After the Musical Chairs episode in season 2, they'd be mad not to cover Hulkenberg's Cinderella-story race at the Eifel GP. If he does get signed up again for 2021 I could imagine them finishing an episode on that before cutting to black with text saying "Hulkenberg will be racing for _____ in 2021".

Ferrari's coming together and only 11 cars finishing the first race at RBR - back to racing from pandemic Gasly sitting alone at Monza on a deserted podium and pit straight, but pretty much the whole motorsport world patting him on the back from their Sofa's. Oh and France going berserk :) I hope they put in the footage of that French commentator just spewing passion. Mugello pile up, destruction derby in Tuscany.

I've always been a fan of F1 and what it represents. The highest level of motorsports, engineering, driving, etc. However I never could get into a race because I didn't know anything about most of the drivers. I think that's the biggest thing Drive to Survive did. It got you invested into each and every team and driver. So now you have someone to root for, and root against. That's huge. I would be curious how many new fans they brought to F1. Several of my friends, and myself included have all become pretty big F1 fans because of it. I went back to 2017, watched every race to now, and even watched half of 2012 before F1 started back up. I must say, it's exciting to be interested in such a big sport. The only sport I've ever watched intently is formula drift, because I drift, and I have a lot of friends competing in it, thus a vested interest in someone winning vs loosing. But the coverage sucks, it's a judged sport, it's a niche thing. It's nice to be into something so big I guess.

@TaylorRay First of all how DARE you self loathe haha I’ve actually been watching Hyperdrive on Netflix nightly this week. I was wrapping production on this getting some final talking points and it was recommended on Netflix once an episode of DTS ended. Hooked haha. Secondly, that’s exactly spot on. There’s elements we’d NEVER get without the show. Especially from Lewis, valtteri, Toto, Mattia, etc. it humanizes the midfield drivers especially which is really really important. It makes the sport not so much about Merc and Ferrari. And the show Indirectly confirmed that to me. Those are the motivations and passions that make a fan stick for life - not tied to results on track as much. I don’t wanna be a douche and recommend my own video in a direct convo haha so type “f1 2012 bbc season review” in KZbin that review is excellent. As is cumberbatch’s narrated 2017 video. That 2017 battle video I made is one of the only videos I’ve made I actually personally like but I’m no match for Benedict they murdered the production on that one especially. They are brilliant recaps - much more involved than DT2 you’d love them. Thirdly, as you keep leaning in, drop me a line sometime. One of my dream pieces has been a mega collab with experts from specific racing series. I don’t ever do collabs but that one is going to be a monster. I think I can convince slapshoes for stock and have the Moto lined up and other racing creators. You’d be a phenomenal add for drift. Super misunderstood category but once you get in it holy hell it’s addicting. Just a thought ! Email is nick at this channel name dot com. Fourthly, mate I can’t even make this up it’s so obscure it would actually be impossible haha but I JUST bought a pair of those knipex pliers you couldn’t remember how to pronounce in your K swap video. Fucking tiny world . I actually for a second was like wtf did Amazon affiliates email you or something haha wow
@Taylordrifts4 жыл бұрын
@@CYMotorsport Hyper drive is an interesting one. It doesn't really represent what most of drifting is, but has decent entertainment value. I knew several people who did it as well. One of my best friends almost did it, but it was unpaid, they had to take 6 weeks off work, travel to new york, and not get paid for it. So he couldn't make it work. The midfield point is a good one! There's so many good mid-field battles every race. I try to make my roomate watch with me and he only knows the big names, so it's boring to him. If you don't know anything about the mid-feild guys, you really lose out on a lot of good action you would be into if you knew their backstory. I feel like the show is a good stepping stone. Gets you into F1, then you start watching races yourself and learning from them, or channels like yours. I didn't understand qualifying until I watched on of your videos. I'll have to check that one out! I've watched the Silver wars videos, I watched your 2012 season video that one was super cool, and quite a few others actually. Yeah for sure! I'll shoot ya an email! Drifting as a whole is grossly misunderstood. The biggest misconceptions being that it's time based and being fastest through the track is the goal (thanks tokyo drift) and the other being that you don't want grip. Even for fun drifting, you want grip. Grip = speed and control. For competition stuff, you literally put as much grip in the car as possible, all sorts of odd-ball suspension setup stuff to make more grip, get the car to transfer fast, etc. People compete on 285 R compound race tires. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye. Ahahaha! Really? That's hilarious! Those pliers are freaking life changing. lol I love them. I have a pair in the shop and in the trailer. It's one of those do it all tools. I have a bunch of other pliers from them, but they're not as standout as the cobra's. And I've been watching your videos for a while. I binged watched a lot of the season recap style ones, the crashgate stuff, the one with mclaren and Ferrari etc when I started following F1. Like I said it's nice to be into a sport with a big following and lots of info out there. Other passionate people to talk to about it. Drifting you have like one podcast that covers competition drifting and that's it. lol

I agree with your assessment. :) The other thing it misses, in my opinion, is momentum - a factor in the driver standings. When a driver gets a good result, it builds their confidence and they will often perform better. I think this was a major factor in Leclerc's championship trajectory in 2019.

