Snape is such a terrible teacher that his notes in a margin are better than his actual classroom pedagogy.

I believe that's on purpose. Those notes are symbolic of his darker nature. Seeking perfection, power, shortcuts, and revenge. He knows that those things pull to darker values and wild ambition for most. So as a good teacher, he chose to teach by the book, by knowledge of how to properly follow instruction and remain more structured and doing things the right way, not the easy way.

Snape reinforced the material he covered in his potions through his essay assignments. Forcing the students to research the subject. Something Hermione went the extra mile for as she tried to cram as much information as possible in the parchment with her small handwriting. She only figures out lupin werewolf secret because apparently she was the only one who did the essay and thus knew what to look out for. Hermione struggles with potions because Hermione lacked the normal foundation Snape provided. Slughorn worked solely from the book. Which haven’t been updated in several generations. Due to her own ego Hermione wanted to prove the books were correct. She never reached out to slughorn for help. He was more approachable. Especially if you were gifted. Nor did she go to the library to research ways to improve potion making.

@@johnprice4847 when I say he taught by the book, I was using the expression, not the literal sense. He taught the correct method of using potions, not his more radical and shorthand versions from the margins of his book. He classically wrote instruction on the board and it was different from his potions book, because he knew it was not the best instruction for a general class since it promoted dark magic and shortcuts to powerful potions and spells.

The conversation between Dumbledore and Harry after they watch the real memory is one of the best moments in the books. He taught Harry the mindset to face Voldemort, to embrace his destiny. Because walking into the arena with your head held high makes all the difference.

That monologue is easily one of the most profound moments in the book! The idea that the prophecy is only real because Voldemort believes it is real and because Harry could not rest as long as Voldemort was around is what sold it for me! Not every prophecy is true, but so long as Voldemort sets store by the prophecy, it will have to come to fruition.

One interesting bit of Magic from the books that goes unexplained is when they go to the cave in HBP, and Dumbledore starts feeling around to locate the entrance, and Harry notes that he hadn’t ever seen a Wizard work something out in this way

Hes 116 years old and known as the most powerful wizard of his time. He also studied tom riddles diary for years. He could probably see the traces of magic on Voldemort when he applied for the dada position. He taught harry how to be an auror

Interesting fact: There are only like 3000-6000 witches and wizards in Britain in the 1990s. No wonder it’s so special and such a big deal to be a wizard. Apparently there’s millions of others outside of the UK, but it’s weird to think about the other interesting feats of magic internationally (philosophers’ stone, elder wand, blue fire, etc…). Not to mention the extent of Voldemort’s prowess across Europe and how many wizard governments saw him as a legitimate threat.

That's something that I've always wondered: how did the world react when Voldemort took over Britain? The French, Belgians and Irish are right next door, after all. Given the threat Voldemort posed, it's baffling that Aurors from across the world didn't join the fight. There certainly were plenty of powerful witches and wizards who could've taken on the Death Eaters and liberated the country, even if they couldn't defeat Voldemort directly.

A bit of trivia I learned about Harry's lightning-shaped scar from a KZbinr, Dr. Mike, when he reviewed HP. There is a procedure called a Z-flap(?) meant to hide a scar by cutting a Z shape in the skin and moving the two triangular flaps around to disguise the scar. It was cool to me.

Dumbledore does teach Harry about what Tom Riddle was like back in school: teaching him about his true enemy which is how Harry can figure out how Tom got the Diadem & where he hid it after seeing Tom do the same thing when he took the Locket & Cup from Hepzibah Smith. Going back to Peter Pettigrew: Harry stopping Lupin & Sirius from murdering Pettigrew & sparing him gives Pettigrew a debt for Harry & Wormtail accepts this debt by trying to persuade or begging Voldemort to not use Harry’s blood for the ritual potion that he uses in the graveyard to rise back to full power

Good question. My thoughts would be something in the middle; jinxing the concept of DADA teaching. So you take in mind everything that you think of when you think about DADA teaching, and you take in mind Hogwarts, and then lay the jinx on that. And then it hangs around in the castle like energetic cobwebs

Dumbledore reminds me if high school physics teacher. I didn’t learn a lot of physics, but i learned a lot of wisdom and life lessons. He was a great guy and cared about the students, listened to our concerns and gave good advice. I mark it as the second most important class i took in school after Band, In which i learned the importance of hard work and practice.

Day 6 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry is dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.

My theory is that the trials were there for Harry to learn, and to keep Voldemort preoccupied. Dumbledore new if Voldemort only saw the mirror, he would eventually figure it out. By putting all that stuff before the mirror, logic would dictate that the stone was there(physically) at the end, similar to Voldemort's locket horcrux. Dumbledore new how Voldemort operated even back then, and so the obstacles in a way is just a little "theater" to satisfy the Voldemort way of thinking on how to protect a very important magical item.

I liked that Dumbledore was gradually revealed to a flawed man that used his own mistakes to better guide the following generations instead of enforcing his ideals on them like many other characters in the series tried to do. Which should be standard operating procedure, really.

my biggest problem is Dumbledore may have taught Harry about the horcruxes and showed him enough so that he could discover WHERE they are, but he really didn't teach Harry how to actually OBTAIN them. I mean look at the 2 horcruxes Dumbledore got, the ring which basically killed him and the locket (he didn't know it was fake) which Harry didn't actually do anything for. remember it was Dumbledore who found the entrance to the cave, it was Dumbledore who found the boat (he even straight up tells Harry the only reason they can both get in is because Harry is weak) and it was Dumbledore who fought off the inferi when Harry couldn't, even AFTER drinking the potion and being basically dead already. It seems to me that Harry was just really lucky that the only horcruxes he needed to find weren't really defended by anything. imagine if hypothetically Dumbledore wasn't with Harry when looking for the locket, I truly believe Harry and his friends would not have made it out of the cave alive, heck they probably wouldn't even find out how to enter in the first place, they simply didn't have the magical ability or know how to do it.

The magic that witches and wizards use is all about manipulating the material world. The deeper magic comes from the source - love, life, innocence. They aren't sorcerers so it remains a mystery for the most part, though I think Dumbledore understood the concept of knowing what you don't know and appreciated the deeper magic he would never control.

I would say Dumbledore’s teaching starts when he drops Harry off at the Dursleys. He even says to Mcgonagall that it will be better for Harry to grow up not knowing he’s famous.
