Something ive noticed about critical captures is that at the beginning of the throw, the trail the ball leaves behind does an arc, which is a faster way of telling whether it’s a critical capture than seeing it shake.

I've noticed that you can also tell if a Pokemon is a Ditto by the way it walks. Most Pokemon walk in a straight line; Ditto walks in a sort of zigzag pattern.

The very first ditto I ever saw transformed was a HUGE electrode rolling around outside of Medali. That leads me to believe that they are set to transform into the largest possible. It almost looked like a PLA alpha

An interesting trick i saw someone use on a stream for catching Ditto was to have a Zorua as your lead pokemon, when it enters battle it will be disguised as another pokemon in your party, Ditto will attempt to Transform into that disguise but will fail. i've been using this to farm Dittos for Surprise trades, gotta help people with those Masuda shinies

Another thing: Ditto, Zorua, and Zoroark outbreaks don’t have a notification for them when you enter the outbreak area. You just have to knock out every Pokémon in the area and count however many outbreak mons your Pokémon has knocked out

This Ditto was the most painful hunt for me. Took over 2000+ encounters. Things I've learned from hunting it in this exact spot: * Ditto does not appear as shiny in its disguise * This particular spot can cause glitches in auto-battle where your Pokemon won't attack, but the Ditto isn't shiny either * This area starts to lag after a while * If your Pokemon starts not having an animation when you start an auto-battle, the game is close to crashing. Save and reset. * Using a normal sparkling sandwich here will only spawn Ditto/Meowth

Another way of telling which Meowth is a Ditto is how Meowths are typically more curious as you approach, with a question mark appearing over their heads before they run at you. Dittos disguised as Meowth will ignore you. This can also apply to Voltorbs and Electrodes as well, Dittos won’t try to Self-Destruct. Another way of telling is centered Pokémon in group encounters appearing on their own, like Dachsbun and Mabostiff. This can also apply to Zorua and Zoroark.

I've noticed some things myself hunting for a Zorua - Fake Sudowoodo walk around normally and put their hands up when spotted, Real Sudowoodo have their hands up and run away when spotted - Aggressive Pokemon like Primeape or Spidops will not attack if they're disguised - Disguised Foongus will run away - Mabosstiff and Greedent will spawn without company - Pokemon that can fly like Scyther will not fly if they're disguised

I just assumed it the game ran into the max amount of pokemon spawns around you and despawned/hid stuff on the load. I noticed the same "despawn" trying to beast ball capture a Dreepy. Some of the 4 Dreepy around him including the shiny would take turns not showing up.

For the record you can know if it's a crit capture while it's flying in the air. A normal capture will move straight at the pokemon, kind of like a dark. A critical capture will zig zag in the air while moving towards the pokemon. Hope this makes sense.

@@Hallow6262 yup! West Province (Area Three) by Medali. Make sure you’re across the street in the grass. During the day it’ll be disguised as a few different things. At night Murkrow is included in that. Use Dark type sandwich and ALL spawns will be Zorua during the day disguised as Masboschief (heartbreaking to KO so many of them 😂) - at night it’ll be Masboschief and murkrow. Additionally it can be found in the Tagtree Thicket. Mainly northeast side of it. If you use dark type sandwich you’ll get Zorua and Impidimp. I found like 3 shiny Impidimp and no Zorua here 😂

About the critical captures, if you throw a PokeBall to a Pokémon you already have registered in your Pokedex, if the capture is successful, the animation will be that of a critical capture, doesn't mean it's a critical, the calculations are normal, it's just the animation. From this all the information you can get is that if the animation isn't the one of a critical, and you previously caught one of that species, the Pokémon will break free.

If you reload a save and the weather conditions change, the spawns do as well. So reload again and if you can’t get it again. Go into settings and reset the time to when you encountered it.

This man is lookin like me last night outbreak hunting shiny Eiscue. I was on the north coast outside the fairy star base and I found two random shiny buisels in pack spawns. I also despawned a shiny Eiscue because it spawned just beyond my camera. I looked back only to watch it disappear forever. So, unless you can prove with footage showing the "Pokemon in outbreak are going down" messages, you weren't actually doing the Ditto outbreak. From what I've experienced, and what I've seen on Reddit, Ditto outbreaks (as well as Zorua ones) are broken. No Pokemon spawn in the outbreak radius. And looking at your minimap, you weren't in the actual location of the outbreak. Also, while I appreciate all the awesome work you do, I feel bad that you did all this testing about what shiny Ditto looks like since that info is already on KZbin lol Also, I've discovered another way to tell it's a Ditto: it doesn't throw up a question or exclamation mark when you get close.

From Bulbapedia regarding SV Critical Captures: "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have a quirk with the animations of critical captures, namely that a successful capture on a Pokémon that is registered in the player's Pokédex will always appear to be a critical capture, even if it is not, and a failed critical capture animates as a normal capture, but with the Pokémon breaking out after no shakes." So if, like me, you have completed the Paldea Dex, EVERY time you successfully catch something it will animate as a critical capture, and if the ball EVER shakes, you know you failed the capture.

