What does the Stagea steering wheel button do?

Got a Series 2 C34 Stagea and not sure what that button with the steering wheel icon does? We pressed it a few times and thankfully nothing exploded!

well, you're not supposed to change gears during corners anyways since it can unsettle the car during cornering. xD