I felt like the lack of chronological order definitely made it difficult to understand how the seasons went in general, but the impression I got was that dts was trying to tell stories about each driver, to varying extents. They'd usually do a whole episode on someone like pierre gasly (and someone else) and his promotion followed by his demotion from red bull, and then go into how why he had something to prove after. I feel like this made it more engaging as a very new fan that got into it from dts...but having said that they even skip from driver story to driver story throughout the season and that was kinda dumb. Dts isnt an honest documentary or anything, but it got me interested in the sport and I'm glad it exists. Great video!

New fan here. I have always liked cars (not very in depth, but I like them). F1 was kinda always on the fringe of my vision because I didn't understand it and didn't really have friends who were into it. Drive to Survive helped push me into the fandom because I found friends who enjoyed F1 (binged all 3 seasons with a friend over 3 days). Plus I liked knowing more about the human side, not just about the cars. So thanks for the video. I've been watching loads of F1 related content since I finished D2S S3.

I love the quality of your videos. Btw s2e4 is the best episode I have seen as a Mercedes fan. It humanises them. During the year when we knew Netflix was with merc - we realised they might make a joke of Mercedes at that race in the episode. But in reality connecting it to the loss of Niki and his words on learning from losing. Made the episode an all time great. It humanised the Mercedes team. It so easy to fuck up. The difficult bit is to not fuck up 21 times a year. I just wish they added a part where they would show how merc dominates after the off day they had in Germany. The respect they should get for not screwing up all year.

yeah that was my one tiny gripe too. it's almost like the show plays into merc always dominating and leans into the one time they didn't haha

And although I agree that he probably didn't have a very realistic chance to make the pass stick there I still think it's good that he gave it a try, rather than just following Hamilton home like a beaten dog without ever trying, despite Hamiltons tyre troubles. He never had a better chance than this. Not a Verstappen fan btw ^^

I loved S1 of DTS, it got me back into the sport I watched with my family as a kid - gave me an insight to the teams and drivers that you don't get normally. I was hooked and watched every race after. Then I was SO excited for S2, after watching the season unfold I was looking forward to the BTS. But I really disliked it. They spun things out of proportion for drama, it didn't sit right with me. I can appreciate what Netflix and F1 are going for with the show, draw people in and get them to stay like what worked with me, but now they have us they need to maybe now look and cater to the real fan too, those who watch all of the sessions, check the data, are interested in strategy. Balance the dramatics of F1 (the whole Christian x Cyril conversation over engines is just uncomfortable to watch, bickering like school kids) with the technical side of the sport.

The first series I saw was about Michael Schumacher. Then Netflix suggested Drive to Survive. What I love about it is the exposition of the lives of the people behind the scenes and how it aligns with the sport. Keep in mind, I'm a new fan. I started coming to KZbin to see more videos and the comment sections are always filled with rebuke for Drive to Survive. I realize it is because, but not entirely, they didn't really go deep or missed a lot of things. But for me it's good enough and it's the reason I am growing into a fan. After a while, as the series climaxes, I found myself deciding who to support. Team or a driver. I started looking the drivers up, following their stories. What D2S does, it does well. I think many people are mistaking its purpose for their expectations. I really don't understand the gatekeeping. Sometimes I empathize for the "real" F1 fans, and sometimes I don't. But all in all, the criticism seems to be too much it almost wants me to back out of the whole thing. Granted I'm just one person but the "real" F1 fans, treating D2S the way they are should realize they're treating newbs like me the supposed way D2S has treated them. Can we all just meet in the middle?

Very little note: I believe (not 100% sure) that "Let Michael pass for the championship" is from the 2001 race where the same thing happened (the only difference it was for 2nd place). But yeah I get where you're coming from. Maybe they wanted to grab more casual Netflix viewers.

This is a great video. I've watched about a half dozen of your videos so far and just subscribed to your channel. I have always been interested in F1 and have casually watched races from time to time over the years. And I generally had no idea really what was going on. I never really got into it as an American, primarily because race times were always early in the morning. Drive To Survive really sparked a much greater interest in the sport for me and I've really sunk my teeth into more as I try to learn the nuances and what makes it so unique and special. I'm a hardcore hockey fan and know insane amounts about that sport, and I know it can be frustrating for hardcore fans to welcome in new fans that come along after something like a show or a movie popularizes it, but it's great to see videos like this and others trying to help us stand on our own two feet so to speak haha. Cheers!

I am a new F1 fan. I feel like the series was perfectly designed for me. I had no clue about anyone in F1 and I think that their "team based" approach was much more captivating as it enabled me to follow the people and personalities, rather than the results. Now that I am in love with F1 I of course am captivated by everything else and have been engrossing my mind with all the other stuff learning about the engines, the tyres, the different races, F1s history etc. I do not think drive to survive would have been so appealing if they had taken a chronological approach for me. But hey, that's my take. I think I needed drama to bring me in, now that I am here, I can appreciate all the rest of the sport including the technicalities. Also, if I wanna watch racing, I will watch F1.