For 90% of people they will get the bug where ditto mass outbreaks don't actually spawn when you get to the outbreak area witch happened to me multiple times so I just used normal encounter 3 with sparkling 3 and did it the hard way but got it after a few hours 😁

Something else that might help is if you want to find a Pokémon like zoroark in the north west part (above where you fight the Titan tatsugiri and dondozo) if you see a stray sawsbuck that’s a zoroark, cuz sawsbuck doesn’t spawn solo, that and zoroark and ditto, when they notice you they won’t do the Pokémon’s cry and will just ignore you, while zorua runs away no matter what Pokémon it is

I've seen clips that also hold the same results for Zoroa. I think the harder part is disguised pokemon like Ditto, not showing as Shiny on the overworld. Certainly a hunt I want to try at some point if I can get an outbreak.

dittos also in wild encounters, if you see a pokemon that is a leader of a horde but it’s solo (say a drifblim or pawmi’s evolution) it’s a ditto

Dittos can be easily spotted by a few factors. 1. The scale, like Austin pointed out, is larger on Ditto than the base size of the Pokemon it's transforming into. 2. Dittos completely ignore the player. No matter how close you get they won't turn to look, ?, or ! at the player. Any pokemon that does is not a Ditto. (Important note, this is not the case for the Zorua line.) 3. Dittos don't walk in straight lines like other pokemon, but in a Zigzagoon pattern. If you're still unsure you have a Ditto, watch for that Teeter Dance. Happy hunting!

This also happens in the reverse sadly. If a Zorua or Ditto is disguised as something and whatever they are disguised as happens to be shiny, it will turn into a normal Ditto or Zorua. I ran into a shiny Sawsbuck and it transformed into a normal Zorua.

A trick I’ve seen for seeing if a throw is a crit, look at the white streak behind the ball as it’s thrown, if it goes up quickly then it’s a crit. See at 6:13

I just use a false swipe + spore breloom for catching shinies, personally. The speed and convenience can't be beat. It's not too hard to get a spore breloom in this game, it's standard on raid brelooms I think and it's not that hard to powerlevel shroomish with candies now.

It’s strange to me that my ditto and zorua outbreaks never work, BUT I do like observing what they do differently disguised as different Pokémon. (For example outside of medali Zorua as pineco will be unusually far from trees, no pack of pups as Mabosstiff, and as Sawsbuck they’ll be unusually close to Medali) Hilariously, while it doesn’t count as a behavior, dachsbun ditto will be clipped into the ground and has no walking animation.

Funny that you speculate the whole video if the game allows your auto-battle Pokemon to kill shinies. I learned very early on by pure, stupid luck that they won't because I was auto-battling Tandemaus myself and my Pokemon would not kill one no matter how many times I threw out my Pokemon. Lo and behold, it was shiny when I encountered it myself (definitely one of the most underwhelming shinies IMO but shiny is shiny). I was glad to learn that early on.

It's known that auto battle won't go after shinies. What he was trying to figure out is if a transformed shiny Ditto would still appear as shiny (it doesn't, as the Meowth-disguised shiny Ditto he found in this video appeared as a non-shiny Meowth), and whether your auto battler would be able to tell the difference regardless (it does, as his Gallade still would not attack it)

Instead of gallade and foongus for captures, if you use a breloom it can have spore via level up as well as false swipe via TM. That's my go-to for false swipe Pokemon. Just a tidbit of info to save you from having to waste a turn switching in battle

Another way is to get a Shroomish *through a Tera Raid Battle.* When fighting it, it will usually use *Spore* even at lower Levels. Catch it, and evolve it into Breloom at its earliest Evolving Level - give it a False Swipe TM, and you have a *Spore-capable False Swiper under Lvl40!*

Something I've noticed too, don't know if its been said, but if you walk by a pokemon and it doesn't either ? or ! above its head, its a Ditto. They don't react to you walking by.

So I did an unintentional test. I don't know if you covered this already or discovered this bit on your own, but when I was rerolling the auction items in Porto Marinada, after checking the auction items I had forgotten to send the day forward after closing the game. When the game booted up, not only were the items rerolled, even all the mass outbreaks and tera raids on the map were different. That last bit I discovered by noticing that my previous 6* was a different type before. I think that, as long as the hard save is a different day from the selected boot up time, you get rerolls on the auction items, tera raids, and mass outbreaks. Heck, timed right, you probably don't even have to adjust the time settings at all. Drop a hard save before midnight, and reboot the game until you're satisfied with what you get.

Ditto has really messed up my Jumbo Mark hunting, so it's good to know I can reboot and the disguises despawn. Also you've probably covered this in a later video, but Gholdengo is immune to Transform

Hey Austin, awesome video as always! I got some questions. 1) I know you said In your breeding video that you can't be bothered to battle Pokemon to EV train but what about for those who can be bothered to do so or don't always have several hundred thousand Pokedollars to drop on vitamins? What Pokemon would you recommend battling for EV's? 2) Does auto battle give EV's? 3) How would you go about shiny hunting Eelektross or It's pre-evolutions If I don't want to do eggs?

When I first played through the game, right before I went to the gym, I was catching some pokemon, ran into my first ditto disguised as a meowth, I failed to catch it, and then I saw a Dachsbun and I thought "I never seen that pokemon before! i need to catch it!" turned out it was a normal color Dachsbun, but it was a shiny Ditto! My first shiny in this generation

Hi Austin,love the video and congrats on the shiny tandemouse,awesome score,have a look at 6.39 when you encounter a shiny ditto discuised a water,ark or 3 droplets show up on the bottom left corner next to your pokemon sprite/picture Also shows up when you encounter a shiny Zorua or Zoroark discuised

Did you know that you can tell a critical capture from the trail of light once the ball is thrown. Noticed it early on when playing, but if there is a kink in the trail nearest your trainer its a crit. No need to wait for the mid air shake.

This reminds me of how Shiny Ditto appears in Pokemon Go! It appears as a normal non shiny pokemon, but then it reveals into Shiny Ditto!

I did not realize ditto spawned here before your video. So, I was just hunting dittos in this area and found a shiny! I do have the shiny charm but wasn't using a sandwich so that was an unexpected surprise. Thank you!
