credibility to their nuclear doctrine of "escalate to deescalate". They are warning that they can blow up other pipelines like the one from Norway to Poland and that they can cut our internet cables. Moreover, they want to see NATO divided and suspicious of each other. It works perfectly as your comment shows.

1) Russians are under contract to supply certain volume of natural gas to Germany every year and there are billions of $ of penalties in the contracts if they simply turn off the supply from their side. That’s why the whole “turbine maintenance” excuse since July. By blowing up the pipeline, which may take years to repair, they can stop the supply without any penalties. 2) It’s no coincidence the sabotage occurred the same day Norway-Poland pipeline opened. It’s a not so subtle threat to Western Europe. “We have the capabilities and the will to get to your undersea pipelines, internet cables, power cables, etc.” 3) Uncertainties spike global energy markets, which means billions $ of more revenue for Russia. They were forced to sell to India/China at a discount since the European sanctions, but by injecting fear into the market, they can neutralize these discounts. Natural gas prices were beginning to decrease as LNG reserves in Europe were getting to 70% full. But now they shot back up and some more. 4) Putin wants to inflict maximum pain and pressure to Western Europe for this winter, hoping civil dissent in those countries will stop the flow of weapons into Ukraine. The “partial mobilization” which by all reports from Russia is really a full mobilization in disguise, shows how desperate he is. He’s not thinking about what will happen long term, but how to survive the next stage of the war, as civil unrest in Russia is building.

It is owned and operated by Nordstream AG, a company with 5 shareholders. Gazprom (Russia) owns 51 % controlling stake. So I woud say Russia is the owner - one of the owners. Moreover, Russia is undoubtedly the owner of these 800 mln euro worth of gas that was released into the sea. So I'd say the US have a long bill to foot - compensate the owners for the damages to the pipeline or reimburse teh cost of the pipeline, compensate the cost of teh gas they spilled into the sea - and last but not least compensate for or rectify the environmental damage they caused, which is huge. After a year of delays, the Polish commissioned underwater gas pipeline from Norwegian gas fields into Poland was declared operational at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The next day the pair of out of service gas pipelines NS1 & NS2 suffered 3 explosive ruptures off the coast of the Danish island of Bornholm. Reports of a US warship operating in that area northeast of Bornholm island, three days prior to the explosions, could point to American operatives as the cause. Equally possible is that Polish operatives are the likely saboteurs. Poland has been cutoff from Russian gas, and have been buying natural gas via Germany at a hefty premium. This unfortunate situation cuts off Germany, and makes Poland a major source of Natural Gas for Germany. Unfortunately for Germany the premium will be even higher. And Poland gets to poke Putin in the eye without losing a single soldier. Priceless for Poland. Or,..... it could be the USA.

But USA stands to lose EU support completely if EU would be able to prove USA involvement. There are very clear reasons for Russia to blow up the pipelines.

Germany can fight back by shifting those industries that is high in depending on cheap gas to survive. To shift such industry to Russia. It is much nearer logistics and labor costs. This will teach the US a lesson that Germany had the means to fight back from this subortage.

Why would Russia damage a pipeline that it made(invested) when it could just be shut-down?Threats against Nord stream were made by none other then the U.S....so, who do you think did this? Not sure?...U.S.-European military exercises on the island of Bornholm (Sweden-organized), also the area where pipeline-leaks occurred in both 1 and 2. The arrogance and corruption of Amerikan politicians is beyond acceptable.

Question to so-called smart guy Leon Izbicki: How Russia made money from destroying its new $12 billion pipeline 2 plus $billions pipeline 1 plus $billions worth of gas in those pipelines? Answer: Russia made $0 while USA and affiliate made ton of money (Norway-Poland pipeline). When people begins to have sufficient IQ to think?

the pipe line was far more use to Russia as a political weapon, if they simply turned it off when they wanted to make a point. over and over they could use it....to blow it up is a one time deal. Russia is not so stupid as to blow up over 2 billion dollars worth of equipment, for a one time "possible" stab at USA. also, the waters in the area are too shallow for Russia to get in and out easily, unlike USA which had free access. the fact USA said they would blow it up (and we all know what Biden meant), to say Russia did it, is pretty stupid

It was definitely Russia, they weren't using the pipeline anymore, it gets then out of contractual obligations and sends a message that new pipeline could be next. Putin has a track record of blowing up civilian infrastructure.

what would even Russia gain by it? more likely if USA did, or even if Poland or France would do something, or just someone that's completely outside of it.. eh okey, I actually thought they were supposed to smart, atleast been something that they should have thought about and things like that before they even made it.. but that is a thought everyone should have.. accidents but also that's it's easy to destroy or demolish, like a terrorist attack or something.. or what makes others safe, for whatever reason it happened now? oh or maybe it's just a test to see if it acctually will make climate change worse, or just to see the shelf glacier make a landslide in somewhat near future.. the cost of it are being blamed on this war and sure it makes a difference and some are more reliant on gas and oil.. but if we have a enough of energy and the energy doesn't cost more to make then before, then how and why? it's like they try to paint Russia and Putin like a black pit or something, but it's not him they should blame for the mess they've made, because they are responsible for the energy crisis.. can just thank Putin that he haven't blown us up, atleast not yet.. and one more little provocative thought thingy, if he wanted to, he could just easily blow that up or something, could be a type of easy warfare.. so for all privileged countries why would it be different then other places? i mean privileges or riches don't matter in that sense, so why would it be exceptions in this case? because its actually not an exception just that it is a so called sovereign nation, so if not a fact, it atleast should be realised, that no one actually are immune to war..

Putin won't be blowing up anyone because the US will blow them up out of retaliation...I live in the US and I know for a fact that Russia has no chance in all out war against the US. Especially since they are having trouble with Ukraine. And if Russia uses a nuke on any country whatsoever. The US will nuke Russia. Regardless I don't think the US or Russia damaged the pipes. US would never harm their own allies. And Russia wouldn't sabatoge their only negotiation tactic

Your (3) Russia made $0 because Russia had nothing to sell plus Russia lost about $20 billion worth of pipelines Plus lost about $2 billion worth of gas in pipeline. BUT NORWAY-POLAND pipeline does made ton of money (your 2). I hope your IQ will increase a bit with this answer. My anger is to whoever destroyed these 2 pipelines are committing crime against mankind as releasing massive amount of METHANE to destroy OZONE layer.
