Hello. I have question: When you say Bully Breed dogs do refer to only American Bullies or do you also refer to American Bulldog, Boxer, Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog and Olde English Bulldogge?

Hi GBenz. We mention Bully breeds as we’re concerned that some of the larger Bully breeds could potentially fall under the Government's hugely subjective definition of an XL Bully type. Any dog owner unsure of whether their dog would be considered an XL Bully has been advised by the Government to err on the side of caution and comply with the legislation. Concerned dog owners can contact their local Dog Legislation Officer. Thank you 🐾

Does this definition include Cane Corso, as I am aware they are not a bully breed?

Hi there, Adrian 😄 Thanks for getting in touch. The UK Government has put together official guidance to help define what an XL Bully dog is, which involves checking the dog’s physical characteristics to determine if they fit the type 🐾 Some of the characteristics mentioned include but are not limited to: - A large dog with a muscular body and blocky head. - Height of males from 20in (51cm) and height of females from 19in (48cm). - Heavily muscled body with a broad, deep chest with well-sprung ribs. I took some legal advice from my RAC legal advice team. They told me that cane corso do not look like the xl bully photos published on the government notice so not to worry too much. My vet sayd basically the same. Also that lots of dogs may have similar characteristics but are not a American XL Bully, However she did say I can not be absolutely certain@@pdsa

The government advice is to take a precautionary approach i.e. if you’re not sure if you have an XL Bully dog, you should comply with all the new requirements for this dog type.
